Title: Re: Genting pull the plug Post by: arbboy on June 16, 2020, 03:35:01 PM Terrible shame as resorts was a top place to play cash games last couple of years. Doesn't surprise me that they are pulling the plug across the country if resorts is going as that was effectively their poker HQ. Don't quite understand why they don't just run cash games in their bigger venues with zero mtts. Less floor space needed, more income per table. They obviously need the floor space in the short term as well.
Title: Re: Genting pull the plug Post by: Doobs on June 16, 2020, 03:43:46 PM Yuck. I presume there will still be an appetite for live poker amogst punters when this goes, so this may be an opportunity for Grosvenor?
Title: Re: Genting pull the plug Post by: arbboy on June 16, 2020, 04:24:46 PM I know Rich (DIK9) is a blonde member and still posts now and again. Would just like to wish him and his staff all the best for the future and thank them for running a very enjoyable card room to play in. Great craic and a good bunch of reg players. Big shame but the decision was taken at board level across the estate so beyond his team's control.

Title: Re: Genting pull the plug Post by: arbboy on June 16, 2020, 06:02:29 PM There is the small matter of nearly £50k worth of 'bad beat' types promos resorts have collected from regs in the last year for things that haven't been won but the punters have been 'taxed' for for months. This needs to be sorted and punters refunded. Regular cash game players have been paying £100s a month via increased 'promo rake' into jackpots that are now not going to be won. I have no idea how they are going to sort this but they are sitting on nearly £50k at resorts that is effectively players money that now can't be won, through no fault of our own, which we have all paid into and won less/lost more during each session for well over a year to fund these. Genting can't be allowed to keep this. Sorry for lowering the tone when dozens have lost their jobs but this needs to be addressed and fairly. No idea how they will do it but they can't be allowed to just hoover up the nearly £50k pot all the players have paid towards for months with now no way to win it.

Interesting outlook on the situation. No idea who the writer is. Certainly going to be interesting to see what G casino's response is to this is given Genting have effectively gifted them the button of acting last. I imagine their decision might have changed substantially since Genting's announcement. Grosvenor reopening in England on 1st August including poker. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-53436051 Genting have confirmed 1,642 employees are likely to be made redundant. Does anybody know if there are any casinos in East Mids which will be open from 1st August offering cash poker games? I think Gala (now Grosvenor but always Gala really) is opening 1st August. Used to have 1 or 2 cash tables running most nights, but no idea if they will be offered when they reopen. Title: Re: Genting pull the plug Post by: arbboy on July 29, 2020, 12:49:13 PM G Casino reopening 1 august casino wise but they stated on twiter that poker cash games won't be offered from that date but no date was given. Live mtt's weren't even mentioned in the tweet. Can't see those happening this year or maybe longer (or ever again) at low rec stakes.

Title: Re: Genting pull the plug Post by: tonytats on August 27, 2020, 09:18:10 PM Ok so me n Denise had a trip to Worthing to break up working from home and take our mind off cancelled Vegas trips etc
Why Worthing ? I picked up some mail sacks from here to Deutsche post Heathrow a couple of weeks ago and thought it quite sedate Also I drove back towards Dorking the A24 m25 n Heathrow via Amberley n Storrington two delightful Sussex villages ,which roads in Werrington village Peterborough where Denise was born And her mum still lives Storrington way ! We called at the devils punch bowl on the way them Amberley n Storrington before arriving in Worthing to an older on the outside but tidy Inside Burlington hotel on the sea front Wednesday evening Thursday was a visit to Brighton pavilion and the British airways i360 in the sky a glass donut that slides up a very tall pole Then the rain started So I suggested the casino at the marina ,The Rendezvous a first time visit for us ,very pleasant too and well managed The downstairs poker room has closed Casino capacity Has been reduced reduced from 700 to 135 A75% reduction because of Covid As casino is more lucrative than poker it’s GG poker They may shortly resume a 1 table cash game but for now no more tournaments I’m guessing other casinos have similar restrictions?
