Title: TONIGHT at 8.30pm - Is this the Best Online Line-Up EVER?
Post by: tikay on February 20, 2006, 03:43:42 PM

OK, "best online  EVER" MAY be  slight exaggration, but not much, I think you'll agree.

Fancy seeing THIS field tonight?

21 runners, including the following fish......

The Rookie, Brian Wilson - 2005 Bracelet Winner

Lucy Rokach - Best Lady Player in Europe, possibly the World?

Lawrence Gosney - 2005 Bracelet Winner

Roland De Wolfe - 2005 WPT Winner

John Shipley - WSOP Main Event Finalist

The Camel - QPR Supporter & Jake's Dad.

Stuart Fox - Due a big win

Kevin O'Connell - Drinks for England

Rob Yong - The Dusk Till Dawn visionary.

Greg Junior Hill - cant say too much, but his William Hill Grand Prix performance was awesome.

Robert Cooper - The Vic EPT third, & Poker Den Winner

Achileas Kalakkis - Twice Poker Den Winner, third in the Pacific Open

Paul Parker - Talks for England.

James Curry - CinCin League Winner. Don't know him personally, but from chatting on the 'phone, lovely lad.

6 internet qualifiers.

Oh, & the REAL DEAL - yours truly......!

It's an Invitational Freeroll, & the winner gets a seat to the Monte Carlo EPT, plus €2,000 expenses.

And a novel clock - 2,000 starting chips, blinds start at 10-20, then 15-30, 25-50, 50-75, 75-150. So after FIVE levels, it's still only 75-150, and then the clock gets slower - 4 levels at 15 minutes, 4 levels at 20 minutes, 4 levels at 25 munutes, then 30 minutes all the way. But I should have it sewn up by then.

If you fancy watching this table of rocks strut their stuff, just go to the "EPT FINAL INVITATIONAL" on Sporting Odds.com - you do NOT have to deposit any money to watch - and if you correctly Forecast the 1-2-3 in the correct order, Sporting Odds will give you $200, just to add a little interest. Entries must be Posted on this thread before 8.30pm tonight.

I know this is a bit of a chirp, but this is SOME Line-Up - The Rookie, Lord Lawrence Gosney, Roland De Wolfe, Lucy, Camel, Stu Fox - there is gonna be blood on the floor!

My game plan? Ooh, aggressive as ever, mixing it up with these rocks big time.

8.30pm TONIGHT, Sporting Odds.com.

I will Post their usernames shortly.

"welcome to the cliquey world of poker" & "you kept that quiet"......

As ever, I will tell you exactly how all this came about, seeing as the jibes have begun.

"you kept it quiet".

I have made it clear on several occasions that Sporting Odds.com pay me a retainer to do various stuff for them, but also that I am uncomfortable with spamming on blonde for Sporting Odds.com - I need to be whiter than white here, as blonde has an anti-spam policy. So I get involved with them & for them on ALL sorts of things. Pro-Ams, TV Programmes (two x Peoples Poker Challenges), Networking with their Clients, Monthly Articles, Pro-Tips (yes, chuckle if you wish.....), advice to Newbies, (ditto....)  the monthly tikay tourney, some other stuff that is in the pipeline, emptying the rubbish bins, fetching the sarnies. Largely speaking, I try & keep Sporting Odds.com & blonde seperate, I do not use blonde as a tool to promote SO.com, but if something interesting happens, I tell you. An example would be the monthly tikay tourney, in which many blondes have a bit of fun.

I have no idea how & when the Internet Qualifiers got their seats, in fact I am not even sure they had to qualify, truth is, I just don't know, &, in truth, it's not really of great interest to me, as it's none of my business how they did it. They may have just selected 6 of their most loyal players, or larger punters, I really have no idea.

They did do a deal with Cincins to provide a seat to the winner of the Cincins League in January, and this was widely publicised on blonde, though not by me.

"welcome to the cliquey world of poker".

They also asked me to find "a dozen or so" decent players of varied background, ability & achievement, such that a tidy line-up would ensue. I believe I have delivered on that request. I could have invited any number of permutations of players, but not everybody was eligible - all invitees has to be un-sponsored, as the winner has to wear the SO.com shirt in Monte Carlo. Some, for example, El Blondie (Littlewoods) Thewy (William Hill) & many other "names" were not eligible. Others, such as, selecting one at random, WPT Winner John Gale, were not available. I could have come up with literally hundreds of permutations of players, but I had a brief from, SO.com, & I think I've delivered. No two people on earth would have come up with the same list, & nobody can say I am wrong or they are wronmg. It's just the way it panned out, it's a subjective thing - if you want to substitute "subjective" with "cliquey", feel free. I was asked to do a job, & I did it to the best of my ability. And I'm well proud of the field I assembled. "a decent field of varied background, ability & achievements".

My seat? I never asked for it, & never thought for a minute I would be given one, & I never put my name forward, but they invited me, & I accepted, & I'm well grateful to them.

Heaven only knows how much hoohah would go off if I went & won the seat for Monte Carlo, but I guess they reasoned they were on  pretty safe ground there.....

There you go, that's what it says on the tin.

Now, I gotta go. The eldest Cat is doing his furball trick - throwing up on my new rug. I need her to get well sharpish - she's playing for me tonight.

I must tell you a quick Lucy story.

I rung her about summat this morning, she did not recognize me, no surprise there.

I said "is thare anyone in authority there?"

"I beg your pardon" she says incredously.

"Is the man of the house about?" I went on.

"And who, may I ask, are YOU?" she spat.

Eventually she clicked, & I said "that's 1-0 to me Lucy".

"But it will be one all if you are on my table tonight you fish" she responded kindly.

So, if you have you to nominate your 1-2-3, bear that in  mind. It's gonna get personal between me & the Animal. I think she's gonna have to avoid me until we are heads-up. Then she can't hide.

yes mate, i do know James.

I first met him when he was running his own DJing and Karaoke Business (very successfully too i may add), mostly round about south Lanarkshire, but then branching into the actual city centre.

He is a smashing guy who always has time to help you out if you need anything, TBH tho i hadnt seen him for over 3 years, and had no idea he had got into the poker game, until a few weeks back when he came to CinCins one night, and we got talking again.

Turns out he joined the cincin league quite late, yet still managed to make the top 9 and then go on to clinch the online seat 2 weeks ago, so his skills at poker cant be too shabby.

sorry i have nothing else to tell about him, but as i said i havent seen him for a few years and have no experience of his poker play.

i really hope he does well tho, as he is a genuine great guy.

You never know if i ask him nicely, i might persuade him to bring his Karaoke equipment to the BlondeBash II! - now theres an idea?

And by the way, it's the EPT Monte Carlo, not the WSOP.

Good luck to all! This sounds great tikay, brilliant list and excellent idea...

Tough as its on the net so certain players are more suited to playing on it!

Shipley
Foxy
Parker

Those are my choices, though greg could break his online rut, and lucy could crack the comp playing against a high volume of "live" players...

Crikey, there are some nutters among the blonde crowd!

Just to make sure I have at least 5 PRO supporters for the event, if I win the seat tonight I will give the foolhardy 5 who picked me to win (Robert, The Baron, Silo Graham, neeko and Jim D) 1% each of me in Monte Carlo.

Really looking forward to it, although Jake may get the controls if I'm ever heads up in a pot with Lucy. She scares the living daylights out of me!

And someone inferred Achilleas Kalakkis hardly needs the money. This much is true, we'd all like to be a £biilion behind him, & I exaggarate not.

But I've played, at a guess, over 25 or 30 single table Live SNG's with him, usually at £500 or £1,000 a pop, and let me tell you, he's THE fiercest competitor you could ever wish to meet. Nobody will be trying harder than him  tonight.

I wish them all Good Luck. They are gonna need it.

If just one of them offered to sit out I think it would force the other to do so also. Having said all that, if I was in the same position with an EPT seat on the line. I'm not sure what I'd do.

Does the rookie not have a deal with USA poker?

do we know the reason for Rob's disconnect and failure to re-connect.

It seems unfortunate , and its alright for us to say what we would have done in that situation, but we have to remember that for a large proportion of these players, this is their livliehood, and a free entry to a million buck tournament could be major benefit to them.

I have met RC a few times and always found him to be polite and helpful. Guess we are just lucky that we have an extra good friend in Reddog who is more likely to need the cash (no offence Red) but would prefer to win it in a different way. Poker is a game of many styles and although I don't particularly like what has happened I can only accept that that is what happens on a regular basis on the net and not everyone is as well versed in blonde manners as some of us are.....

Thanks guys. Sporting Odds donated £500 to my charity for my last home game so i'm not sore at them. Ben Walton said that their server went down and disconnected me (I could still log into Crytpo and Stars so it was not a problem my end, and we tried to get back on on 2 different Pc's with no success). These things happen.

In terms of the other 2 players, maybe they did not know that "yongsta" screen name was me so it wasn't personal. However, I don't really know Robert Cooper, but knew the writing was on the wall when he immediately raised in the SB to take my uncontested BB as soon as I disconected. I have nicked so many of Paul Parker's blinds in the past that I could sit out for the next twenty years and I'd still owe him a few blinds so no problem there either. Personally, I would have sat out but that doesn't mean what they did was wrong, just maybe a little bit opportunistic, which I guess is part of the game.

Although I had 50% of chips in play, I was 2 hands away from being busted, and it was a freeroll, so thanks to Tkay for inviting me and maybe I'll get better luck next time.

Cheers Rob

OK, let's try & clear this up.

The Disconnect was at the Site's end, not Rob's. I have chatted with Ben Walton at Sporting Odds, he's pulling his hair out - tonight of all nights for it to happen - but as blonde knows only too well, software glitches are par for the course, & they ALWAYS haoppen at the worst moments.

I chatted with Rob too (been some busy night in the tikay home, I can tell you), & he's clearly very disappointed, but he knows the score. It was a Freeroll Invitational, & he & Ben have good relatiions prior to this, & still do, as SO.com donated a heathy sum to Rob's Charity recently. SO.com will certainly bear Rob in mind in the future, & cometh the moment they will try & make it up to him somehow. I regret it too, but it's just one of those things, & when all is said & done, it's only poker & money, nobody's been hurt. And we have no idea if Rob woulda won or not, but he was clearly favourite to do so. Sometimes things turn out for the best by the weirdest routes.

Sit Out or Play when the Chip Leader has been disconnected? In the heat of the moment passions get aroused, & we all have strong feelings one way or another.

Truth is, if €12,000 was at stake, many would play on. I'm not sure what I'd do - I like to think I'd Sit-Out, I generally do when it happens in H-U or SNG's, but I've never been in that position when €12,000 was on the line. Or offline, as the case may be. And what if one of the two remaining players sat out, & the other did not? It ain't as easy a call as some might think.

Another day, another bit of fun. Life is never dull, eh?

Flushy asks if Rookie has a deal with USA Poker. No, he does not. He has one-off deals with all sorts of peeps, as many do, but he was contractually available, keen & willing to play Monte Carlo in Sporting Odds apparel, had he won tonight. €12,000 is a lot of money to anyone, even the Rookie, & he was well up for it.

Cheers for the explanation, someone should give him a damn deal, he is so funny!

Im sorry the way it panned out Rob,as you had a favorites chance. I initially thought you were coming back at any moment. The game soon takes its own dynamics, it doesnt take long.Robert played well and then had the good fortune of not having to beat you (poker is all about good and bad breaks). It would be a shame if he felt he couldnt enjoy his victory because he played well. Sincerest commiserations and best of luck in the future.

Tony,

Poker players will be poker players. I can imagine the final table of that comp. people will have worked hard to get there, and they will do whatever it takes to get to their goal.

It wasn't fair, but hate to say it, but life isn't fair.

One more notch on the Karma-o-meter for Rob, and no harm done.

Don't feel bad, it wasn't a farce, it was a good match, and the disconn. could have happened to anyone.

I can't say how I would have acted being in the same position - I don't think anyone could.

But at the basest point, you don't control the actions of anyone - they are ultimately responsible.

You brought a great field together - you can't control how they run.

Don't feel bad.

It is bad luck for Rob, you get all kinds of breaks and it is a shame he had a bad one tonight. Watch him play in Monte Carlo now and win the comp :D

I do not have a "contract" w/ any site at this time, have not found the right deal yet. I wore the USA poker shirt in the 888.com for Mr Cool.

Well played by all, thanks Tikay for the invite, will see everyone in Monte Carlo 8)

First off all.... Damn Rob - Feel sorry for disconnection. But it happens now and then at Sporting unfortuanly....

and congrats to winner WPT - Well played

It was true an experience to play you guys. Tough opponents i sure must say....
I won one off the qualifier heats and have played poker for about 8 months now.
I struggled and kept getting crappy cards and sure not the luck... (Str8 flush against my nut flush)  :blonde:
Agressive play at start - Damn....

Thanks for an experience and lessons to learn

I'm working my way up...  ;)

Who was playing under the account 'WPT'?

It was a great tournament and a real shame it didn't get played out the way it was intended but these things happen in the cyber-world.  In fact, I believe this is how Chris Moneymaker won his seat to the WSOP as his oppo had a power failure, which allowed the moneyman to come back from a 3:1 chip deficit and win (correct me if i'm wrong).

Tikay - many thanks for the invite, i thoroughly enjoyed it and i believe it was a great experience for all the players and spectators alike.  I feel SO.com have set a real marker here for other sites in terms of added value.  Its about time internet poker gave something back to the punter and this was a real innovative idea. - excellent stuff!

Re: Robert Cooper - Dubai is right.., he is not poor (drives a Bentley coupe with a personal reg plate and arrives at poker comps by helicopter) but he has as much right to win as anyone else and he played well by all accounts early on and may well have won without the server problems. - who knows.   Unlucky Rob - get your revenge in Monte Carlo... or you could always ban him from your club  :D :D.
