Post by: Supernova on June 01, 2023, 04:50:31 PM
I had no idea where to put these gems but I just had to share them. I'll kick off with the Mael brothers Russel 84 and Ron 87 at The Royal Albert Hall on Monday 29th May 2023.

They really are still very good. Didn't realise they were that old though. Saw them in 1974 when they toured the "Kimono my house" album that this track was off.

Just checked and you've aged them by 10 years Supernova, still outstanding though.

That's very good indeed, love seeing old bands I loved in my youth providing they are somewhat in shape still.

Went to my first gig at the RAH in April, was worried about sitting at a gig for the first time in my life but gotta admit at my age now, loved the comfort and the venue.

Love it.

When Jarvis does his introductory bit about all the band members, Candida always gets the biggest cheer. Quite right too. She'll never win any awards for being a great musician because she's not, but it's a miracle she can even play at all given that sh's a lifelong severe arthritis sufferer, & her hands are all scrunched up.

I caught the very end of his set. Just in time for Highway to Hell and Never Gonna Give You Up. He had a very decent crowd and it was full of smiling faces

Obviously very dependent on whether you enjoy the Smiths but massively enjoyed him and the Blossoms doing a full Smiths set. The songs do the heavy lifting but his enthusiasm and obvious enjoyment in performing made it a great watch and listen, a bit corny, sure..but loved it

Joni Mitchell will be 80 on November 7th. After suffering a brain aneurysm rupture in 2015 I can say hand on heart I would not have been surprised if an announcement saying the worst was on the cards.

It didn't come and after undergoing physical therapy and learning to walk again on July 24th 2022 with the support of many friends she played a set including a solo on the guitar at the legendary Newport Folk festival in Rhode Island.

I confess to not loving 100% of her music but oh my gosh if you read her Wiki you will see what a legend she is.

She is incredibly loved and respected by so many and Brandi Carlisle especially has been with her through it all, much respect to everyone.

Here she is singing Summertime and then Circle Game with some of her friends at the 2023 Gershwin Prize concert on March 1st where she was awarded the 2023 Gershwin Prize for her lifetime contributions to popular music.

There is a long introduction before the song by the way.

Such a remarkable lady.

Saw Kristin Hersh the other day.

Not my video, but so special to see someone who was/is such an important artist playing in a room with less than 100 people in.  Can't imagine many of those who were so influenced by the Throwing Muses doing this.  She is still producing original music too.

Would recommend if she in your area. Good to not be looking over a sea of phones and nobody was chucking beer around too.

EDIT; Tried to fix invalid link David, not sure if worked.

Gene Simmons 74 and Paul Stanley 71, 2 of the original members of Kiss.

Kiss were not just a rock band, they were a bundle of fun too and I really enjoyed the few gigs I saw from the 70's upwards.

How they continued to walk in platform shoes for the whole of their career I will never know. I let mine go as a health hazard way before the end of the 70's.

They played their last gig at Madison Square Garden on 2nd December 50 years after they played their first gig at the Coventry in NYC on Dec 21st 1973.

Enjoy this video from their last gig of Paul Stanley on a zip wire platforms and all.

Happy Retirement Kiss.
