Title: Creosote
Post by: tikay on September 14, 2015, 05:31:02 PM

I was surprised to hear from a reliable source - the top rate Chris Evans Breakfast Show - that creosote has been banned from sale in the UK.

Surely not?

Creosote is part of our life, it has that awesome smell, & is so easy to apply.

Who did not enjoy creosoting a fence?

Presumably, we now have to buy a branded alternative at x times the cost?

Looks like it has been banned for a dozen years.

The creosote council even had to disband - a clear loss to the world of quangos.

You are kidding me? - there is or was a Creosote Council?

Oh, wait - that was the International Creosote Council.

Here's the UK version.

Ahh, thanks.

Why can't regular people buy it, but Tradesmen can?

Notice: In July 2003, it became an offence for the general public to purchase and apply Coal Tar Creosote. However, the product is still available for sale to trades-people. This means the traditional user such as the agricultural community, builders, etc. are still able to purchase Coal Tar Creosote,
providing they do not resell to the general householder.
It is the responsibility of the purchaser to ensure that only genuine trade’s people/professional users are supplied.
