Title: Two versus one
Post by: TightEnd on May 12, 2020, 06:24:44 PM
List three things you have done during lockdown

Two are true, one is a lie

For me

1. Learned to play acoustic guitar to a rudimentary level
2. Won every single zoom quiz I have entered/been invited to. Been disinvited from two subsequently
3. Watched all 12 episodes of Normal People in one sitting and cried at the end.

2 is a lie either that or your not quizzing to a high enough standard of opposition

1. Exercised every day (weights and cardio, not just walking)
2. Got a bunch of bird feeders and now my garden is like an aviary
3. Averaged four hours of online poker a day

Have you considered going on Mastermind?

1. Lost a stone and a half.

2. Bought the belly of a mare.

3. Learned to play Moon River on the harmonica.

I’m really hoping that 3 is the lie. The harmonica is an ill-wind that nobody blows good.

3 points if you tell me where that line is from without googling.

Good effort. it was Duke Ellington. "The clarinet is an ill woodwind that no one blows good"

I only know about it because Ian Fleming quoted it in Diamonds are Forever.

I think #3 is the lie because you already knew how to play it.

I'm really hoping that #2 is not the lie and we get a sequel to one of your best/my favourite stories.

In a similar vein but please don't tell Danafish.

"A gentleman is someone who knows how to play the banjo and doesn't"

Generally I’ve tended to use that sentence with the word accordion.
Along with the definition of a true optimist, “someone who busks with an accordion”
