Title: WSOP 2020
Post by: tikay on December 12, 2019, 08:52:46 AM
Details are emerging of the 2020 WSOP, which will be held again at The Rio. Here are the key points from the rather lengthy & splurge-filled official missive sent ouit by the WSOP yesterday;

The longest-running, richest and most prestigious tournament series – opens its doors on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas and will run for 51 consecutive days through Wednesday, July 15, 2020.

_____________

The first bracelet events will start on Wednesday, May 27, 2020. The opening weekend signature event will be the $500 buy-in, 50,000 starting chip, 50-minute levels record-setting BIG 50 No-Limit Hold’em.  With starting flights scheduled for Thursday, May 28, Friday, May 29, Saturday, May 30 and Sunday, May 31 this exceptional value tournament will be another can’t-miss event.

_________________

The $10,000 buy-in Main Event Championship will have three starting flights, on Wednesday, July 1, Thursday, July 2 and Friday, July 3.  Players who compete on July 1 or 2, will return on July 4 to play their Day 2 if they survive their opening flight with chips.  Those that begin on July 3, have July 4 off and return for their Day 2 on Sunday, July 5.  Fields will combine for the first time on Monday, July 6 for Day 3 play and continue through Friday, July 10, which is when the final table is expected to be reached.  An off day is planned for July 11, with the Main Event final table televised on ESPN/ESPN2 July 12-14.

Registration for the Main Event remains open through Level 6, meaning all players participating must be in the field at the end of that first level on July 5.

__________________

The third and final event the WSOP can confirm at this time for 2020 is the popular Seniors No-Limit Hold’em Championship.  This $1,000 buy-in, single re-entry tournament will take place Thursday, June 18 at 10am and is open to those age 50 and up.  The final table of this event is expected to take place on Sunday, June 21.

This is a tad frustrating.

I go 5 nights 14th to 19th June, and although it was never with the WSOP schedule in mind, I did kinda hope there might be the option that something juicy and not too expensive could fall in those dates, should I fancy a punt.

As it stands I arrive just after Monster Stack starts, and depart the day the Double Stack event starts. Marv.
But the Ladies and Senior events both fall in my window, of which I am neither (even though its pretty cold, I still don't think I qualify as a woman, just)

Ah well, looks like the plan will remain the bars watching Euro 2020 during the day then playing $1/$3 absolutely steaming on an evening.

I know the big WSOP events have live satellites beforehand - do the $1k events have them too? And/or are there any online satellites for them? TIA.

There is a satellite room at the Rio, where they run them from $125 and up, I believe. Winners get paid in 'lammers', unless it has changed.

I doubt there will be satellites for those events. There are constant single table tournaments at various buy ins for lammers (live casino equivalent of tournament dollars, for anyone that doesn't know) at the Rio.

I hadn't even considered it when I first saw it, bit dim of me really as I also don't recall ever reading about any one dayers previously, just got over excited! Although there is one this year apparently - the last one on the link you posted, but it  is about six weeks too late for me :(

If you're planning on doing a short trip for one or two comps, just be aware that events frequently overrun by a day. Naturally, that's most common in big field holdem events, but it is best to have a bonus day factored into your flight plans.

Found another

13 July - $1000 NLHE Super Turbo (I think this is the closer for The Closer)

From a WSOP Press Release today, this amused me, when they were describing the Pavilion Room.

"Live Action Poker: Sometimes referred to as “cash games”"

Huh?

Maybe I'm more out of touch than I thought, but "cash games" have always been exactly that to me.

I assumed the term was a new requirement of the Nevada Gaming Commission, who are a funny lot, but "Kings Lounge" is described in the same e-Mail as "Kings Cash Game Lounge".

The big change this year is all the Rio Daily Deepstacks are moving from Pavilion, & instead going 400 yards or more up the corridor and along to the left to the area known as "Masquerade Village". That's where they used to have the Show in the Sky, & which houses the Kiss franchise & Chippendales theatre.

Online @ GG Poker for us & wsop.com for locals all summer.

https://www.pokernews.com/news/2020/06/2020-wsop-online-bracelet-schedule-37396.htm

Still hoping to run some version of it live in November & December according to Ty Stewart.

"We are still hopeful the traditional WSOP may be played November-December and for all of our partners are considering this a brand extension versus a pure replacement,” he told PokerNews. He also revealed that all official ITM statistics (cashes, final tables, etc.) will be tracked and reported, and that player identities would be validated.
