Title: Rugby World Cup 2019
Post by: tikay on September 11, 2019, 09:02:13 AM
I don't know too much about RU, but the World Cup is imminent, so I thought I'd see if a RWC thread might get any traction. I know we do have a few RU fans here, so hopefully they will chip in.

England flew out a few days ago, & they got stranded in Japan I believe, but are presumably in-situ now.

I know nothing of the other Home Nations, but I assume they are all there.

Here's the England squad with the special livery BA 787;

Can't resist 1 more aircraft photo, it seems many Airlines are making a big deal of the RWC, here's the Emirates A380;

I was reminded of the RWC when I happened to see this Tweet, featuring Martin Johnson. In my (possibly naive) eyes, he was THE best Captain I can recall, in RU, or maybe any other sport. Proper man & a real leader. He's "Martin Johnson CBE", and if any Sportsman deserved a Sir-ness (another debate altogether) it's Martin.

Tighty (amongst others) used to be pretty handy with the RU tips here, and whilst I'm sure he'll comment, doubt you'll see too many tips as he is doing a RWC Special (£50) for Betting Emporium.

I'm not here to spam him or them, but if I were buying a RWC tipping package, that's the one I'd go for.

Anyway, there you go, I've got my work to do Next Door now, but let's hope the thread seeding works & we get a bit of traction.

Over-under on next post on the thread (excluding me), is probably about a week, but you never know, someone may pick it up.

Seem to recall a blonde mentioning he was going to the RWC, but can't recall who it was. Woodsey maybe?

Photos or it did not happen.

Yeah heading out on 11th Oct for last group game, also will be at both England’s potential QF’s and both semis if they get that far. Heading over to Seoul for a few days also in between games.

Best thing to happen to Wales for a while. Stephen Jones going out now. Far, far better coach than Howley.

Twitter is hardly a platform where we can believe everything that is said, but fwiw, the word there is that Howley placed a bet of £6,000 on England to win the RWC @ 4/1.

If true - IF - that's proper serious.

Ahh, gotcha.

"full chat" = max speed, flat out.

Think the term probably originated in motor cycling or motoring. I certainly recall it from the time I used to follow club notorcycle racing at all the UK circuits some 55 or 60 years back.

According to my research it is a motoring term, (Clarkson has been known to use it) but no one knows the origin.

That was immense! No luck there either they fully deserved that one  ;sark;

I’ve bought a Japan shirt to take out there with me as I thought they might do Scotland in the last group and was gonna go to a pub in Tokyo and watch them pull it off. Didn’t think they’d manage it today though.

That’s brill for the World Cup and rugby in general. Fking love rugby!!  ;letsparty;

Yeah good pic with my daughter, she’s 2 years old.....

I do beg her pardon. It's an easy mistake to make at that age though. ;shame;

Hope you get a ticket Woodsey.

There are still some tickets  for the final available from £560   , very tempted as it’s only a 4 hour flight from Hong Kong. That flight is 450 return

I think if I can persuade a mate to come along I’ll go for the experience

Mate keep going onto the official site and keep refreshing, they keep popping up but you need to be patient. Those tickets from third party sites carry some risk, I heard several stories out there  of them being sold multiple times and only the first person with the ticket will get in, the rest will not. So if you do decide to get one from anywhere other than the official site be there when the gates are open so you are the first one through the gates.

Shame you didn’t post earlier, I had a ticket bagged on the official site but let it go because I couldn’t stomach nearly 30 hours on a plane over 3 days and paying a lot for the privilege  :(

Cheers for the heads up didn’t know that.  I wish I had let you know earlier mate

I’m not a massive rugby fan but something so near and could be a once in a lifetime experience is tempting

Do you have a link to the official ticket  site please

You will need to keep trying a lot to get them, basically they are popping up as and when Kiwi/Welsh are deciding to resell them.

Another option if your flight price isn’t too bad would be fly over, stay in a capsule hotel for £30. I’d be going to the ground for the 3rd/4th place playoff, quite a few of those at that game will have tix for the final, get a sign up and you might be able to pick a ticket up that way. if you fail just go to the fan zone in Yokohama for the game. At least you’ll have a laugh for the weekend and see a bit of Tokyo  ;D

Alternatively send lolrron a pm and he will sort you out as many tix as you need.

A shame, writing was on the wall from very early on.

Terrific performance from SA. Monstrous defence, great scrum and can play a bit out wide too
