The 2016 Sky Poker UK Poker Championships at Dusk Till Dawn

[LEEDS, United Kingdom – 13th November 2015] ¬– Sky Poker has announced the third Sky Poker UK Poker Championships to take place from 24th-29th February 2016. The event, with events guaranteed at over £1.3m total, will once again be hosted by Dusk Till Dawn in Nottingham with the highlight of the series set to be the £1,0000,000 Guaranteed UK Poker Championship Main Event.

The Sky Poker UK Poker Championships festival will take place from 24th-29th February 2016 at Dusk Till Dawn. The £1,000 buy-in Championships Main Event will feature three Day One flights across three starting days, with next day re-entry available on the first two days. The Sky Poker UKPC Champion will be crowned on Day 3, Monday 29th February.

The Sky Poker UK Poker Championships Main Event is the highlight of a schedule that includes a £100,000 Guaranteed High Roller tournament, £100,000 Guaranteed Eight- Max and Six-Max events and a £25,000 Guaranteed Eight-Max Turbo event on the final day of the festival. The Main Event offers a £1,000,000 prize pool.

“After the success of the Sky Poker UK Poker Championships in 2014 and 2015, we are delighted to announce the 2016 renewal of the UK Poker Championships festival” said Richard Milner, Head of Sky Poker. “With the excellent team and facilities that DTD offer, we are sure it will be a great event. The previous UKPC events have been full of many well-known and high profile favourites from the UK poker scene and we look forward to another successful festival at DTD next February”.

Satellites to the £1,000,000 Sky Poker UKPC Championship Main Event will be available on Skypoker.com from Monday 16th November with regular satellites running from as little as £1.15. There will also be a series of promotions and free-rolls on Skypoker.com throughout the coming months.

I've already won my seat for the main via Sky (thin), so was thinking more about the HR sats tbh. If they don't run any online sats for the HR, do you know if you can combine tickets. i.e. if I won 2 x main event tickets on party could I combine them for a HR seat?

sad day 2 is on a sunday, i think in general having day 2 on saturday going to be a lot better for most people, final on a monday too? whole festival seems good to be shifted back day or two earlier, everybody in Dublin leaves on 20th and then they are stuck with nowhere to go for a while. If you put a 10k on before the 2k it would prob get decent travel from Dublin.

Well we'd really love you to come along, & bring some of Team Crush with you, but the highlighted sentence is incorrect. It definitely will NOT "be better for most people", quite the opposite.

When DTD & myself, on behalf of Sky Poker, put the schedule together, we were mindful that we wanted to make it as accessible as possible for as many players, especially recreationals, as possible. Those of us immersed in poker so much often forget, but for casual/fun/recreational players, however we wish to label them, getting Friday off is quite a pain.

We looked at it this way. For a Saturday Day 2, & a Sunday Final, 100% of the recreational players would need to take a day off work so they could attend Day One on Friday. 100%.

This way, with a Monday Final, (we hope to play down to the Final on Sunday) assuming 1,000 runners (we hope...) & a 9 man final, only 0.9% of the entire field (9 players from 1,000) would need to take Monday off. So that's 991 "days off work" saved. That's a chunky sum of earnings or "holiday allocation".

It may not work, of course, & if not, we'll not repeat it, but these are the decisions we have to make. It was actually Rob's idea, but one which Sky Poker were very happy to try out.

FWIW, Sky Poker have already qualified 89 players, & we are still over 5 weeks away from the Event, & they expect to send circa 200 players in total, which is far in excess of what we have ever achieved before, we are normally at around half that rate on £1,100 events.

PS - Will you be coming along? The grapevine tells me that one of your star turns, Jonathan Gill, qualified for this via a DTD or Party Promo. Happy Days, send a few more, please. ;)

I think this clashes with the Sheffield £220, which is a shame.

Just wondering what happens with Sky and DTD after this festival? Been told after the contract is up, that there will be no more Sky comps at DTD? hope this is incorrect?

"the contract is up"? What does that mean? Each UKPC has a separate Contract. So when this one is complete, on March 1st, the Contract will be up. That's how it has worked for all 5 renewals.

Negotiations for renewal 6, in August/September 2016 commenced 2 months ago & we have already agreed in principle.  19 e-Mails have gone back & forth between Rob & myself in the last 2 weeks alone. We are discussing buy-in, format, & schedule. We have agreed 2 potential dates, but need to see how those dates work with other events. Sky also need to dovetail the satelliting in between their other annual cornerstone events & ensure each has adequate time. (Las Vegas & Punta Cana). We would not want to "clash with a £220 Event", after all.

We expect to conclude negotiations before next Month's UKPC, so that, during the event, we can shake hands on the deal & get a formal contract raised.

I tried to do this last night, everybody else's billionth hand strategy was terrible.  When I suggested somebody at one of my tables might play a bit quicker, he then started to max time bank every hand.  I tried limping in quickly, was slowly 3 bet.  Insta check the flop, another 10 seconds before they did anything.   Was just sat there thinking, just min it, I'll instafold.  People were either unaware or just terrible strategists.

so you sit down at midday on Saturday

You get 50,000 starting chips and blinds start at 50-100

you play 15 levels of 40 minutes each on Saturday, til around midnight, and if you have chips at the end of the day you go through to Sunday

rinse/repeat on the Sunday and if you have chips at the end you'll be close to or in the final and guaranteed a big slug of money

the final is on monday lunchtime

all this may sound like a long time, well yes because its a big buy in championship event with lots of runners so it will take this long to find a winner, much longer than an online comp or a one night local casino comp

you'll need to think about a hotel for the saturday night at least unless you want to decide that during the day

I can't find HR/main structures anywhere online - are they available to post?

Surprised Sky Poker aren't running more satellites online for UKPC this week.

Demand is there, Party still running 20 seats g'teed each night.

It seems odd, but it's a function of the process.

Sky Poker have to send the list of qualifiers across to DTD several days before it starts, so that DTD can enter up all the details on their system, especially as to non Members. That list was required by DTD yesterday, hence the last qualifiers on Sky Poker were Sunday.

We started a lot earlier than DTD, way back in November, so there's been plenty of them.

It's a bit odd this week, as we always have at least one "away" Adventure being qualified for, (UKPC, Punta Cana., Viva Las Vegas) but this week it's a completely blank week. We did have something scheduled to start yesterday, to follow straight on from UKPC, but events outside of our control meant it had to be pushed back a week. Next Monday it is, then.......;)

Yup, that's the sum of it, information transfer.

It's a bit of a shame that we have a blank week this week, as maybe we could have run a few more UKPC satellites if we'd known, but we had something else scheduled, & it all got delayed at late notice, & too late to continue with UKPC.

There's a bit of a backstory to the delay, which I'll expand upon in a day or two.

Appreciate the good wishes, thank you. I'm as nervous as hell, & stressed to bits. Standard. Once it starts, everything will be fine. There'll be a blonde Live Update, too, with Tighty in the chair, fingers crossed.

The amount of behind the scenes detail that goes into these things is quite extraordinary, & might make an interesting blog, though I doubt it interests others. I bet well over 1,000 e-mails about UKPC have crossed my desk.

Such humility is touching, but misplaced. I'd love you to be there.

UKPC Saturday- 12pm & 4pm Day 1s {please read below}

I have just finished a meeting with Simon and the DTD Team regarding Saturday's UKPC schedule. They are faced with the following logistical problem:

400 + qualifiers have selected to play Saturday Day 1 which uses 45 tables out of the 50 available dealing 9 handed, because of the deep structure by the end of late reg only 10% of these players will have been eliminated, so the maximum players that can be seated during late reg is less than 100. We normally get 250-300 DBIs on the last Day 1 for UKPCs, so we need to deal to 650-700 tomorrow.

Simon and the DTD Team's answer to this problem is to cram the Club with 15 extra tables and deal the event 10 handed and extend late registration by 4 levels, which means that they would be able to seat up to 600 players and another 100 during late reg.

I have personally overruled everyone. I do not want any players (qualifiers or DBIs) queuing for hours, being cramped and being forced to enter into a premium event with < 50BBs. So I have instructed the following;

Day 1 12PM - all Sky qualifiers are in from the start and DTD qualifiers have first option to enter with no waiting. DBI players have the option to wait for seats in the 12pm Day 1 OR can enter the 4pm Flight and start with the same stack as the 12pm players which is much fairer. If any qualifiers wish to move to 4pm, please contact Nicola Veitch on Facebook.

Day 1 4PM - This will late reg till 8.40pm and finish at 3am, Day 2 starts Sunday 1pm, so players have a 10 hour turnaround.

* The 8-Max will now move to a 7pm start, 9 levels played which will finish at 1:40am for a 2pm Day 2 start on Sunday.

This is the first time we have offered a Saturday Day 1 so we now know that 90% of qualifiers will choose Saturday going forward and can plan accordingly, I would rather the DTD Team work harder tomorrow so the place isn't chaos and uncomfortable for players - yes we have a big club - but 65 tables with no marquee is way too much to deal a premium event at the club, and 10 handed is not a product that we should be offering, buying in at < 50BB because there are not seats avaliable not acceptable.

Can I ask every player that knows me to do me a favour if they can and choose to play the 4pm flight, can I also ask players who are re-entering from previous flights to choose the 4pm flight, there are times when I need the players to help me out, if we all work together we will have a comfortable day for the players and the staff. Anyone that lives 2-3 hours away can now start off a bit later - 450 at 12pm and 250 at 4pm flight will be a smooth day for everyone.
