Title: Poker player in McDonalds Prop bet: Price it up for me.....
Post by: TightEnd on May 08, 2017, 05:24:40 PM
Poker Player to eat $1k worth of McDonalds food in 36 hours

A professional poker player has taken up a rather unusual challenge of attempting to eat $1,000 worth of McDonald’s food in 36-hours with wagers topping $200k.

how would you assess his chances from the info given?

– Only $200 can be spent on salads.
– $300 has to be spent on hot food items ($50 of which must be burgers)
– Drinks don’t count
– Cannot remove any items from his orders
– Can add additional foodstuffs to requested items (extra bacon, etc.)
– Must eat everything that comes with the order (except the Happy Meal toy)
– He must eat the food in its original state, no blender
– Puking is ok as long as he doesn’t force the puke or puke repeatedly
– No inflated prices (I.e. Eating in McDonald’s in an airport)

Challenge should obv be puke once and you're done as otherwise how is a valid puke determined?

http://burgerlad.com/2013/01/mcdonalds-menu-prices-uk.html

Based on uk prices above and assuming £ rather than $ i would take up the following strategy:

In general you want to be eating the biggest rip off portions/lowest calorie combo foods.  My target would be eating chicken select (proper chicken breast) 3 boxes at £3.19 each or box of 6 chicken nuggets at £2.99 to make up the remaining £750 after the compulsory balance below is consumed.  This would work out at 235 boxes of 3 chicken selects or 700 individual chicken selects in total or 19 an hour every hour.

Do the £200 on salads to the max at £3.50 a pop so 58 salads or 1.5 salads an hour.

£50 on burgers do the absolute minimum required here.  You want to be minimised bread consumption here ideally i would have thought.  1/4 pounder with cheese easier than big mac i would have thought to eat.  £3 a pop so 17 of these.  1 every other hour.

definitely no low $ foods which are bulky so no fries, donuts etc.

Overall 19 chicken selects, 1.5 salads and half a 1/4 pounder with cheese every hour.  Actually sounds like a piece of piss when you look at it that way.  Quite fancy this chances if he likes his grub.  Quite fancy a go myself at 20/1!!!!

I wouldn't price it up.  Fairly significant chance he kills himself.  Darwinism in action though, so why should I worry?   Then again, non zero chance of a manslaughter charge.   20/1+

Happy meals with 4 chicken nuggets and either carrot sticks or fruit bag has gotta be a no brainer here? Smallest chance of killing yourself, lowest calorie count and biggest margin for value for money?

There is very little chance this is physically possible. 50-1 would be a better line.

The hardest bit would be sitting in a McDonald's for 36 hours straight surely?

What price would you be to do it if he only had to spend £500 rather than a grand with all the constraints halved relatively?

Hamburger happy meal with carrot sticks or fruit bag and water is less than 300 calories. You get 243 of them for the $800 left after salads. That's barely over 7000 calories for the whole thing minus the salads. Shaker side salad is 18 calories. So not even 7500 for the entire thing in 36 hours. There's gotta be some no happy meal stipulation but if not and the man isn't doing it this way he either wants a challenge or hates himself. Easiest $200k everrrrrrrrrrrrr.

You can't do happy meals as you are paying for the toy as well.  Unless you eat that too obv; only slightly increasing how stupid everyone thinks you are by agreeing to do so?

It said you have to eat everything except the toy, which is why i assumed happy meals were fair game. Seems silly for the people laying to allow this though at someones only real chance of being able to do it.

The guy on super size me was in real bad shape by the end of it, think he had to quit on advice of his doctors with a week(?) left. No idea about short term but must be risk of heart attack and some big gastric/digestive issues?

You hear of competitive eaters dyiing every so often.  Suspect somebody who isn't used to it is putting themselves at a bigger risk then I would be prepared to take.  That is before you take into account that he is going to be eating far more than a competive eater would.

The rules I read said

Must eat everything that comes with order.

I assume that rules out happy meals.

Why do we want value for money - surely we want the exact opposite? (less food for more money).

I can't see that there's any medical risk whatsoever as he won't be able to get anywhere near finishing.

He'll chuck a few times then at some point realise he can't do it and quit before he's even got through his first 12 hours.

Lot's of people have wasted a lot of money here by the look of it.

If you halved the amount he had to spend it'd be interesting. Professional eaters would piss that so a random might have a chance.

It's probably all just a big wind up anyway.

More interesting bets would be setting over/under lines on how much water he would have to consume to attempt it and how many times he would need to piss/shit during the 36 hours!!!

I would fancy my chances at a big price of doing it if you halved the spend.

It seems your stomach can explode, though you are likely to puke it all out before it happens.

3 litres of food doesn't sound much in the context of this bet.

I think the key is having the ability to chuck up whatever you consume. You'd need to make sure you chewed everything really well so that when the inevitable happens it's easy on the way out.

How about this for the possible angle. The rule is that he can puke as much as he likes as long as he doesn't force it. How much is an ice cream desert? Just buy a grands worth of those, wait for them to melt then drink the lot. He'll be chucking up and shitting like a trooper but he'll get through the lot quite easily I'd have thought. Even better if he's lactose intolerant as they won't even make it as far as his stomach.

$2 each maybe for a little tub? 500 tubs barely the size of a shot once melted. Loads of calories compared to the optimal calorie option but easy to consume even when feeling shit and easy to throw up.

Unless there's some ridiculous angling this is physically impossible.

Given the chance of serious health complications/actual death i seriously doubt the challenge will ever happen unless the guy somehow has zero family or close friends willing to talk some sense into him.

we used to do a challenge on the way back from nightclubs when i was in the army

biggest order with alcohol not included (yeah they were licensed in germany)  got there order reimbursed by the others in the group
biggest order i saw win the challenge was about 150DM (about £50) yeah we didn't have  36 hours and just what was left in our wallet after a night out
but i know i could barely eat 30 or 40 quids worth without feeling extremely ill

mind you that was 27 years ago so 30-40 quids worth could buy you more than it can now

Ha Mike Noori is one of my good mates, this all started from a few stupid comments in our whatsapp group chat, next thing its another dumb Noori bet.

18 months ago he made a drunk bet with us that he could lose 50lbs in 4 months, he managed it. Then he was going to walk/run around the whole of lake Tahoe in 24hrs, he deiced to bail on this one before the terms were settled (it was at 10/1 and he was offered up to 100k/1m for it) he also has a running bet where he loses 10k if he weighs over 255lbs before he turns 35. After one round of golf last year where he lost $3k the guy gave him a freeroll if he walked back to the Commerce casino from the golf course, he walked the 18 miles through some very sketchy parts of LA.

He bet $1k to win $5k on this one, the other fortunes that have been wagered are between the likes of Blitz and co, he has a fairly solid plan for how to do it and at first i was thinking he had absolutely no chance now i wouldn't want to lay it or back it at 5/1.

Absolutely gutted i won't be there to rail it/play our annual golf tournament on at the same time but it should make for some funny social media viewing (literally setting up video streaming stuff now ha)
