Season 3 Preview

We've reached Season 3 of the MCQ with the field growing season on season. Season 3 currently has a field of 21 with under 2 hours to go until kick off and that has seen a slight tweak to the table format with the top and bottom 5 now becoming the top and bottom 6.

Amongst the runners we have 4 debutants with HutchGF the most favoured of those. He has some decent quiz form and Hatbrokes have him priced at 66/1 so we could be looking at a player flirting with the top 6. The other newcomers are superwomble (100/1), nirvana (150/1) and celtic (500/1), and at those prices it would suggest that a midtable finish would be one to celebrate for those players. nirvana has talked down his own chances but has the potential to perform on his day whilst celtic is notorious for his quiz performances and is a clear favourite to finish last.

At the head of the market we have some familiar names. Rubbish2407 missed Season 1 due to a niggling virus but made a mockery of his 20/1 pre-season price by storming the league, winning with one question to go, correctly answering 16 of the 19 questions. Hatbrokes not taking any chances with Rubbish2407 at 4/1 but a repeat of Season 2 could again see his fans collecting after question 20. In behind Rubbish in the market is the Season 1 champion, Archer, and he is definitely a serious contender. Archer (5/1) was perhaps disappointed with his Season 2 performance but he was flirting with the top 5 late on and answered 12 questions correctly (4th highest) so it could be suggested that he needs to avoid the zero point answers to improve on that season. KarmaDope, at 11/2, is a real contender and has shown his quiz skills over seasons 1 and 2 with 7th and 3rd place finishes respectively, continued improvement could see him really challenge.

Behind the market leaders we have degston77 (8/1) and TightEnd (12/1) who both finshed in the top 5 last season with degston77 finishing 4pts behind Rubbish2407 in 2nd place. He also has a 5th place finish to his name in Season 1 so it could be argued that there's place claims in his 8/1 price but can he find that extra push to take top spot? TightEnd has had two very contrasting seasons so far, with a 15th place finish in S1 followed with a 4th place finish in S2. It could be claimed that Tighty, as he is affectionately known to his fans, is priced on reputation given his fearsome quizzing history but he finished S2 like a train and if he can get off to a strong start in S3 then he'll likely be a big challenger. Another who finished S2 well was ForthThistle, coming from a bad bottom 5 spot to answer 6 of the final 7 questions correctly to tie TightEnd in 4th place. He's available at 33/1 and a repeat of S2 could see his backers collecting on the place part of that bet.

Karabiner has been very consistent in his two campaigns so far, with safe 9th and 10th place finishes. However, he's never really been in any danger of finishing in the bottom 5 and flirted with the top 5 numerous times. Even the smallest of improvements could see Karabiner in contention for Season 3's top 6 and he looks priced about right at 25/1. Another player with two midtable finishes is jakally (8th and 12th) but unlike Karabiner he hasn't really threatened the top 5 in two seasons so will need to find a bit more to please any 28/1 backers.

Alverton went in to S2 as a real contender after a 4th place finish in S1 but he had a disaster of a season finishing in 14th and needed a strong finish to avoid last place. If he can recapture his S1 form then he could land a few place bets at 33/1 but this is a strong field and a repeat of S2 will lead to another struggle. In behind Alverton in the market is three players at 40/1 in Dacorb, stribling and bergeroo. Dacorb has finished 10th and 7th so far and has been very consistent but needs to find a little extra to trouble the top players. He teased his fans throughout S2 with the top 5 looking a possibility on a few occasions and he only missed out on a correct answer count back. stribling finished on the same score as Dacorb in S2 in a tie for 6th which was a huge improvement on his bottom 5 finish in S1. He briefly led in S1 before falling away so is one to keep an eye on if he's worked on his quiz stamina in pre-season. bergeroo is one that's been mentioned in the press this week as a potential contender after rumours of a strong pre-season but has had to work hard to avoid the bottom 5 in both seasons so far so it would need big improvement for him to challenge. Juperjiper (50/1) has a similar story to stribling with a bottom 5 finish in S1 followed up with a tie for 6th in S2 and has clearly been working hard in preparation for S3 by preparing his own quiz.

Which version of 4KSuited will we get in S3? A 3rd placed finish in the inaugural season led many to believe he could go on to be a top quizzer but this was followed up by the season of horrors as he finished bottom in S2. Rumours continue to circulate that 4K didn't take S2 as seriously as he could have and was seen coming out of many nightclubs late at night. Can he find his S1 form and compete at 66/1?

Pokerpops was rooted to the bottom of the table in his debut S2 but answered the final 5 questions correctly to pull clear of that bottom spot and finish in 14th. That was still a bottom 5 finish for Pops but he was the only player to finish with 10 points from 10 so that is clear championship form so could there be any value at 125/1? Another 125/1 shot is arbboy who has two bottom 5 finishes so far and there doesn't seem to be much upside to backing the Stoke-based player at that price with the field strengthening.

The final player to mention is Ironside, who at 200/1 doesn't seem to represent much value given his performances so far. He has finished in last and second last in the two seasons so far but has claimed he has refocused this season. His aim should be to finish midtable to show he can perform before people could really get behind the Scotsman.

Late drama as Tal enters the competition with little over an hour remaining. Tal missed S2 with a timing injury but finished 2nd in S1 and the bookies have taken no chances by having him in at 8/1.

Season 3 is off to a flier with the newly formed Top 6 filled by the only 6 players to be sitting on a full score after 2 questions. There's a few notable names amongst that top 6 already with defending champion Rubbish2407 joined by perennial contender degston77 and one of the pre-season favourites in KarmaDope. Alverton, Juperjiper and superwomble make up the top 6 with superwomble one to watch in his debut season.

ForthThistle is clearly looking to repeat Season 2 as he quickly makes his way to the foot of the table on a single point and he's joined on that score by newcomers celtic and nirvana as well as last season's basement boy 4KSuited and bergeroo. arbboy settles in to his usual spot in the bottom 6.

Five of the top 6 after question 2 correctly identified Willian as the youngest of those 3 Chelsea players to remain on a full score of 6 at this early stage. Alverton was the odd one out of that top 6 and in the question as he was the only player to select Giroud meaning he stays on 4 points and drops 10 places in the table. stribling takes his place in the top 6.

The bottom 6 was unchanged although bergeroo and 4KSuited got their first correct answer of the season. celtic, nirvana and ForthThistle have failed to answer correctly thus far and will really need to start picking up to avoid being tailed off.

The perfect start squad's numbers drop from 5 to 4 with Juperjiper scoring zero points on question 4, dropping himself from 2nd to 11th. Last season's top 3, Rubbish2407, degston77 and KarmaDope, are joined in the 100% club by newcomer superwomble who is looking to follow Rubbish2407 in winning in his debut season. He is definitely making a mockery of his pre-season Hatbrokes pricing. TightEnd takes Juperjiper's spot in the top 6 with stribling maintaining his place.

Just outside the top 6 we have debutant HutchGF and S-1 2nd place finisher Tal with both only a single point off the lead. A further point back are Alverton and, perhaps surprisingly, Ironside who is outperforming his pre-season odds. Juperjiper joins them on 6 points. jakally and Karabiner look to have already settled in to their familair midtable positions.

Again the bottom 6 is unchanged but correct answers for celtic and ForthThistle see those players move on to 4 points to join arbboy and 4KSuited. nirvana is now the only player to answer correctly and is tied at the bottom with bergeroo but both players are still only potentially one correct answer away from escaping the bottom 6.

At the quarter-way stage of the season, the fabulous 4 continue their perfect ways with 5 correct answers from 5. The questions aren't the most difficult but can be tricky so a perfect start is very impressive. It looks like the cream is definitely sitting at the top with the top 3 from last season joined in the top 6 by TightEnd (tied 4th in S-2) and Tal (2nd in S-1).

HutchGF dropped back a little with only a single point in question 5 but is obviously well within striking distance of the leaders being only two points back. stribling lost his spot in the top 6 after a zero pointer and is joined on 7pts by Ironside, jakally, Karabiner and Archer, with the latter three all enjoying similar positions to their season 2 finish.

One player who is definitely performing better than expectation is Pokerpops who is sitting comfortably in midtable on 6 points, along with Alverton and Juperjiper.

The personnel in the bottom 6 remains the same once more with arbboy the only one of the 6 to score any points in question 5. nirvana continues to search for his first correct answer.

Not a significant question in regards movement in the table with the majority knowing their Championship stadiums. The fantastic 4 maintain their perfect starts with TightEnd continuing to be a single point back in 5th. A slight slip up from Tal who moves on to 10pts, two behind the leaders. superwomble's pre-season price of 100/1 was clearly a rick with Hatbrokes struggling to price up the newcomers in this format and even now the 12/1 available could present some value.

HutchGF is another debutant is performing extremely well in 7th place on 10pts and his price was cut from 50/1 to 25/1 at the Q6 stage. He could capitalise on any slip ups by the leaders. Ironside continues to perform well, sitting on 9pts, with 3 correct answers out of 6, as he looks for his first season finishing outwith the bottom section. jakally, Archer and Karabiner continue to perform solidly, joining Ironside on 9pts.

Amazingly, the bottom 6 have been unchanged throughout the competition with some big prices now available for the players down there. It can be done though with ForthThistle flying up the table from a similar position in Season 2 to finish in a tie for 4th. Can he do it again?

I'm dropping like an absolute stone

Eventually the slip ups come, with 3 of the group formerly known as the flash 4 dropping points on question 7. The one player amongst them who didn't was none other than defending champion Rubbish2407 who now stands proud at the top of the table on maximum points and is rumoured to be touching odds on at Hatbrokes.

Those single dropped points by the likes of KarmaDope have tightened the top end of the table up somewhat with TightEnd joining them on 13pts and Tal and HutchGF only one point back. Karabiner is an eyecatcher on 11pts.

Ironside, who continued to talk a good game, took a nasty drop in the table with a zero pointer and is now only 1pt above the bottom 6, a zone he is more than familiar with. stribling is another notable who is now looking over his shoulder after 3 incorrect answers in a row.

The bottom 6 has finally changed its form with arbboy delighted to escape that group and propel himself up the table with Alverton slipping in to the bottom 6. It took nirvana 7 questions but he finally got his 2pts and that has left ForthThistle propping up the table. Rubbish2407 proves he is human after all with a zero pointer on question 8 and that allowed 3 players to leap above him in the table with degston77, KarmaDope and TightEnd holding a 1pt lead over the defending champion. Rubbish's wrong answer has allowed the table to tighten up at the top with only 1pt separating 7 players at this stage with HutchGF surely asking himself what he has to do to break in to that elusive top 6.

A bit of a thinker of a question but it could not catch out the top 2 who both answered correctly and in doing so benefited from superwomble's error to shake off one of their challengers. They didn't manage to shake off the other however as HutchGF continues his excellent debut season, sitting one point behind the leaders. Tal moved in to a tie for 4th with superwomble with KarmaDope slipping a point behind those two. Karma's season is beginning to resemble S-2 as he started strong but had a sluggish middle section.

Possibly the most difficult question so far and one I would have been certain Snodgrass would have been the correct answer for before preparing questions. Turns out a number of players also opted for Snoddy with degston77 one of those. The first zero pointer of his season has allowed HutchGF and TightEnd to join degston77 at the top on 23pts with Tal missing out on the opportunity to join them. He sits on 21pts with superwomble and KarmaDope who make up the top 6.

The top 6 hasn't changed for a while and Archer could have moved in to a tie for a spot in there if he'd answered Robertson, instead his one pointer keeps him only one point away on 20pts. Juperjiper is having a very solid season again and he is also on 20pts, as is Rubbish2407 who has recovered from his slump with 2 correct in a row. jakally could be one to watch and he seems to be emerging from the pack with 8pts out of the last 10 available.

Five questions to go and the top 6 is impressively tight with degston77 looking good to go one better than his 2nd place finish in Season 2. However, he's not having it all his own way with HutchGF keeping up the chase a point back in what is a great first season, regardless of what happens from here. Season 3 of MCQ looks to have boiled down to a two horse between two men who already have a second place finish on their record, degston77 and Tal. degston77 is a huge favourite to win from here given there is 3 questions to go and he holds a 2 point lead. It could be argued that defending champion Rubbish2407 is in with an outside chance of winning given the form he is in, but is a further point back and needs things to go his way. It looks like declaring this a 2 horse race after Q17 was very premature as a tricky question catches degston77 out and it has tightened right up at the top of the table with his lead down to 1pt. Tal missed the chance to move in to a tie for the lead with a zero pointer. Rubbish2407's campaign has definitely been one of the stories of the season, he led early in the season and then failed to answer one of the questions and found himself out of the top 6 for a period. what id everyone score for q19 you missed a page FARCE

It's there.

The millions of fans of the MCQ could not have wished for a better end to the season as we have so many stories going on throughout the league. degston77 has incredibly scored two zero pointers in a row but managed to maintain his spot at the head of the table with ties only split after Q20. In a dramatic question, Rubbish2407 could only pinch one point to move in to a tie for the lead but it was HutchGF who benefited most by scoring a two pointer to make it a three way tie at the top. Tal could have amazingly made it a 4 way tie but could only muster a single point on Q19 and will need everything to go his own way on Q20 to win.

KarmaDope sit in 5th and 6th on 28pts but on the same points we have three other players! Dacorb, Archer and jakally have all given themselves an amazing chance of the glory of a top 6 finish. Ironside has 27pts and a glimmer of hope. Juperjiper and superwomble look set for midtable finishes with superwomble only having 1 correct answer in the last 9 questions.

In the bottom 6, whilst 3 of the places are locked up with celtic, bergeroo and nirvana resigned to their fate, the others can still escape with a strong Q20. arbboy still sits in the bottom 6 but is tied with Alverton who has been dragged back in to it.

Season 3 comes to an end and there is no doubt this has been the most compelling season so far with the most spectacular finish. You'll never see anything like this ever again! We have a two time champion as Rubbish2407 successfully defends his crown, pinching the title on Q20 in dramatic fashion - 8 correct questions of the last 9 meant he came from outside the top 6 to defy 33/1 odds at the Q16 stage. Well done Rubbish2407, a tremendous effort especially considering he missed out a question.

degston77 might struggle to sleep tonight as he was resigned to a second straight 2nd place finish after 3 zero point answers in a row to finish and he and Rubbish look to have cemented themselves as the two big guns in MCQ and could have quite the rivalry in future seasons. They could be the Real/Barcelona, the Rock/Stone Cold, the Harding/Kerrigan of our time.

An amazing debut season from HutchGF saw him finish in 3rd, only losing out to degston77 on a count back and he could be a serious contender going forward. He was joined in the top 6 by Tal who after a one season hiatus came back to show he is a big player in MCQ. The top 6 was filled out by two guys who pinched places on Q20 - jakally (5th) and Dacorb (6th) did not occupy a top 6 spot at any point throughout the season until the very end. Strong finishes meant they capatilised on slip ups by the likes of TightEnd and KarmaDope.

TightEnd and KarmaDope were camped in the top 6 throughout but sensationally lost their places on Q20, a question that caught many out. They ended up tying in 7th on 28pts, one point outside the top 6. Still an impressive showing by the two big guns. They were joined on 28pts by Archer who flirted a little with the top 6 but always looked likely to finish where he did.

Ironside showed immense improvement to finish in 10th but, again, never really looked like he was a top 6 player. Similar improvement next season could easily see him as a big contender. Juperjiper finished solid in 11th but that is a slip on his S-2 finish, whilst Karabiner took his usual midtable spot in a tie for 12th with superwomble. superwomble had an unreal blow up with only one correct answer in the second half of the season. stribling won't be happy with 15th after a good S-2 and a strong start to this season. Alverton escaped a second straight bottom zone placing by finishing 16th, beating arbboy on a count back.

arbboy has now finished in the bottom zone in 3 consecutive seasons but has been so close to avoiding doing so in the last two seasons and must consider himself unfortunate. ForthThistle will be disappointed to finish in 17th after a 4th place finish in S-2. He tied with TightEnd last season so won't be happy to have dropped off the pace so much. 4KSuited is another to have finished in the bottom zone in consecutive seasons and we aren't seeing the same player who finished in 3rd place in S-1, although he has improved on his last place finish of S-2.

The bottom 3 looked nailed on quite a bit from home with celtic in 19th, nirvana 20th and bergeroo in 21st and last place. celtic and nirvana were debuting so could go better in S-4 but bergeroo will need to regroup after his most disappointing season to date.
