Been living here a year and know the city very well.

What exactly do you want to do/when are you here?

For starters, Darlings as Alex suggested is pretty standard stag do fare.

There's also a decent card room at Showdown, but don't expect high stakes (usually something approaching 50 or 60nl is standard throughout the city). Poker in Prague is ok, but seriously, you'll have better games in many other places. If you reallllllly want to play its possible, but there are 1000 things I'd rather do on a limited time budget. Here are some:

1. Eat at Sansho, Hibernia or za za zu. Not sure I've spelled the last one write.
2. Drink at Zlý Časy ('bad times') for unusual and 'non-standard' beers.
3. Have 'pivo z tanku' (beer from the tap at anyone of the 'Lokal' pubs in town. The best 'standard' pint of Urquell you'll get anywhere in the city. Wash it down with some pork knuckle and a shot of Beché or Slivo.
4. Go shoot some guns
5. Climb the TV tower.
6. Drink beer and have a kebab in Letna Beer Garden for the best views of the city before stumbling along to secret open air EDM parties near the Metronome.
7. Žižkov. Simply a great part of town with hundreds of dirty pubs.
8. Cocktails you want? Dirty Dog, Deja Vu and Hemmingways are the best spots in town.
9. If summer, get your energy back at Naplavka, žluté lázně or Containall.
10. Party at night at 1 of 2838383838 decent clubs (tell me what music, I'll recommend). Harley's and Zlaty Strom are good places to start.

That should do for starters.

Oh and if you're at all interested in the cultural stuff to do:

1. Castle
2. Vyserrad
3. Do a free walking tour, city is amazing.
4. Mini-Eiffel tour and funicular railway to Petrin Hill.
5. Old town square (don't eat or drink here unless you like paying 3x the price)
6. Jewish Quarter

Fantastic. Will report back.

Zizkov sounds appealing. Tell me more.

I'm a bit biased towards Žižkov because I live here, but it really excellent. It's a gritty, diverse neighbourhood which in the last years is becoming gentrified (like, eg Charlottenburg in Berlin) - there's a good mix of expats and locals who are all proudly part of the 'Free Republic of Žižkov'. In general, the vibe is very much anti-conformist and free thinking and the variety of drinking dens and other attractions is incredible. I don't think there's another district in any European Capital where you can pop into the pub and be greeted by two wonderful mountain lions who have taken over the beer garden out back. Welcome to Žižkov.

Here's a decent overview (mostly still current!) from the Grauniad from last year.

Small bone to pick: whilst there were certainly TV antenna designed to block West German TV, these were all outside Prague, and certainly not in the 'workers' central' of Žizkov!

Basically Prague is divided into districts with Prague 1 being 'the centre' - Žižkov is Prague 3, so it's not very far (two or three stops by Tram or Metro, generally) to the centre of town. A little excursion here needn't take you too far away but you can definitely spend a day exploring.

Some ideas from one of the big expat guidebooks:

Best bar we went to was a rock bar called Harleys, not far from Wenceslas square. Barmen didn't just open your bottles, they put on a show and were superb. Plenty ACDC, Metalica, Black Sabbath. Some lovely boilers. Can't wack it.

This club has a nice good value hotel in its building and is right next to buses and tubes (3/4 stops to touristy stuff) There are loads of bars and shops within 5 minutes walk and the club is 24/7. Cash games every night. http://www.cardcasinoprague.cz/

Can't go wrong with that list above, will check out a couple of the bars on that list myself, just add strip clubs if required. Really love Žižkov and thought about moving there. Bukowski's Bar is my favourite for cocktails and grungy ambience. Loads of interesting bars around there though.

I would also highly recommended Letna beergarden for a great view of the city.

Card Casino has the pokerz. It is on the other side of the river, but next to tram stops and metro stop. It is smoky and I had a couple of the worst floor rulings of all time there but you'll get a game for sure and the Czech Poker Tour happens there about once a month. Kings Casino in the south part of the city is another place to play, but I don't know how much action they have there outside of festivals.

Have fun!

Love Bukowskis, prefer Dirty Dog now it's moved. Genuinely won't get a better cocktail I think.
