Title: Fairway Wedge - New golf tips site
Post by: rinswun on October 20, 2015, 06:23:50 PM
Hi folks,

Tighty and Tikay have ok'd this but apologies in advance for the spam. Jamie Burland and I have set up a golf tipping site, providing free tips on the weekly PGA Tour events. We had a near miss with Brendan Steele last week but are back for more at this week's Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.

If you're interested, please take a look at the link below. Any and all feedback will be received constructively and hopefully we can guide people in the direction of a few winners.

http://www.fairwaywedge.com

Cheers!

Had a look at the site last night, very slick and professional.

We will try to support you as much as we can, just as we have done, and will continue to, with BE, though they are different business models.

You ran a bit bad last week but stil turned a profit, fingers crossed for a repeat this weekend.

The very best of luck with this venture.

PS - don't abandon Fred, please, we still need you.

Close but no cigar with Bohn this week. Finished in a 6 way tie for 2nd, returning 14.67 points resulting in a 6.33 point loss on the week. 2nd consecutive week with one of ours one shot shy.

Koepka had a nightmare as our headline tip.

CIMB Classic preview will be up tomorrow evening.

Hell of a round by Scott Piercy this morning, 3 shots in front.

6 birdies in 7 going through the turn, very good golf

Not half! Didn't have him pegged to go particularly well here. Funny as he was well backed last week given that he's a Las Vegas local and has great course form at Summerlin. Goes half way round the world and finds a comfort zone!

Long way to go, though sadly Berger looks a busted flush already having taken a 9 on the relatively straight forward par 5 5th.

No good this week. Particularly galling as we wrote up Thomas and replaced him with Berger due to the price. I guess the bookies knew. Onwards and upwards this week though with two chances to win - the HSBC Champions and Sanderson Farms Championship.

One good thing to come out of this tournament was this from John Peterson:

A couple of frustrating near misses last week with Kizzire leading going into the final round, and Grace blowing a great opportunity with a bad round three.

Onwards and upwards this week though at the OHL Classic. After all the first time winners, we're turning to some old hands to buck the trend.

Good shout on Kizzire, but wasn't Castro leading by 4?

Castro led by 4 after 36 holes but shot 3 over in the third round to fall behind. To be honest, the tournament was a bit of a nightmare due to the weather. We backed Wilcox and he withdrew as he couldn't be bothered to wait around for the rain to stop. Hardly the most professional of moves. Seemed like Streelman mailed it in after the rain break too.

That is true, I think its two of six this far this season and those two were co leaders at 54 holes. No outright leader has sealed the deal. Nice to see G-Mac pick up a win yesterday, nicer if we'd backed him mind.

In terms of the DP World Tour Championships, I've backed Stenson, Poulter and Olesen. Yet to throw up a shock winner - queue 400/1 outsider pinging in!

RSM Classic preview to follow today once prices are up.

Thanks! Strange tournament as Charl played some truly awful golf over the weekend but never looked like being headed. Nice to get one over the line pre Christmas regardless and what an incredible record he has at Leopard Creek. Hopefully get a couple more through this week and end this part of the season in profit.

We've got a few bits and pieces in the pipeline for the new year so watch this space...

Do you think that 1/5 odds 1-2-3-4 in the HeroWC is worth betting EW?

Title: Re: Fairway Wedge - New golf tips site
Post by: rinswun on November 30, 2015, 11:22:33 PM
That's a good question and one which I considered prior to the recommends. From a pure maths perspective, the 1/5 probably makes it -ev, however I think there are at least 7 of the field we can discount due to form, injury or a game that won't translate imo - Walker, Horschel, Lahiri, Haas, Kirk, Kuchar, Holmes. I also think Spieth is gettable as the favourite as I'm not convinced he's in peak form, as he was this time last year. If he was, he wins the recent Aussie Open at a canter.

In the end I felt that getting four places with in what I've made an 11 runner field made taking the 1/5 acceptable.

Nedbank Golf Challenge

Think there are better odds in the place only markets than the EW terms with some players in this tournament, so win/place might be a better route if you think that the book mistake is to offer 4 places.

This.  Would be amazed if many players are better value ew at 1/5 1234 than seperate win and place markets in an 18 runner event.

Cheers guys, appreciate the feedback and it's an intersting discussion and learning opportunity. At this point, the place market on BF is really thin and the bookies place only market is inline with the win price at 1/5. It's something i'll definitely keep in mind though.

I am just going on horse races when on course layers go 1/5 1234 in an 18 runner hcap which this golf event effectively is.  There is rarely any value betting 1/5 1234.

Yeh, that's not ideal and is quite ironic as when we picked Rory pre-Christmas, he also announced he was ill the following day.
On the plus side, last time Day pulled out of a pro-am pre-tournament, he went on to win by 6 shots! I have noted the price hasn't changed based on this news. Beware the injured golfer.

Liking the fact you opposed Rory.

He has never defended a title iirc....must enjoy the defending champ hospitality too much???

Liking Colsearts as a first round leader too, as I think he has top 5 starts in 2 of the last 3 or 4 in this event, from my notes. He started well last week too.

And finally liking JB in the States. Played deceptively well last week and the sort to revel in the mental atmosphere you get here. Bubba a solid fav, for similar reasons and the fact he hossed up in his last tourny, and a good record here.

Thanks Adz. Obv Rory a solid favourite given his course form  but, as you say, has never defended a title which is probably an indication that he only really tends to play in really decent fields more than anything else. If you look at the field Grace had to beat last week for example, was a much easier task to go back to back. I just think he's a skinny price for someone who doesn't seem to have his putting in order at this stage of the year. That said, if his putting is on he probably wins by 5.

Love the Phoenix Open. JB and Bubba both seem the type of characters to relish it. Haven't backed him outright as I think he has a tendency to lose concentration but have had a small dabble on Harold Varner FRL. Should relish the atmosphere, played well in the desert previously and has the length to go low.

Saw a documentary on Varner a couple of weeks ago. That boy sure puts the hours in, that's for sure. Will have a little dabble.

Not the best way to start the day. Soo Min Lee trades at 1.10 and leads by three with five to play but double bogeys twice in final three holes to blow it. Add this one to the list of cross bars hit. Hugely frustrating.

Thanks. Hopefully Bubba seals the deal this evening to soften the blow.

I've been punting golf for too long now to get too annoyed about individual results, and have certainly had my fair share of positive variance (Brandt Snedeker's 2012 Farmers Insurance win sticks in the mind), but the run this season has been testing so many promising positions gone awry and guys winning that I fancied but were too short against my tissue. Hopefully the variance begins to level off soon!

Thanks for your picks. I will be playing draft kings again this week too...

General question. For an 80/1 shot for example for this, which each way terms would you prefer 1/5 odds 7 places or 1/4 odds 6 places. Or even how about slightly longer odds 100/1 but only 5 places 1/4 odds?

Quite like Stenners and Piercy, who both seem to be appearing on leaderboards so far this year.

Piercy is starting well and I couldnt resist a little dabble on first round leader(he may even have lead here last year iirc?). Can pay for the weekend if they get a top 5 opening round.

You are correct Adz, excellent memory! Went 63-74-66-74 I think. Wins if he turns though 74s into 71s. Lead after 18 holes twice already, wouldn't put you off that's for sure.

Another great set of picks and once again desperately unlucky. Stenson might one day learn how to close a comp, instead of settling for 2nd and 3rds :|

Title: Re: Fairway Wedge - New golf tips site
Post by: rinswun on April 04, 2016, 01:22:15 PM
I couldn't see Herman holding on there but fair play to him. He's certainly got some bottle. Certainly more so than Jamie Lovemark who gets a hugely squiggle next to his name after another 4th round horror. Stenson missed too many shorties in his first two rounds. Should really have won by five. Another frustrating near miss.

Anyways, it's Masters week! Plenty of markets to look at!

Gross finish. Sneds and Rose both bogies the last two to miss out on a place by a shot, with Day bog eying the last to also miss out by a stroke. At least Grillo and DeChambeau obliged.

Was a pretty good result for the bookies at Augusta, I've got to say. UL guys.

Following golf a lot this season as I play draft kings, so I always look forward for your picks and analysis.

My pick this week is Kisner (I got 28-1 6 places each way) - he has nice results at similar courses and didn't do too badly at Augusta and Snedeker (I got 22-1 6 places ew) - second best player in the field imo and should be clear second favourte. Maybe the bet is just for the win on Day at 6-1? It is boring just betting on the favourite though... :)

I'm also interested in Charley Hoffman, what's your opinion about him this week?

Luke Donald has amazing form on this course and is available at 55-1. Likewise McDowell at 50s. Both seems pretty out of form though, Donald moreso than G-Mac I guess? Agree that Casey seems a bit too short (overreaction to his Masters result?)

For draftkings I think I will be including a lot of Cink who is very cheap and seems like something of a course specialist.

Looking forward to seeing your picks!

Yeh, Augusta ended up being frustrating. We made profit but could have had a really nice week instead of a meh week. Just annoying not to be able to clean up with those incredible place terms.

Regarding this week, I think Day's natural talent will see him top 10 but the layout doesn't really suit his game brilliantly as he can be a bit loose off the tee. Sneds falls into the same bracket but is obviously 3x bigger in the betting and a former winner so I'd much rather back him.

This is certainly a horses for courses type track with a number of multiple winner and players with consistent top 10s. Given their form I'd rather play Donald and G-Mac on DraftKings than back them outright as it certainly wouldn't be a shock to see them up there on Sunday but I think their odds are about right.

Charley Hoffman has decent course form but bit too loose off the tee this season and I can't see him winning.

Thanks, I've been forgetting to link the previews here. Will start again this week.

It's certainly been a frustrating year. Had three beat at 1.15 or shorter and a number of other bad breaks that in another year could easily have seen us in a really profitable situation. Still, gotta take the rough with the smooth over the long term and I'm sure it'll level off soon.

The above average number of absolute skinners hasn't helped either. Taylor, Herman, Stuard and Hahn were all 500/1 shots and pretty much unbackable for various reasons!

Lads, are you looking to post for the PGA this week?

Unfortunately the elements of audit season at work and both of us having kids under 8 months is taking its toll. For the last couple of weeks and this, we've been putting our picks on Twitter but not writing them up. Shame as we're not counting these against our results and last week we backed Vegas at 125 and Sneds at 28s who placed.

This week we're considering it a ball strikers paradise and have backed Scotf, Bubba, Hideki and Kevin Chappell. Would love to have backed DJ but just a bit too short for us.

2016 has certainly been one of those years but that Horschel putt really took the biscuit! To go 0/6 in playoffs - all on pre tournament picks - in a sport as volatile as golf is really tough to take! Hopefully we'll run a little less salty in 2017!

How he completely missed the cup from there was quite incredible.

Any fancies for SBS TOC's this week - well starting in a few hours in Hawaii?

Can't get on your website either btw.

We ended up discontinuing the site as we both became fathers for the first time last year and the additional demands made doing a write up, publishing and updating the associated pages untenable. However, I still put my selections up on Twitter and had a decent enough start to the new season before the break.

I think Spieth wins most likely this week but missed the early prices and decided not to have a bet in the end. Will be back for the Sony Open.

Perfectly understandable given the family situations but I'll miss those excellent write-ups.

I've had a small dabble on Patrick Reed who is apparently unwell, but you know what they say about injured golfers..

Thanks for the kind words. At some point in the future, I might look to get it set up again as I enjoy doing it and am still studying each tournament but it's not likely to happen this year. For now we'll just hope for a profitable year of twitter tips.

Good luck to Reed! Seems the sort to play well when ill/injured just to prove a point. Comedy that he's playing with Jason Day today who is the biggest hypercondriac in sport!
