Title: 14.4%
Post by: RED-DOG on February 21, 2019, 07:39:52 PM
According to a stat I just saw, in 2017 14.4% of the UK population are foreign born.

Is that a lot?

No, it is less than 15%

Probably closer to 20% if the 'true' population is considered rather than official stats.

Lol.

What I mean is it above average or far more than other countries?

It is around the same as the USA; less than Canada and Australia.   Switzerland is higher, Luxembourg is much higher (about 50%).

I remember reading Japan was pretty low (just checked, it is a bit less than 2%).

We don't look massively out of step with other Western European nations

I've decided that Luxembourg doesn't count. It's a tiny land-locked spit surrounded by other countries. It's bound to have a high population of foreigners.
