Time for a Wimbledon sweat thread.

Where's the value this year?

Women;

5/1 the field for the Ladies, must be some value there somewhere?

For the Men, 7/4 Federer, 11/2 bar.

Ladies draw is somewhat lopsided, all the players are still not listed in most bookies though and waiting for the quarter prices. Murrays draw not the best! But I guess it could have been worse.

Sloane Stephens has a good draw, but no bookie is anywhere near the Betfair price which kills the e/w angle.   Still can back her on bf at a reasonable price.

That third quarter looks the weakest. Quite like Sabalenka at 25s with 356 for the quarter. She is in the Eastbourne final this weekend.

Andy Murray has withdrawn.

This was, presumably, half-expected?

I think realistically he had little chance of playing several five set matches in a row. But yeah, disappointing.

On the flipside. Jason Jung comes in as lucky loser to play his first Grand Slam event. Jason has a great blog about life on the Challenger tour

Federer wears Uniqlo, ending a 10 year apparel deal with Nike. Reports suggests he's signed a $300m/10 year(!) deal, was rumoured to be getting $10m/year before.

Sloane Stephens has a terrible draw, Vekic a dangerous floater.

BBC doing their usual awesome camera work to find every non white/middle england type in the crowd.  Truly iincredbile how obvious they make their anti racist approach to their camera work.  So much so it comes across as racist to me.  I would love to see attendance stats across the whole event of non white people attending the event as a % and compare it to the % of non white people shown by the bbc in their crowd camera work over the two weeks.

Well hopefully it may make tennis appeal more to BAME groups, like widening the footy punditry by including women aims to do.  If it makes you feel any better there was almost no covertage of the uk black lad jay clarke’s match against Gulbis.

Any love for Mihaela Buzarnescu in the ladies?  She plays Pliskova next and is an obvious dog in that.  After that her route to the final doesn't look so bad.  Possibly Venus Williams then there isn't anyone that strong who can meet her in the quarters.  The only seeds left in the 4th quarter are Serena Williams and Madison Keys.  I like Madison Keys a lot, but Serena isn't at her best.  80/1 to win, 40/1 the final e/w with Fred and the Tote.

Great story, former decent junior player, though never made the top 100 in the rankings.  Injured for years, got a PHD and came back to tennis late (she is now 30) and has been making it in to grand slams for the first time at 29.

Backing Pliskova e/w is probably a safer bet, but that would be a touch dull.

Buzarnescu dominated for a set and a half and got very close to knocking her out a couple of times in the 2nd set.  Her head went in the end after a few near misses and Pliskova dominated the 3rd set.  She is definitely one to watch if she can get more control of her emotions.

More appendage than instrument by this point, the racket swung high above Isner’s leathery, sun-damaged face, thumping yet another ace.

“Game Isner,” the chair whispers into her mic, having lost both the game count and her will to live.

“Anderson’s serve.”

The year is 2022.

If this was the grand national and they decided to extend it to 9 miles the animal rights loonies would be outside complaining.  Where are they for human rights?  Where are they saying men play longer should get rewarded/paid more?  These two done more today than the Women's winner will have done in 2 weeks and given themselves zero chance of winning the final recovery wise.

Course it is but why do women get a much bigger hourly over the event for providing what a lot of tennis fans consider to be an inferior product compared to the men's product?  That's my question.  Why do the equal pay lobby never turn up for a debate on days like today?

Watching some entertaining tennis now.... at last.

I came home at 3.30 this afternoon to see the start of this match. FML if the two giants weren't still hammering 140mph serves at each other. Perhaps most amusing was the fact that the crowd were as one in cheering and clamouring for a service break - any service break - for the last couple of hours, just to be put out of there misery & to see some tennis with a touch more finesse. McEnroe could barely restrain himself from declaring the match a farce, particularly since it would most likely mean that the winner would be spent before hitting a serve in the final on Sunday.

On a positive note, I was taken aback by Kevin Anderson's humility; he was truly close to tears as he expressed his empathy for John Isner, his friend. Certainly a class act in real life.
