Title: Cheltenham 2023
Post by: Marky147 on March 14, 2023, 11:22:40 AM
And we're (almost) off!!

Gave up on antepost after the 2020 festival, as the world obviously changed, and I no longer have time to watch/follow everything nowadays, anyway.

Shame really, as Cheltenham was like my Vegas thrift club every year, and used to all but cover the summer.

Good luck for the week to all Blondes getting involved!

Good luck Marky and all blonde punters in the annual battle against those evil bookies!

Like Marky I've had very few ante-post bets and although I'm excited, not nearly as much as in previous years.

Will dq's for whip offences affect the results for betting purposes?

Consitution Hill boosted to EVENS on Bet365 and Will Hill for anyone with working accounts

Thanks Stu, I was aware Denise was offering it, but I can't get on there, but never knew Wm Hill were offering it.

Have helped myself to a tenner.

No idea about the whip, Ralph. Guess we'll find out if it happens :D

I can't get on with either of those, so I'll have to leave those tenners on the floor.

I definitely read that any disqualifications etc will not be imposed for about a week & all results will stand for betting purposes. I'll try & find a link, but I think t was on Twitter.

Think I am doing the Supreme and then giving up.

Diverge, Rare Edition and the slowest of boats, High Definition fifth first 4.

And Epatante e/w for old times sake.

Am going to win the ten to follow instead.

Good luck all.

Here it is Ralph;

[i]Potential offences are now referred to a Whip Review Committee rather than being dealt with by racecourse stewards on the day.

The committee does not just focus on numbers.

It looks at the force used; whether it was used from above shoulder height; the time given for a horse to respond; the purpose of use; whether the horse was in contention or clearly winning; and whether the whip has been used in the correct place (for example, on the horse's hindquarter rather than flanks).

All bets by punters will stand on the day, with any breaches - and potential disqualifications - not dealt with until the following week.

Backed the wrong one e/w in the supreme, and bricked up the Ultima :(

Bet the bookies took a hiding in that race, with the first 5 all 8/1 or under & both faves in the first 3.

Metamorpheus prevented a bricked up Tuesday, and what a great day of racing.

A new superstar, and a fabulous swansong.

bookies carried out on stretchers will be odds on to be said by every pr man tonight (they always lose on tuesday so why do they not save a days expenses and turn up on wednesday?) never understood that.   I just bet on tuesday then put my feet up

Was in 50th, so yes, but swapped Honeysuckle for Marie's Rock as the latter was likely to run in a 50 pointer at Aintree.  Can probably still top 10 as I was one of a handful with Shiskin in originally.

So are you (and me  ;bigadz;) after Stage Star.

My guru Simon Rowlands is tearing it up with TRW and Langer Dan yesterday and the first one today.

Shame he's packing up his tipping column for ATR - this is his last hurrah.

It was the Racing Post selection apparently.

I haven't bet antepost since before 2020 festival.

I think I had 4 or 5 bets more than a month out this year. Most of those were a few weeks before, too :D

If I was a big enough punter I'd pay the £200 to save me anything bar reading on the morning of the races.

He's going to make money way more often than I am :D

Was great fun the years of building a book and watcing every race through the year. Nice having a few arrows in every race come the festival.

Also made Vegas cheaper, as Cheltenham was like my thrift club, and I'd get my money back in March ready to buy $.

i doubt many punters in history have had 11/1 twice 20/1 and 40/1 win at the same meeting.  You are very modest and a very good judge

I'm alright, but definitely a mile behind proper judges. Mate of mine is a good judge, and he gave me Stage Star.

I only backed Envoi because I had a freebet. If I was going to bet my cash, I'd have backed Shishkin, but even I know not to back even money shots with freebies :D

I can brick up tomorrow now and my UFC ticket is still free, though.

way too modest one of the all time cheltenham tipping efforts in history.  If anyone randomly had a 20p combo lucky 63 today across your picks its happy days!  Hardly like you had 4 in each race either!

Would have prob had to be a 2pence one, as it would be permed right up and I'm a peasant nowadays.

I had one placed horse in he first 14 races, so that has to go down as one of the worst efforts :D

I think it has to go down as a vintage edition.

Likewise, and haven't been as invested since I stopped betting antepost after covid.

Was an amazing week, and that Tuesday was just superb.

Don't have the time to get involved like I used to, but am definitely looking forward to 2024 now!

Was an awesome night, and the roof almost came off when Leon retained his title, despite losing a point in the 3rd round.

Didn't enjoy the 90minutes to get out afterwards, which was a consequence of having vip parking right at the entrance, rather than using the normal carpark at the to, and the fact there are loads of roadworks around it, too.

Think I'll probably stay Essex side of London next time, and just suffer the longer drive back on the Sunday.

Just watched it now, and a good sweat until the last 50 yards.

Haha, good stuff. I have just ordered one myself, and intend to do the same.

Only 11 months until the preview circuit starts heating up again :)
