I heard about it from somebody else when heading to Malaysia and I think it was even mentioned in Lonely Planet. I got invited to somebody's house to play cards when in KL and was absolutely sure I was getting set up for the scam, but wanted to go along just for the experience. I got a free lunch and met the family but maimtained throughout that I was terrible at cards and would let them down.
