Title: People you thought were dead but were alive but who are now dead
Post by: AndrewT on March 19, 2015, 01:44:33 PM
Shaw Taylor died on Monday

http://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2015/mar/18/shaw-taylor

When I saw the link on the Guardian website I thought it was an old one that had been bumped up, because I was sure he dies ages ago  but, not he hadn't. But he has now.

In an odd piece of time shenanigans his obituary in the Guardian was written by a guy who died two weeks before he did.

Accidentally clicked on while looking for aerobics oz style. And there he was!

Was he ill? I could google but that's cheating.

Fit as a fiddle, and never been ill as far as I am aware.

You confusing him with someone from a lesser sport? Football, maybe?

:)

I really have no idea then why I thought that. Glad he's ok.

Denis Healey is still alive.

Thought he'd died 15+ years ago.

Val Doonican.

As a child I knew all the lyrics of Delaney's Donkey and O'Rafferty's Motor Car.
Prime time TV star was Mr Doonican

'They pushed it, shoved it, oiled and embrocated it'

I think that's how one of those songs go, not sure if it's the car or the donkey though.  :-)
My granny used to sing them to us when we were little, but I've never realised they were 'real' songs that you could buy until just now.
I knew she didn't make them up of course but she had a whole repertoire of funny folk songs and poems that I only ever heard from her.
Thanks for the little blast from the past David.

If I had paid more attention to Val Doonican when I was growing up, I wouldn't have stood there open-mouthed when I entered a quiz in Ireland and was asked "Whose donkey won the half-mile race?"

Denis Healey was another one for me.

Heard Denis on the radio a couple of months before he died.

Was still right on the ball mentally.

Nicholas Parsons is going strong on Just A Minute at 91. Pretty remarkable.

Hugh Scully died today.

And he was only 72!

I thought he was in his 70s when he presented Antiques Roadshow in the 80s and 90s!

An all time great. Basic fairness was close... but we didn't get there.

Now Geoffrey Howe has gone at 88 - someone with a long career that will be primarily remembered for his resignation speech.

Cliff Michelmore definitely fits this category. Thought he had shuffled off years ago.

'Jimmy Perry, creator of one of TV's most popular comedy series, Dad's Army, has died aged 93.

Working with producer David Croft, he was also responsible for It Ain't Half Hot Mum, Hi-de-Hi and You Rang M'Lord?'

Zsa Zsa Gabor

She must have had an amazing will to live, finally checking out at 99 years of age. She collected ex-husbands much the same way as rich middle aged men collect fast cars, not putting many miles on the clock.

She called herself a good housekeeper. Every time she divorced, she kept the house.

Hell of an acting job she did in that episode for a dead person.
