I haven't decided if I like Wilder or not yet. Seems a bit too much stick and not enough carrot atm but I will reserve my judgement for now.

What? It could happen.

Is Sheffield United the oldest football club?

Founded in 1857, the club is officially recognised as the oldest existing club now playing football in the world. Sheffield FC initially played games under the Sheffield Rules and did not officially adopt the FA rules until 1878.

I'm not allowed to do that or I would have suggested it.

If I did he would spot the "leak" and cancel my service - I've seen him do it to others.

There are streaming sites such as www.firstrowsportz.com/footy and it will be on there.

The simplest way is for you to ask my guy for a 24-hour free trial though..

Well we kept a clean sheet for 3 mins

Feel a bit sorry for them, they just keep getting unlucky and losing by the odd goal.  They seem a better team than West Brom.

Now they have lost 16 players or so to Covid and injury and they are still playing. I am not sure why they play as others have had postponements.  It seems pretty arbritary but guess there must be a reason.

Will be the maddest of all escapes if they can do it from here.

It's so hard to lose so many games (and won none - no rub intended) and have such a relatively decent GD.   Agree with doobs.   West brom are a much worse side for me.   Just shows the value of the Man U keeper i think last season.

Aw,  can't see how they improve on him.   I think it was very much an issue with signings.  They have clearly run bad at times, and the points total was improving.  Think they were likely to comd straight back up if they kept the faith.  Much more likely than West Brom anyway.

Yeah, the owner was getting all the criticism from what I have seen.

They were certainly doing Ok on the xG last time I saw, and never really looked like getting smashed 5-0.  They were well ahead of West Brom and not far off 4 or 5 others, an dthough they ran above expectation last year, it was still a massive massive achievement considering where they were when Wilder took over.

The weird thing for me is next season we will be looking for a manger apt at getting teams promoted on smaller budgets and with proven man management/motivational skills. On paper Wilder would be one of the favs for the job he’s just lost.

But, he’s committed the big error that promoted teams make in that he spent the new money the club got like a guy that’s been let loose with a credit card in someone else’s name.If you were the owner and saw your team had 60 million quid worth of new strikers on the bench yesterday and couldn’t score in a brothel I think you have every right to question the manager that’s made those signings and why you’d want to move to a more football operations guy to deal with transfers than the manager having that responsibility. The head of recruitment is a big mate if Wilders too, he should be next to go.

This isn’t aftertiming cos I raged about this on SM at the time, we sold Dominic Calvert L to Everton for 1.5 m a few years ago with no add ons for Prem appearances, Prem goals, International Apps or goals either. At 19 he was one of the best players in his age group in the country. A player he was keeping out of the England  U19 team at the time Lookman was bought by Everton for 11 million soon after.

Sold Ramsdale for 1.5 million and paid 18 to take him back. We had a % of future transfer fee added into that to take 3 mill off it. Imagine how good 20% would look from the next DCL deal too.

I’m sorry to see him go because I think he’s the best man to bring us back again up  but any rookie chairman has every right to wonder how we can’t score goals when his manager has had his pants taken down in the transfer market because the buying was more along the lines of ‘need more bodies’ not ‘need more quality’  and the selling was appalling.

Looks like you need a new Manager Tom. Who do you fancy for the job?

Klopp? Pep? Hodgson? Big Sam?

The new owner has International football people working with him so I fancy it might be a decent European guy next. European mangers are more comfortable working in the football GM deals with recruitment and manger managers  the team set up he wants too. I just hope it’s not a retread of some multiple failure guys like a Mark Hughes type.

Cheers Tom, I’m still trying explain to my 11 year old daughter why Ollie McBurnie is about 6 foot 4 stood tall and about 6 foot 2 when he jumps to head the ball. 18 mill there, 23 for Brewster. 10 for Mousset who I’m told has IBS and don’t think has ever played a full 90 minutes in the two seasons he’s been with us. Ollie Burke is a sprinter in football boots we swapped Callum Robinson for who we paid 8 million for. Tho I think we got 2 million back.

When you’ve spent that much money and the 2 best strikers we have are the two that got us out of the Championship 2 years ago, Mcgoldrick and Sharp then you’ve done something very wrong with 60 million quid haven’t you.

That was one mistake Pulis never made at Stoke until he had enough credit in the bag.  Fuller got a proper run up front for the first two seasons in the EPL after getting them up before Pulis started splashing the cash on Crouchie et al.

If so I reckon he'll have one last hurrah left.

That seems to sum it up nicely.

Wilder worked wonders with the likes of O’Connell, Fleck, Basham, Stevens, McGoldrick etc getting performances in a system that was very successful.

His big money signings have been awful other than Berge who before injury was looking like a class act.

I can see United selling Berge and either Egan or O’Connell for decent money which with parachute payments should comfortably balance the books for 2-3 years.

Hard to see another manager getting the same tune out of the current squad.

As a Wednesday fan, I hope it’s 2-3 year treading water in Championship until the money dries up from EPL. Hopefully more of a Stoke than a Norwich :-)

This is like one of those shit Facebook questions that only people with an IQ of over 130 can get right.  So who has been arrested?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/57068729 (https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/57068729)

A 24-year-old man has been arrested after a video emerged on social media appearing to show Sheffield United striker Oli McBurnie in an altercation with some young men.

In the video, a man is seen stamping on the phone he is being filmed on, before fighting with another man.

North Yorkshire Police said that "a 24-year-old man" had been "arrested in connection with an incident which involved another man being assaulted".

He remains in custody

The police statement added: "The 21-year-old victim sustained facial injuries during the incident, which happened shortly before 8.30pm on Saturday, 8 May on High Street in Knaresborough."

Sheffield United had said on Monday that they were "aware" of the video and were "investigating".

Scotland international McBurnie, 24, is part of the Blades squad whose relegation from the Premier League was confirmed on 17 April

He was ruled out for the campaign after fracturing his foot on 11 April during United's 3-0 defeat by Arsenal.

I like the 24 year old man and keep hoping there is some good reason for the video I saw yesterday.  It doesn't look good for the 24 year old man.  FWIW Quite pleased I got Knaresborough correct when I saw the video.

21 year old man (actor, extra, model, TV Presenter, Radio Presenter*) seems to have some memory issues.

Here he is speaking to the Sun

Elliott said: “We were walking and I saw him arguing with this girl. I was with two of my mates and he was getting a bit aggressive and getting a bit loud.

“I said chill out mate it can’t be worse than getting relegated as a joke.

“He seemed alright at first. He was saying put your phone away lads, put your phone away. I said: ‘Why? Why would I want to put my phone away? And then he’s just smacked me.

and here is another video

https://twitter.com/KopFinest/status/1392100799317217285 (https://twitter.com/KopFinest/status/1392100799317217285)

Presumably 21 year old has said/done a bit more before the original video, as he has followed him down the road from the centre of town (they are about 100 yards apart and 24 year old man has gone past 21 year old man to get there).

Location 2 is here ttps://www.google.com/maps/@54.009964,-1.4694607,3a,75y,193.55h,78.85t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1syIXtIMr_J1hciD7wUq5mew!2e0!7i13312!8i6656 (http://ttps://www.google.com/maps/@54.009964,-1.4694607,3a,75y,193.55h,78.85t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1syIXtIMr_J1hciD7wUq5mew!2e0!7i13312!8i6656).  The original is further down the A59 by the town hall.

Why on earth would twatty 21 year old upload that video to Social-Media?

I assume he shared it via WhatsApp or similar and someone in that group read what he was claiming in The Sun.  Guess he could be that hungry for fame and has done it himself?  In his head, he probably thinks he is way cooler than he comes across.

Given McBurnie is heading out of town, I assume he is just trying to walk home and he has had these 3 scrotes following him.   There is a good chance there has been previous handbags too to go with the abuse.

Yeah. He shouldn't chin him, and we shouldn't blame the "victim", but also wish we had better video of the previous and the comeuppance.  It could have been up there with this.
