Peter Costa has a nice early hand taking out the $10000 short stack, who moves all-in with AKQx, called by Peter in the big blind with JJ67.  The flop of 3 3 8 is given another 3 on the turn to mean Chester Son Pierre is drawing dead and out in 18th

Meanwhile on the other table Istuan Novak goes all-in apart from one chip preflop, putting Simon Trumper on a decision, which he eventually makes in favour of calling.  Of course it's all-in on the 9s Qh Qd flop and Simon's A4d 35s are up against I. Novak's AA78.  The turn and river are 7s, and I. Novak doubles through.

10 mins at the Hotel - she got 3, & was ready with a minute to spare!

Her flight, due in at 1.30, landed at 12.55 - & no queue at Immigration for Jen, she holds a US Passport, so she whizzed through. Taxi to The Orleans, booked in to her room, out again in 2 minutes, & here at the Rio 5 mins later! What a lady.

She is just relocating her computer. She & I have different work stations. I am in the Press Room, but Jen has managed to set up on an empty table right next to the two Omaha tables. I have introduced her to Pete Costa & Simon Trumper, & Jen will now follow this Omaha comp all the way.

Good, 'innit?

Just in case anyone notices the detail, I clearly cannot count as there are now 16 players.

Aces lost a decent sized pot and must be nearly last place.

John Gale takes out Larry Jonsson with 2255, which fits nicely with the 4 2 7 9 4 board.  So down to 15.
Then Tony Cousineau fell hot on his heels, making two tables of seven....  Things happening so fast here.

Oh and did I mention this room is as big as Disneyland?  Somewhere in here El Blondie, Womble, Julian Thew and others are simultaneously playing the $1000 hold'em... more on them later

Aces makes back quite a pot when all-in with 9 9 10 J, hitting the 9 2 Q 7 8 square on.  So on around 78000 now

Peter Costa's raise was reraised by Todd Brunson who found himself in pretty dodgy shape with 9 J Q K rainbow vs. Costa's A 9d K 8h.  The Q somehow appeared all alone to give Todd Brunson about 25000 more.  More accurate chip counts for the final 14 in a sec.

In the $1,000, I just saw El Blondie & he told me James Woods is on his table. I asked him what this Woods geezer had won, he just rolled his eyes. But Jen reckons he's an actor bloke.

Jen is like a whirling dervich, whatever one of those is. She is whizzing around the tables to note the action, she makes me feel positively old.

There is a $1,000 NLH comp on as well, with zillions of runners, including a whole heap of blondeites. We will pick up this comp as it progresses, but if you want any chip counts for anyone in particular, just say, & we will get them for you.

OK I am getting yellow-carded for my lack of press pass so I am sorry my counts are not all players, or that accurate..... managing to bluff being just a bit confused and saying 'I'm terribly sorry' in a posh British accent

John Gale                  100000
Rafi Amit                   140000
Julian Gardner            100000
Erik Seidel                 150000
Peter Costa                35000
Vinny Vinh                350000
Jeff Rine                     45000

Peter Costa takes another pretty big hit with K 10 Ad 4d against Vinny Vinh who held K Q 6 5.  The flop was K 10 6, with 2 diamonds, but a 6 came on the turn, which was checked, and then a 5 giving Vinh the house and overall chip lead.

Its a loyalty card - lol

Is Tony Bloom out?  have I missed something or ommited on last post?

Title: Re: WSOP $10000 PLO DAY 3
Post by: Djinn on July 05, 2005, 12:25:46 AM
Big hand sends Max Pescatori down to a few thousand - on a 10 J 2 flop he bets out, gets a huge raise from Gabriellson on his left, then with about 160000 in the middle calls the c.80000 raise and shows a flush draw against 2 pair (Gabriellson shows Q J 10 2)  the 2 on the turn fills him up and the river 7 makes no difference.  That pot puts Gabriellson comfortably around a quarter mil in chips.

No Tony Bloom on around 45000
Peter Costa down to 8000

Sorry for omissoin, but large men are sitting in front of Mr Bloom and until we wangle or fabricate a pass (tried my UGC Unlimited pass) I will be a bit inaccurate.  Tony running back and forth with amazing alacrity though....

The Omaha is on a 10 minute break, there are 13 left.

Jen seems to have been thrown out, I cant find her.

On the last hand pre-break, Pete Costa & Tony Bloom were both all-in, and Billy Deep Stack in seat 9 was in the pot. Pete Costa flopped a set of 9's, & rivered quads, to treble up to 21k, sadly Tony Bloom exited & Billy Deep Stack took the side pot.

In the $1,000NLH, El Blondie is not on ANY table, he got busted out by James Woods. Dave had 33, & did not believe James Woods had a hand - guess he thought he was Woods acting.

Tikay may look old, but when he puts his mind to it, he can drink beer all night and play poker all day long. He only plays Aces anyway, so he just hires someone to look at his cards and call for him when he gets AA.

Post by: Djinn on July 05, 2005, 01:05:00 AM
Sorry my battery died right as Tony Bloom went out - typical.  The flop was 9 A J
Tony Bloom all-in with Q Q J 3
Peter Costa all-in for less with 9 9 10 4
Call from Gabriellson

And as Tikay said, the rivered 9 makes quads for Peter who is now on 21000, but Tony Bloom is out....

P.S. Someone with an Eminem shirt said it looked like Tony, never mind Mr Goss

Behave Slo-Mo, & the photo is not genuine........

This morning Rhowena interviewed Joe Beevers, then straight after, I interviewed Greg Raymer. Greg said "Oi Tikay, how come Beevers got Rhowena, & I end up with you". What's HIS problem, eh?

I will go & see how Yoyo & Junior are getting on right now. Yoyo Thew is on the same table as Daniel Negranau, & the pair of them are getting involved in a lot of pots together - fascinating!

Hush now Sig, they think I am teetotal, our secrets from Norway must stay secret.

JOHN GALE OUT

Simon Trumper called John Gale's all-in with A K 10 10 (2 hearts including A)
vs Gale's A K 9 3 (2 hearts including K)

There was a big disordered pile in front of Aces, but we are estimating 160000 now!

Simon can't leave the chip leader alone - just got involved in a pretty big pot where the flop was 6 5 6, and the turn another 6.  Simon makes a big bet and after a lot of thinking Vinh folds.  Simon shows AA and asks the obligatory "did you have Kings?" which got the almost as obligatory nod.... anyway he's on around 285000 now and going strong

JULIAN GARDNER OUT 10th

Raise from Rafi is reraised by Julian Gardner preflop, and called.      Flop: 10h Kc Qc  - Rafi bets out; Julian is all-in.
Rafi holds K K 10 10 while Julian has A A 3 3, with the nut flush draw.
The turn is the 9s, the river the 5d and now Rafi Amit is a contender for chip leader along with Vinh and Aces, while Julian Gardner walks over to collect his prize.

How many in the room? 2,000+.

Thewy says he "played his way out of trouble by guile & skill". Actionjack - same table - says Thewy got lucky, & just kept moving all-in. Negranau OUT.

We will start a seperate thread for the $1,000 NLH Rebuy after the imminent break. It may be a bit more "manageable" by then.

Oh, the blinds are a considerable 3000-6000.

I think there are at least 50000 people around the limit final table alone.  In all seriousness, this is the sort of convention centre you could have a yacht expo in and it's jammed to the rafters - at least 200 tables all playing this or that.  The final of the $3000 limit is taking place right across from the Omaha.  I just don't have enough eyes.

It seems that 'show one show all' isn't really something they're too fussed about down here - Rafi minimum raised Simon Trumper's big blind from the small blind, and when he folded, showed him one card.  Simon made a face like he was eating a lemon and everyone went about their business with no hand waving and insistence on being in on the secret.  In case anyone didn't already know that Americans have their own interpretations of rules.... oh and there's lots of Grabbing Big Stack and Raising a few piles At Random, just like on TV.

The final table blinds are now 4000 8000.

In flurry of action I NOVAK out 9th, AND ERIK SEIDEL out 8th -

Following on from Vinny's taking out short stack Novak, Erik Seidel gets all in with the double-suited Aces, called by Rafi with AKQQ.
The board comes 3 5 A.......J.....10 and suddenly they are down to seven, and all before the dinner break.

Sig, Edgard is not at the table right now, he's gone for something to eat.

And a slight correction to Jen's last post - it was  Simon Trumper who rivered the straight to bust Seidel.

Derek Baxter has made an amazing comeback, he's up to about 200k now.

FERIT GABRIELLSON out in 7th.

Having become very short, he eventually found a hand to move all-in with, getting 2 callers (Simon Trumper (S.B.) and Jeff Rine)
Flop comes 2 Q 8, all clubs, followed by the Ah and then K, also of clubs.  It is checked down by the 2 players with chips, and Simon went on to show the J4c which was good enough to win a 62000 pot and knock out Gabriellson in 7th.

Simon Trumper lost a few having gotten into a preflop raising battle with Rafi, seated to his right.  He initially reraised a further 64000 and when Rafi raised again, had a big decision and after a lengthy dwell passed, showing Kings.

The short stack appears to be Todd Brunson, on around 70000.  I heard a friend of his shouting to him "I've got your dad on the phone - he wants to know your chip count!"  So that's how I know it.

Rafi Amit          560k
Aces Trumper   200k

Vinny Vinh       430k

TODD BRUNSON OUT IN 6th

The unstoppable Rafi took out short stack Brunson with JJ77 which fit nicely with the board of 9 3 J 3 K.  Brunson was all-in with Q 10 9 8 double-suited red.

He wins the Most Original Haircut award in my opinion, however, for his mullet-cum-5footponytail.

Rafi                  670000
Simon Trumper  140000
Derek Baxter     180000
Jeff Rine           200000
Vinny Vinh        380000

SIMON 'ACES' TRUMPER TAKES 5th and $93,060

Having raised Derek Baxter's big blind, with a call, the flop came 4s 4c Qh, and when it was checked, Simon pushed all-in for 53000.  Baxter called;
Simon showed K K A 9, against Derek's A J Q 10.  The turn brought a 10, and the river made Derek Baxter a boat with another 10.

DEREK BAXTER OUT IN 4th

Blinds are now at 5000 10,000

Rafi Amit and Derek Baxter see a flop on a raised pot, which gives them J 9 Q, two hearts.  Rafi in the small blind checks, and Derek bets 80,000 from the button.  After some lengthy thought, Rafi decides it's all or nothing and raises Derek all-in, holding the straight on the flop with his hand being 7 8h 9 10h.  Derek calls with Ah J 5h 9 but the 4c and Kd which follow don't bring any help and he's the recipient of the 4th prize of $124,080.

JEFF RINE OUT IN 3rd

Vinny Vinh takes out Jeff Rhine when he bet out 70,000 on an A 7 9 rainbow flop, only to have Jeff raise all-in with As 6s 10h Js.  He called in a flash with A A 2 7 (suited in clubs and hearts) and the 5h 6c which came gave him Jeff's chips, while he in turn walked with the third prize of $155,100.  Now Vinny Vinh and Rafi Amit are heads-up and there is a bracelet on the table....

Title: Re: WSOP $10000 PLO DAY 3
Post by: Djinn on July 05, 2005, 07:37:45 AM
Finally, the compere discovers the Omaha final table when they are heads-up, and Rafi Amit and Vinny Vinh get a bit of mic time.  Rafi is the chip leader with 1,111,000 chips, with the rest being across from him (c.450,000)

There is a big pot after about half an hour of cageyness, when Rafi raises by 15,000 preflop and is called by Vinny.  The flop comes 8h Jd 3d, and it is Rafi on the button who makes the action, with Vinny calling.  On the turn which brings the 2d the pot grows to 160,000 as Vinny continues to call, with a final call on the 7d river when Rafi once again bets - this time 150,000.  Rafi shows a surprise pair of 10s, while Vinny's Queen-high flush is more than good enough to take down this pot of almost half a million chips.  It grows more even....

Title: Re: WSOP $10000 PLO DAY 3
Post by: tikay on July 05, 2005, 08:02:46 AM

Chip Counts....

Vinny 863,000

Rafi 760,000

Approx.

Poor Jen is determined to see this comp all the way - 10 hours on a plane, off the plane, straight to the Rio via The Orleans to drop her bags off, then 10 hours straight updating here. Amazing energy.

Title: Re: WSOP $10000 PLO DAY 3
Post by: Djinn on July 05, 2005, 08:27:21 AM
The chips have evened out, and the two remaining players have entered that stage of cautiously folding to a preflop raise, or calling and checking it down.  Possibly a few more of these situations have been taken by Vinny Vinh, but with the blinds at 6000 12000 and the best part of 2 million chips on the table there is still potentially a lot of play left.

I can take this opportunity to extol the virtues of the Las Vegas buffet, which was magnificent.  Highlights include a giant roast of a pig which must have been the size of a rhino and just the all-you-can-eat glory that is the cake section.  Great.

Post by: Djinn on July 05, 2005, 10:14:33 AM
After what seems like a decade of back and forth small pots, there comes a nearly-decisive flop of 8 9 8.  Rafi is holding J 9 9 4 while Vinny has A 10 8 5.  It is not until the 5 comes on the turn that the underhouse traps Vinny's whole stack and he can't escape.  He is left on 95,000.

***sudden controversy*** in the excitement of the hand, Rafi said a banned four-letter word of the sort that is not taken lightly over here (possibly upon discovering that this hand hadn't actually secured him the victory).  The penalty - to be away from the table for 10 minutes, while Vinny just absorbs his blinds.  There's been a lot of protest from shouty friends, and the decision is appealed - the tournament director stands firm, and the mouthy protestor is escorted from the premises.

Barely concealed animosity between tournament director and now seriously over-excited-looking Rafi (on 1,379,000, with Vinny now on 286,000), as he insists on a break to sort his chips out, having been standing a few feet away watching his blinds drift out, while trying to get the dealer to 'shuffle more'.  A crowd has suddenly formed as if drawn by the tension, and this will surely have broken the slow spell of earlier tonight.

Cheers everyone for congratulations for Simon Trumper - I am sure he's delighted to have so many supporters, and we all wish him luck in further events

WOW - the temperature is indeed rising as Vinny Vinh seems to join the losing-the-plot club, suggesting they make it winner-takes-all, and telling Rafi "You need to play twenty more years to play PL with me!"  No deals, says the harried tournament director.  How exciting.

So far the chip lead is still firmly with Rafi, having taken down a 200,000 pot, although V.V. insists he's confident he can win.  I'm not sure how traditional it is to have a cheer-louder popularity vote at this stage of a tournament, but it's all gone a bit weird down here.

In response to the question, Vinny got about 100,000 in blinds.

Cheers!  Running on fumes and coffee but it's all got so interesting suddenly.....

Slight correction - I implied that the crucial house vs house hand got all the chips in on the turn, but actually they were all in on the flop when Vinny only had three 8s.

There was another all-in pot on the board of 2h 5h 6c Js, where both players had flopped the straight with 3 4, but Vinny was freerolling the hearts.  A non-heart King on the river split this potentially damaging hand.

Amazingly, tempers have been brought under control... it's now 3.15am local time and Vinny is slowly clawing chips back - latest count puts him around 400,000.  A couple of interesting hands got to the river, such as the Q 4 3 3 6 board from which Rafi had turned the full house, and Vinny rivered the straight with a 2 5.  Rafi checked the river, Vinny bet 70,000 and he just flat called....

Blinds 8000 16000, going up in ten minutes.

Just a note that the tournament director, named Jack Effel, has had to deal with all the temper tantrums and pass down firm but consistent judgements on this final table and has been doing it non-stop these past many hours.  He is also a pretty deadpan MC for the final table and sounds like he's seen it all...and probably has.  It is good to have someone announcing what is happening as a lot of backs are in my way now that the players threated fireworks.  Pity there are no cameras.

RAFI AMIT PL OMAHA CHAMPION!

Vinny raised, preflop and was called by Rafi.  The flop of Js 2s 7 started a raising war initiated by Vinny's bet of 82,000 which led Rafi to raise pot and then suddenly their hands were on their backs:     Rafi Jd 7h 6s 10h
                                        Vinny Kd Ks 2h 5h

The turn brought the J for Rafi's full house leaving only one of 2 kings to help Vinny, and they were already shaking hands as the 8d came on the river making Vinny Vinh 2nd place finisher, winning $282,280, and young Rafi Amit the champion and walking away at last with $511,835 and the bracelet, which had been staring at them for quite some time.

Well folks, it's 03.30 here in Vegas, & we are wrecked. So it's goodnight from Jen & goodnight from the 'ol fella.

A limo is picking me up in 3 hours, and I am due to play 18 holes with Mr Colclough, Paul Maxfield, & Bracelet winner Brian Wilson. Gotta wke up first though.

A HUGE thanks to jen. She is`dead on her`feet. Some gutsy Lady.

We are out of here.
