Wow, the Council's inflexibility says it all.

Liked this;

'I will not be paying the fine and I am willing to take this all the way to court because I believe they are being grossly unfair and a bunch of jobsworths.

'The fine is £70 - that money could put someone who is homeless in a home for a week with food.

God bless Lee.

Bloody jobsworths, this sort of thing really infuriates me. Even if they thought the story was made up someone could have called the charity to confirm.

Hope Lee sticks with it and they deal with it before it goes to court. Sure it will now it's in the national press.

Amanda from Vienna understands.....

Walked in the cold air
Freezing breath on a window pane
Lying and waiting
A man in the dark in a picture frame
So mystic and soulful

That's very kind of Nice Vienna Lady, but it misses the point really.

I'd rather see the Council shamed for their stupidity than receive the £70.

Good work Lee

+1.  I really hope it goes to court.  As was said before zero buses on xmas day.  Comical decision by the council.  Love the Phil Mitchell style Jag as well.  Shame Lee looks more like Grant than Phil.

Hope they are shamed into doing something themselves, as well as scrapping the fine.

Best of luck Lee!

A good man doing a good thing, so good for him but surely we don't think he'll win at court. A trip to court is just going to lead to a bigger fine.

The Upside and Downside of this in my view is as follows:

Downside – Going to court, the fine will not be overruled whatever the morals of the case the Judge is there to rule the letter of the law.
So Lee will incur extra costs and an increased fine.

Upside – If the exposure that Lee generates increases donations to the charity and covers his legal costs, then it’s a win situation.

I would go crowdfunding to pay the legal costs and raise finances for the charity. Crowdfunders love a good story.

Yes it's a shame but there's no way he'll win if he goes to court. The best that comes of the court threat is if the council see it as more trouble than it's worth and back down to save themselves the hassle.

Lee has to push it as far as he dares but then just before he gets to court pay the fine. It's like chicken with parking fines.

No way the council wants this in court even if they know they win. The bad publicity isn't worth it. If there's someone stubborn there though they might just push it all the way and it'll cost Lee a fortune in fees, fines and his own time. He's self employed so never good having time off.

Probably the best ending all round. It's made a lot of press so the council have not come out in a great light and Lee's good deed as created another. Which shows there are normal people in the world.

People in the public sector apply something called the Daily Mail test to decision making these days. Essentially "What would the DM say if they knew all the facts in this spot". It is offensive that we feel they are well placed to hold us to account but it is true and does drive some policy.
