I am in for whatever, hope to see a return of the £100 league.  Enjoyed it a lot due to the high standard last year despite donating.  It was also very well run by the admin on here.

I don't know if it is just me but I have to admit even after giving it a few days I do not like the new FPL website as much as the previous incarnation.  I prefer websites to have a normal site and an app, not a fan of this whole "mobile friendly" responsive website thing when your using a full blown laptop.

Biggest downside of new website is you can't see your whole team on the same page

I am thinking of the following leagues for this season:


Free league (open to all) there may be added money for the winner if we can get that sponsored by the winner(s) from last season

£10 Classic league (fun sweat for those that aren't as serious but want a bit of interest)

£30 Classic league (a good level for most parties on here)

£100 Classic league (for the more serious player or proper punter)

£20 Head to Head league (open to all)

£15 Last Man Standing (open to all). This will be played as a classic league format with the lowest score each week dropping out. Hopefully we get at least 38 entries for this. If we get over 38 there will be a few weeks in the early season where more than just the lowest drop out (a kind of double eviction).

As well as the classic free league, you can enter just the one paid classic league from the 10, 30 and 100 levels.

You can enter both the H2H and the LMS.

Let me know your thoughts, objections etc and i will start setting up.

As far as opening up the £100 league I can say that last year it was required to get a reasonable number of entrants and as a result the standard was extremely high.  I liked that however as I am a masochist!  Perhaps an idea would be to make it mostly  blondes only but also allow anyone who played it last year to play again.  I think that the final call on that should be yours and Dazzler's, Junior Senior.

Not sure why you would limit to only 1 classic cash league but be allowed in the 2 luckbox leagues?

I would play 2 classics but neither LMS or H2H but I'll only end up in 1 league now whilst others will be in 3.

I'm with Stevie here, not quite sure of the reasoning.

It's to ensure a spread of winners.
If you can enter all the leagues, 1 player can dominate nearly all the prize money across all leagues, which happened 2 years ago when I won most of the money.
This way, the disadvantage is you'll end up with smaller prize pools (as player pools are restricted) but you'll achieve a greater spread of prizes and winners.
It should keep more people interested for longer. Similarly with the cups later in the season. Trying to keep the game fun for as many people for as long as possible.
It's wealth equality. You're not in favour of wealth inequality, are you Ralph? :)

As Dazzler said. If we let everyone enter all leagues then the same people win. Pick your level and try to win it.
Hopefully it keeps it interesting all season.
Side bets are not forbidden btw.

I could set up more leagues, maybe a £20, a £50 and a £200? And let people enter 2 but then it dilutes the league numbers and the admin is increased. It takes a lot of admin as it is.

As for supporting wealth inequality I feel compelled to mention my work on a kibbutz for many months for no pay in my youth. :)

Only query with only being in 1 classic league is it means less cup comps - enjoyed being in those for the additional sweats last year despite falling short in them all. Not sure if there's any way around this? We didn't actually have a cup in the £100 league either. Possible to run extra cups for each league? More admin :/

Guess it all dilutes the prize pool for the classics too so will leave it up to you guys but personally my vote would be to keep with last year's formula where anyone can enter the £100 as a standalone effective nonblonde league & for the blonde members only - max 2 classic league entries allowed. Loads of unique winners last year and personally didn't see anyone complaining that Gazza was dominating them all? Anyway - your call of course.

As mentioned last year, as one of the managers with decent returns, happy to also lump some back in for this year's added pot. Put me down for an extra £100 spread however you deem fit.

Finally, As also mentioned In last year's thread, please take this as comfirmation I will also fund a £50 spot prize at the end of the season for the highest single 'Gameweek Rank' (GR) of any team in any of the leagues (inc free/brags league) for an additional side game for us all where the lead could potentially change hands every week.

The lads do a great job running these and I also think that they got the balance just right last year, there were multiple winners even with the crossover of winners in the classic leagues.
The classic leagues themselves are the easiest to run in terms of admin as they run themselves,its the cups that take the most maintenance but these are good fun.

Personally I'm not a fan of the H2H league as I find it a distraction from the classic leagues but that's just personal preference I understand that others enjoy them and they can give you an interest even if your team isn't doing well overall but I think we have that covered off with the cups.

As regards the highest GW rank prize, you mean the highest RANKING in a GW as opposed to the highest individual SCORE in a GW (as these are likely to be two different winners)?

Regarding cups, I was thinking we could create a 'cups package', separate to the leagues so they won't dilute those prizepools. This would be open to all, as some people like the cups but some may not..
Say the entry is £30. You get entered into an FA Cup, a League Cup and a Champions League. They will run on the same basis as they did last year.

I was also thinking of a 'Tandem League'. Again, say £20 and open to all.
Say 40 people enter, everyone gets drawn out in an open draw to play with one other person as their tandem. Their combined score is their total score and at the end of the season, the highest combined score wins the league, 2nd highest is 2nd, etc, etc.
You could have people choosing their own tandem but then the best players will play with the best players and it won't be very competitive. This way, stronger players may advise the weaker players and it hopefully raises all boats.

Thoughts?
Maybe this is too much, we could have about 10 different comps at this rate!

Somewhat more organized than a hippie commune and without the dope which is strictly taboo, but totally self-supporting. Originally all were farms but some modern ones now have factories or guest-houses etc. to supplement the agriculture which usually include cash-crops of expensive fruit such as mangoes or avocados. These often have armed guards around the clock near harvest-time.

Most if not all kibbutzim have a number of "volunteers" usually aged between 18/30 from all over; Aussies, Scandies, Brits, Irish, Dutch, you name it, who live and work there temporarily usually just for a few months for room, board, and a bit of spending money. There are usually 20/50 volunteers on one kibbutz who are normally situated there own little area 2 per room and working 4/6 hours gentle work per day and lots of craic in the evenings especially when the balance is right.

On the downside work can begin at 4/5am but you soon get used to that as the working day is over by noon.

Yes Ranking not score. Score would be dominated by the double gameweeks whereas highest GR could feasibly be won in any of the gameweeks right down to gw38 so think it'll be more fun to watch the lead change as the season progresses. Also believe it to be in the same regard in terms of prestige as highest gw score as although that is a feat, It basically comes down to your planning for double game weeks and a touch more luck imo. Happy to make it £40/£10 or £35/£15 actually for 1st and 2nd gw rank as also promotes spreading the winnings. Will let you guys decide that mix of the £50 when final details released.

Thanks a mill for running again guys. I personally don't like H2H leagues but it's worth the £20 for the chance of a sweat come the business on of the season.

I've done my usual thing of filling my team full off EPL-unproven 'bargains' who will probably have to be transferred out at the speed of lightening.

Loving the spot prize idea but is there a danger we could get people who are out of contention giving this their only focus in the last few weeks and making 15 transfers to try and win it?  I think we would have to ensure all points hits are deducted from the gw score. Great idea if its done like that.

But I like it for just that reason!
If people are out of contention, they give up. Now there is a reason not to. You can have a chance every week to snag the £50 on offer. The aim is to keep people interested till the end and I think it's a cracking idea.

I hadn't really considered that element. Not sure many people will chase transfers especially if in other work/friend leagues too etc. I'd like to hope honour will prevail lol. 6. £20 Last Man Standing.
Open to all comers. As it says. The lowest scoring player in the league is eliminated every week until you have the last man standing.
7. £100 Classic
Open to all comers. I think we had 10 runners last year and that was with a couple of outsiders. It needs to be open to get the numbers.

There will be extra cash added with RobM adding £150 and I'll probably throw in £50. £50 will be paid to the player that gets the highest 1 week GW ranking. £30 will go to the free league and we'll come up something for the rest.

As regards the Tandem League, we probably already have enough comps so I think we'll leave that for now. We might trial it (a 6 week league) later in the season, when some peoples interest is waning.

Struggling to find the bit where the cups are explained. Anyone got a brief explanation on how they work, just debating if I wanna enter that

If you played last year, you would have been in a cup and they are run the same way.
It's a little bit fluid at the moment as it depends of final numbers. Hopefully we'll get the magic number of 32 runners, which is ideal for cup comps. If we reach that number, the comp will be capped there (or 16 if interest is much lower).

The League Cups will kick us off, maybe in GW4. All 32 teams will be drawn against each other by our independent adjudicator MereNovice and teams will progress via a H2H knockout format. The Cup will progress weekly until we have a winner. £5 of each players £30 entry fee will go towards the prize pool.

Then the FA Cup will start, maybe around GW12. It will work in the same way as the League Cup and progress in a knockout H2H format until we have a winner. £10 of each players £30 entry fee will go towards the prizepool.

Then the Champions League will start, maybe around GW20. All entrants will be drawn out into 4 team groups. You will play 6 round robin games against each of your opponents with the top 2 qualifying for the last 16. Then there would be 2 leg ties played in a H2H format to get an eventual winner. £15 of each players £30 entry fee will go towards the prize fund.
If we end up with less than 32 runners, byes will be introduced on a random basis to fill the gaps. If you are drawn against a 'bye' you progress to the next round.

I hope that explains it? But feel free to ask for clarification on any point.

I literally have no time for online poker so don;t want money in there at the moment. I didn;t even have the stars software downloaded on my laptop its been that long!!  it was fine last year as I just withdrew all the money out but it is not as easy now with Stars being awkward.

If you were just entering the £10 league (which I'm not in) we'd do the same. We've deliberately set up the league entry rules to protect players from sharks if people wish it.

Just so people know, the Cups package won't start in GW1. In total there will be only 22 GWs play, 5 GWs in the League Cup, 5 GWs in the FA Cup and 12 GWs in the Champions League.
So the entry for that comp might extend beyond the 1st GW. Hopefully not as we are approaching the magic 32 number (at which it will be capped). We will probably start the cups around GW5.

Similarly the LMS might not start in GW1 either unless we get 37+ entries (currently 32).

All prize payouts will be posted when final monies come in. Greg wants around 20% paid, I'd favour a little flatter (you see Pleno, I want more people winning! :)) but it'll be something around that figure.

I am logging off at 10pm and going to bed. I am up early and out all day and off line so cannot respond to posts or PM's. I have locked in my team and no further changes are being made.

If you haven't got yourself sorted with sending payments and getting league codes by 10pm tonight then you will have to PM TheDazzler for questions / codes etc. He has all of the codes and will be around to keep things afloat.

I believe that the League forums that were in the game last year but are currently absent this year will be reintroduced soon.
When they are, all the payouts and details for each individual league will be posted in the forum of the league in question.
MereNovice has very kindly agreed to help us in the Cups comp and will be administering all cup draws. He is in the Cups 'league' but only for admin purposes. He is entirely independent and above reproach!

When we've got all the money together we'll decide payouts but just to say that the £50 prize for highest GW rank will be open to all leagues.
The other £150 overlay will be confined to Blonde only leagues (Blonde Free, Blonde £10, Blonde £50).

The last time this happened, where the site crashed and people couldn't log on for the last couple of hours before launch in 2010(?), everyone got a free wildcard for GW2.

Yeah sorry, I was looking at the 2+2 LMS I'm in that had 32. We've got 24, so it'll be a while before this starts. Entries still open though!

Any results from the club championship?

i shot 71 (1 under par and 6 under the CSS) in the morning which was 5 clear of the pack. I then experienced middle-age fatigue and the young flat-bellied full-time amateur starlets began to close the gap.  I ended up shooting 76 in the afternoon for a 147 total.  One of the previous aforementioned superstars shot 70 in the afternoon to go with his morning 77 to force an 18-hole stroke-play play off at a later date (as per US Open rules).

I'll keep you posted.

p.s my handicap is now +3 which no longer makes me value in am-am team events!!

my play off opponent is a new member from Derbyshire - he plays off +2 Sam Claypole.  He hits it miles!! i'll just have to get my shots in first and put him under pressure then outputt him!

The added money from Gazza and RobM will be distributed across these leagues.  A small prize taken from that money will be given to the winner of the Blonde Free league, which will be to the highest positioned player in the free league that hasn’t already won a league prize.

There will also be a £50 spot prize donated by RobM for the highest individual ranked player in any 1 gameweek in any of the leagues.  We’ll try and identify who is leading that prize as the season goes on but it would help if people could self-nominate if they have a storming week.  I’d expect that you would need a rank in the top 750 to have a chance at this.

The Last Man Standing League will start in gameweek 16 where 24 players will be taken down to 23 and the weakest link will be ejected from the league, and so on each week until the final 2 will play off in gameweek 38 to be the last man standing.

The H2H will play as a straight matchplay event until the final 3 gameweeks (36-38) when the top 8 will play off in a ¼ final (gw 36), then semi-final in gameweek 37 and a final in gameweek 38.

The cups will start in a few weeks time and The Dazzler will be a long to post about the format in due course.

A record breaking year absolutely smashing the previous years, in terms of prize pool size.  We also have had more individual entries this year than any previous season.  The amount of leagues and variety of game types seems to have really captured interest.

If we get a tie, the League Cup does not have replays so we'll go to a 'penalty shootout' tie break. The tie break will be the same as the ingame FPL Cup tiebreak.
If a cup match is drawn, then the following tie-breaks will be applied until a winner is found:
1.Most goals scored in the Gameweek
2.Fewest goals conceded in the Gameweek
3.Virtual coin toss

It was a remarkable feat by Greg to get even more money into the pot this year as prize pools in FPL cash leagues right across the Net are down this year. 2+2 has less than half than what they had last year, I think.

What a nice surprise. Looked at the wrong league yesterday and mistakenly thought it was the league cup games. Squeezed through by a solitary point. Having a shocker this year. Team is worth 102.1 mil but can't get the right players on the pitch. Left over 60 points on the bench in the last three weeks!

Had Capoue from the start and on the bench every week, not ideal.

Had to use my WC just now. I don't normally like using it this early in the season but my squad needed a huge overhaul as I had 4 players that weren't playing (transferred, suspended, injured or dropped) and most of the others were out of form.

It is a fixed draw and the winner of tie 1 will play the winner of tie 2, the winner of tie 3 will play the winner of tie 4, etc, etc. all the way through to the final.
It'll be H2H knockout and there will be 6 GWs play. The semi finals will be 2 leg affairs.
All -4 hits in a GW will be deducted from your Cup score in that GW. This applies to all cup competitions.
If at any point a GW has less than 6 matches (due to postponements), the Cup GW will be declared void and the fixtures will move to the following week.

If we get a drawn tie, the League Cup does not have replays so we'll go to a 'penalty shootout' tie break. The tie break will be the same as the ingame FPL Cup tiebreak.

I think we have a couple of dead teams already in the league so maybe it will be one of them or maybe we will have a surprise weak link. With Vardy suddenly finding some form we could see a dead team resurgence

All 31 teams will be drawn into 8 groups of 4 (with one 'bye') and will play 2 round robin matches against each other for a total of 6 matches. Teams will receive 3pts for a win, 1pt for a draw.

Teams will be seeded according to their positions in the league at the time of the draw.

The top 8 in the league will all be 1st seeds, teams positioned 9th-16th will be 2nd seeds, teams positioned 17th-24th will be 3rd seeds and teams positioned 25th-32nd (32nd will be a 'bye') will be 4th seeds.

The top 2 in each group will qualify for the last 16 where 2 leg matches will be played until the final.

I guess you're referring to the DRC which could be problematic! But we're planning (and have already paid for) a couple of treks there. One up a volcano with a lava lake which are sleeping overnight at and then a trek to see the wild gorillas. The DRC has been relatively stable for the last while but as you probably know, it could kick off badly in the next week.

I wish you had signed up Ralph and we'd have had the magic 32. As it was was, we had to give one bye in each of the cup competitions and have 1 group of 3 players in the Champions League.
Remarkably Nicholas Wright got both the byes in the cups and is now in the 3 team group in the Champions League for the 3peat!

A mate of mine has had a horrible start. He fielded two Boro defenders but the only one to start was subbed off for the other in the first half, so neither got clean sheet points.

these 2 games in 3 days are tough in FPL though. in prior years wouldn't this have been a single game week?

A little late responding on this one but here's the details so far..

Firstly - Helluva spot Greg! Alex Is indeed leading the way for the £50 highest GR spot prize. This is out of over 1000 rows of gameweek history data I've just gathered into excel from every player from all 7 leagues ITT. Thankfully took less time than I thought :)

The top 10 GR so far are as follows:

Some interesting results so far imo: No duplicate names in the top 10. You have to go down to 14th before the same name appears twice (Damjan Rupnik). 4 out of the top 10 were off to a flier being captured in GW1! Lewis' rank from that week led the way for 12 solid weeks before Brent took the top spot. His sweat unfortunately lasted much less time with Alex jumping into the lead just 3 weeks later.

How long can Alex hold the top spot for? The rank at over 2k does seem beatable. We had a few results in the top 250 last season at the business end of the season iirc so odds are it's still anyone's! Alex will no doubt hope otherwise. Good luck to all for the remainder of the season.

Just as this may come up due to so many groups being so close, we'll be mirroring the actual Champions League and if 2 teams end up on the same points, it'll be their 2 x H2H games that decide who goes through, the GD will merely be an additional tiebreaker.

How comes he got no bonus points?

Bonus points are always recalculated at the end of a match, so that's why the 2 bonus points disappeared after the final whistle.
As for why Costa didn't get any, historically he has been a low scorer of bonus points.

All -4 hits in a GW will be deducted from your Cup score in that GW. This applies to all cup competitions.
If at any point a GW has less than 6 matches (due to postponements), the Cup GW will be declared void and the fixtures will move to the following week. This is likely to happen in GW28 due to FA Cup.

Really appreciate the effort you put in to all the admin on the FPL, but I have to query the fairness of voiding the GWs with fewer than six matches. Lots of us plan effectively by saving up our transfers and WCs in order to field comparatively-strong teams in these postponement-affected GWs.

Maybe these have always been the rules - and I certainly don't expect them to change this time - just wanted to raise this for consideration in the future.

Think this was declared at the outset so will have to hold but certainly a consideration for next season. Take your point.

It is tight this week in the LMS.

4 teams probably still in contention with the others well clear of the likely points line.

Depends largely on whether the following players start and perform

Jesus
Stanislas
Stones
Boruc

The unattended Ghost Ship that is Shiity City could still avoid the cull as whilst first choice keeper Pickford is still injured, 2nd choice Boruc is still to play. Although against Aguero and Jesus he is unlikely to score many points. Although Aguero does like having his penalities saved!

Anyone heard from adamm recently unlike him to be absent

According to facebook he is mostly interested in his new band and is playing gigs etc. I think he has given up on FPL in previous seasons from memory.
