Title: The EWSOP Vienna - Day Two LIVE UPDATE
Post by: AlrightJack on March 03, 2006, 02:24:25 PM
Day two and play has just restarted. No sign of Snoopy or Jen, which is possibly something to do with the fact that when I left the casino at 5.30am last night, they were still here and showing no signs of leaving.

...and we have our first casualty - Bullitpete has gone. He returned with 4,000 chips, determined to get them in early and either give himself a decent shout or head straight back to the hotel for some more kip - apprently he didn't get to bed until 9.45 am 'last night'.

He won a couple of small pots before getting it all in with pocket sixes. His caller, holding KQ hit trip queens and Pete, ladies and gentlemen, has left the building.

Jen and Snoopy have now entered the building. They were here until 7am, when they finally managed to coax Tikay and Yoyo away from the cash game.

Amazingly, we have some female players left in:

Nancy Aguinaga -- 2,925
Mary Ann Hayes -- 19,825
Manuela Seliger -- 28,900

It's great to see these female players being allowed to play. It's good for the game if they get a run out.

Big Chip News:

Xuyen raises preflop to 4.2k.

Damir Alidzanovic moves all-in for another 20k.

Xuyen thinks for a while.

Mr Vladar informs me that she's definitely considering the call, no oscar performance.

Indeed, after a lenghty dwell, the little lass makes the call, saying, 'I gotta gamble'.

Bad Girl = Ad Kc

but I think she had a feeling that her opponent held...

 Ahrt Ac

Board gave no excitement.

Wow.  I have been trying to get on blonde for almost an hour.  Other sites worked, and yet I was barred from the only one I care about :(

Plugging in my laptop seems to have fixed it.  Go figure.  My laptop hates me.  But for now I will give you the first post I've been trying to get on for a half hour...

Hello and welcome back for the Second Day of the PartyPoker Vienna Spring Poker Festival Austrian Poker Championship 2006.  Quite a title the winner is going to have… and as you all know it is Bad Girl who starts day 2 in pole position, looking comfortable if not quite awake yet at the table.

Already a few of the shorter stacks have been eliminated:
Isaac Magolas
Pete Haslam
C. Kusch
Konst Sobol
Mike Noble
Travis Fox

So we just managed to rush round identifying the large number of local and American players before they all start seat hopping.  A BIG thankyou to Thomas Kremser, who understands the deep need we updaters have for player lists by seat position!

James Browning too, it appears, showed up a little on the tardy side, but everyone else appeared on time.  Even those who were still in the cash game at 7am while Snoops and myself were slumped over our bar tables jabbing at our keyboards at random...

Spotted today was El Blondie being filmed at his own private table, like a one man sit'n'go.

With around 80k, Stockinger is now leading the way.

Come on guys, pick a winner.

My Dad's called Peter Goulding and my dentist is Peter gould, so I think I should go for Peter Gould, even though he's a shortstack.

Must be an omen.

A Snoopy pint (which is a cheap half) for any correct answers.

Stuart Fox is down to less than 10,000 after a rather fascinating hand against Vanja Senic.  I caught up with them on the turn with a board of 4c 3h 8h 9c.  There was 12k in the pot, and Vanja checked in the small blind.  Stuart in mid-position bet 6,000 - call.
The river: 3s.  Vanja checks again, and Stuart bets 8,000 (more than two thirds of his opponent's stack).  After a long dwell and a bit of quiet thinking out loud, he is called.
Stuart holds:  Aspades Qs
Vanja holds:   Ad Kh  and takes the pot.

A couple of other counts from the present:

James Browning   25,000
Nate 'the Hair'     36,625  (I am still rooting for him, he was very friendly)
Simon Hennessey 20,100
Steve Jelinek        5,075
David Bagheri       48,500
Kevin O'Leary       17,800
Bad Girl               25,000
Stuart Fox            8,400

6 whole Irish players left in... and you're right, Len Collin's doing the best with around 60k, although Mike Magee has climbed to 30k after starting with a littlish stack.  And I didn't cheat at all to get this information.

I have a bit more detail about Bad Girl's early loss - she played  8s Ts and got a call preflop from K2.  The flop came which hit her opponent's two pair, but gave her the flush draw, and she just couldn't let it go... not too expensive, and she doesn't look rattled, although obviously annoyed at herself.  I advised pretending she had just gotten there with 26k, but it's much easier to say that kind of thing than start afresh after an early loss.  Tough one.

Guys,

This tournament is as good as over, especially now that Foxy is in the deep stuff.  :(

I have seen Siegfried Stockinger play and he is just awesome. With a big stack he is even better.

He is the finest 7 Stud player that we have here in Austria, but he can put a terrific read on just about anybody and is rarely wrong.

It is a race for 2nd place now, I'm sad to say.

Mike

From what I've heard, it may be difficult to disagree with you on this 1.

All the homegrown players here are bigging up Stockinger and saying what a cracking player he is.

I believe he's a smashing Omaha player too.

Been on a Big Chip Hunt -

And your fellow Stockinger has a great 77,000
Also deep stacked are Alex Kravchenko  53,000
Sebastian Skuja  85,500
Roman Yitzhaki   83,000
Mark Bartlog      66,000
Thomas Rasmussen  56,000

I think those are the table chip leaders at the moment - if it looks like they're going to continue in this fashion might need to post some pics.

Stuart Fox has doubled up his 5.5k shortstack.

Made his move with Q-7.

Called by pocket eights, but Stuey hit two pair.

He was very proud of his suck out when I went over and was grinning like a Cheshire Cat.

Alive and kicking.

Simon Hennessey doubled up with  Qs Qh -

A tight player raised in early position to 2k, got a raise from another guy in middle position, and Simon decided that it was now or never and pushed with his Queens for 13,500.  The initial raiser folded AK suited, but the second guy had to call with  Ac Jh.
Flop:  Kd Qd Ts  It wasn't looking so great for Simon here.
Turn:  6c  He was probably about to stand up here.
River:   Th  He was happier now he had 30,000.

And sums up the hand nice and simply, "I found pocket tens under the gun, and decided to go all in.  The big blind had Aces, and decided to call."

Short and sweet story there.  He's having a short rest before presumably plunging into the Omaha game at Pokerworld (that sounds like the place he inhabits in his head).

Thanks Dewi for your response to the chip-protector-quiz... going to keep you all hanging for a few more minutes (while I go eat ice cream with a certain Jon Raab) but before I go, here are the fruits of my last scouting...

They've coloured up the green 25 chips (finally, after what seems like aeons of play) and the shorter stacks are more visible - nowhere to hide behind those green towers any more.  Like our friend Nate Keeley who is down to 15,000.

Cagey Play Of Big Slick News Now -

Manuela Seliger raised to 2,200 in mid position, and found Len collin re-raising out of the big blind to 6,000.  After a few minutes, she called.  The flop was Qd Jh Js, and when he bet out 10k, she couldn't fold her  Ahrt Kh face-up fast enough.

Then Mark Bartlog raised to 2,400 and after a lot longer called the buttons re-raise to 8k.  The flop: 9s 4d 7h.  check check.
Turn: 3s  check check.
River: Ac (deep breath) check check.

Mark flipped over  Ac Kh which ended up in front of the button's  Aspades Ts.

ruddy interesting hand news now.

Mateyboy moved all-in on a raggedy flop with two hearts.

Thinking the other guy had called, he flips over his Ahrt Kh

This was a slight faux-pas however as his opponent hadn't actually announced call.

Big TK bowls in to clarify the rules.

The hand isn't dead, but mateyboy can still call.

He dwells for a while, the crowd er... crowd (good English) around the table.

Eventually he calls showing pocket fours.

They hold up and he wins the pot.

From what I understand, the pock fours were underdogs, which is interesting.

If he hadn't seen the cards though, he may well have folded.

I've never seen someone think so long though after seeing their opponent's cards.

Quick word on the 90 minute clock.

RED-DOG didn't think it was too slow, but doesn't see too much difference between the 1 hr clock and the 90 min one. Given the choice, though, he'd rather take the 90 min clock.

Chunkymick grew up on 20 minute clocks and so found it hard to adjust.

I exit early whatever the clock, so my view is irrelevant.

Quote from RED: 'I like this chinese bird with the big knockers, but I'm a leg man really.'

I'm yet to look as it will seem too obvious. I'll have a glance through the reflection in the tv screen.

Tom says he's not particularly big on boobies.

I don't see to much difference but, as with the the clocks, I'd rather take the big ens.

ruddy interesting hand news now.

A brief modification on this hand.

The A-K raised preflop, and turned his hand over, not realising that the big blind had called.

With a rag rag flop and two hearts, the guy with pair of fours decided to move all-in.

Not the best of moves really as the A-K can't make any more betting action and is bound to call the bet with the flush draw and two overcards. He should have waited to the turn and, if the A-K missed, then make the move so the A-K doesn't have the pot odds to call.

BTW - I don't think you've ever posted the prize structure..... to work.

Hello Mum - we have slowed to a slug-like pace as the last 41 realise that they could be among the 27 who get paid from this event.  It is quite possible that the hectic flurry of eliminations seen earlier will pretty much stop now and they might well get through all 6 levels scheduled for play today, rather than whittling themselves down to three tables nice and quickly.  Not that there's any need for all but the shortest stacks to really go for it, as the long clock is still there, and the blinds just 300 - 600.

Title: Re: The EWSOP in Vienna Day Two - Live Update

Level 10
600/1200(100)
35 mins left
Next Level = 800/1600(150)

41 players remaining.

I believe we're playing down to 27 (3 tables) which is where the money starts flowing.

I'm afraid it looks like he's a gonna.

If I remember rightly, he had a cap with a cross on it and a t-shirt with two cards with little stick men.

He had a nice hefty stack earlier on, but he must have encountered a few accidents.

Big old hand after twenty numbing minutes of raise-fold preflop play...

Manuela Seliger, the deepest stacked lady so far, raised to 6k from mid position.  There was a flat caller in the middle, and when it got round to Len Collin in the blind he said "raise" but didn't push enough chips into the middle to make up the minimum raise.  This he was forced to make (despite wishing to make it 14k) and they saw a flop threeway.  It was:
9c 8d 3s.  Len immediately pushed all-in for his whole large stack.  Manuela almost as immediately moved in too.  The third player immediately folded.
Len showed Td Jc   Manuela showed 9h 9s  and the straight didn't straighten.

Big old 70k hit to Len's stack - I can see Tom looking grim...

Jim Kerrigan is out.

He had 82k after the last break, about double the average stack.

Pocket tens, he raises 6,000. Guy moves all in over the top for another 28k to call. Any other player he would pass to but he describes hi oppo as a panic merchant. So he calls. His Spanish opponent has pocket fives.

Flop... 4d 6c 7h

Turn 8s...

Suddenly half of Barcelona descends and no 5 on the river means Jim loses the pot and almost half his stack.

The next chapter in Jim's demise follows shortly.

Post by: AlrightJack on March 03, 2006, 10:58:13 PM
Three hands later Jim is in the sb. Its folded round to him. He looks down to find Kd Jd

He raises 3,000 with another 37,000 left behind.

BB calls.

Flop 4c Ks 7h

He trap checks his top pair. BB bets 3,000.

Jim reraises another 9,000.

His quiet oriental opponent pushes all-in.

Its only 5,000 for Jim to call, so its a compulsory one, but the alarm bells couldn't be ringing any louder, according to Jim (he's beginning to smile now as he's telling me this one)

The oriental guy turns over his inevitable pocket sevens and after a blank turn and river Jim is sitting with 21k left and a silly, if somehwat disgruntled look on his face.

One of a trio of friends who journeyed here for the EWSOP (and the shortest stack all day) has made quite a comeback - pictured here one of his friends gave his name as Santi but not being on the list I will verify when he's not listening to his ipod!

Anyway, Len Collin raised with  Ad Js, and this fellow moved in with  Th Td.  There was again a very excited band of watchers as the flop brought the Jack, but the turn the 10 for a set and a double through.  And the crowd went wild!  Well, perhaps not the Irish crowd, but at least a crowd.

A new man challenging for the chip lead is Tim Miles who has climbed up to 161.5k.

He has the biggest pile of chips, but just the one blue 5k chip.

His last hand saw him call an all-in move with Kd Aspades. His opponent flipped over 7d 7h and was relatively happy with the 5d 5h Qh flop.

The 8d turn was also a blank, but he looked gutted when Miles spiked the Ks on the river.

part 3 of the Jim Kerrigan saga...

His big blind is called by an early position raiser. Two of them in the pot. This guy has been annoying Jim for a while - shouts when he wins pot, no grace, in short he's French.

Jim is holding Jc 5h

Flop Aspades 2c 5d

checkity check

Turn is 6s

checkity check

River Ad

Jim checks, French guy raises 4k.

Jim then asks him 'do you have sixes?'. To his astonshment he says no, I've got an ace but I'm worried about my kicker, its only a ten.

'RULING'!

Big TK saunters over. Jim asks him, 'this player has just declared his hand to me'

Protestations abound, everyone has an opinion. The eventual ruling after 10 mins or so of deliberation is that he has broken the rules by declaring the hand, but because he didn't know the rules, TK rules that the bet stands. But, if Jim calls and he has got AT, the French guy will suffer a penalty, although the penalty is not specified.

TK says he has ruled against Jim because he has tricked this player into declaring his hand.

Jim passes. No action is taken. The hand is not shown.

Nearly over, I promise....

For the elimination of the 38th and 37th place, the atmosphere suddenly got all rowdy, with shouts of "Yes!" and "Arggh" so loud that lots of people just standing at the bar started drifting over anticipating something like a fight.  But it was the victors making the noise as short stacks doubled or exited.  Perhaps the tension in the room may start to rise above tepid (if tension is describable in heat words) as they approach the money.

Part 4

Jim is down to 17k and the verbal between him and the French guy from part 3 continues and escalates over the course of the next few hands, until the French guy makes an utg all in raise with 28k on Jim's small blind.

Jim calls instantly. The big blind swiftly gets out of the way. The Frenchie turns over A8 off, '"slamming it down like its the absolute nuts"

Rather slowly but not rolly Jim turns over his pocket aces and "as only a french person could" shouts out loud

"give me a straight"

"Don't beg" retorts Jim, which sends the French guy berserk.

No straight appears and now they have swapped stacks.

2 hands later the French guy gets knocked out and after leaving the table comes back and asks Jim

"I want to know what your name eez!"

To which Jim replied "They call me Jimmy Vegas"

"I remember you Jimmy Vegas, we will meet again" says the French guy, wagging a finger.

At which point the dealer says "Oi Jimmy Vegas, where's your ante?"

Blimey, there's more to come....

I heard exactly the other side of this story from the friends of the Spanish guy (I think one of us has the wrong nationality, but I'm pretty sure) -

He apparently thought anything could be said at the table, especially as he was encouraged to talk about his hand, and the fact that he told (ostensibly) the truth and was about to get punished for it incensed his supporters, who ended by saying "We don't think you should say anything like this at the table anyway.  It's not sportsmanlike."  So they're both wrong...?

Part 4

Jim is down to 17k and the verbal between him and the French guy from part 3 continues and escalates over the course of the next few hands, until the French guy makes an utg all in raise with 28k on Jim's small blind.

Jim calls instantly. The big blind swiftly gets out of the way. The Frenchie turns over A8 off, 'slamming it doen like its the absolute nuts' Rather slowly but not rolly Jim turns over his pocket aces and 'as only a french person could' shout out loud

"give me a straight"

"Don't beg" retorts Jim, which sends the French guy berserk.

No straight appears and now they have swapped stack.

Great story Jon  rotflmfao

Nate Keeley is OUT.

Eliminated by Mary Ann Hayes.

I didn't quite see what Nate had, but there was an ooh from the table on when the river 5 joined a board of 9-6-A-K.

With Hayes holding 9-4, I can't quite work out what he had. Pair of fours or sixes maybe?

Mary Ann Hayes is fairly lucky to still be in after her all-in A9 beat David Bagheri's AQ when she was nearly down to the felt... she knows that, though, and it looks like that bit of good fortune has given her a kind of kick start.

Part five of the 5 part trilogy and to cut a short story long, one round later Jimmy Vegas makes a substantial raise in early position, about 6,000 of his 28k stack with Ac Jc

Its folded to the Spanish pocket fives guy on the button. He puts JV all in.

Folded to Jim, who asks him as a joke "have you got pocket sixes?"

Based on previous Jim made a reluctant but confident call and finds himself up against pocket tens.

Flop 3d 4c Jh

Jim then makes a bit of mistake and celebrates early, shouting "yes", which he puts down to playing with too many French people recently.

The turn is of course the Tc.

"Manuel goes through the roof"

A blank on the river but Jim says he refused to beg for his card. He's knocked out and as he exits stage right his vanquisher says

"Its been a pleasure to play with you Jimmy Vegas"

To which Jim replies "Indeed, the pleasure has been all yours, next stop Monte Carlo"

End of story.

Postcript, Jim qualified for this online, as he has done for Monte Carlo and btw he has already won two wsop packages.

But the irony is that a traditional Spanish deck of cards has 48 cards...no tens...

The Break Fanfare has resounded - only one more level of play tonight, unless they are down to 27 before it's over.  In that case we all go home early and come back tomorrow.  But I rather think it's going to enter another 5mph zone now.

32 players remaining

Level 12
Blinds = 1000/2000(200)

On a side note, tikay, RED-DOG, John Hewston, and Julian are playing cash together.

Blimey, what a fishy table. Get me on there!

And the ridiculous beginning-of-level Dramatic Music is playing.  Sounds like when boxers get into an arena.  They need a laser show to go with it.

Anyway, you've probably forgotten about Mark Bartlog's chip stack protector, but I just wanted to get a closeup as I think it's rather nice.  He's probably more interested in the chips beneath, though, I reckon.

Another saga for you...

Part 1:

Irishman Len Collin raises preflop with Q-T.

Mateyboy reraises around 20k with A-K.

Len announces call.

Both players simultaneously flip their cards over.

No help arrives, and Len is out...

until someone notices 300 chips on the felt that everyone else had missed.

As both hands were exposed, it is declared that neither player could make action and therefore the hand would have been checked out. Therefore, the hand stands, but Len is still in with his 300.

Title: Re: The EWSOP in Vienna Day Two - Live Update
Post by: snoopy1239 on March 04, 2006, 12:14:40 AM
Part 2:

The very next hand, Len chucks in his 200 ante leaving him with 100, which he shoves in blind.

2 other players

The dealer deals the flop, but their seems to be 4 cards, a cheeky little 3 tucked underneath an A-J-T flop.

Their has been no action  and the flop is declared a misdeal. The dealer mucks those cards and deals out another flop, which turns out to be 3-2-2.

The hand is checked down.

Mateyboy #1 = A-T (2 pair on the misdealt flop, but just ace high on the second)

Mateyboy #2 = T-T (trips on the misdealt flop, but just a pair of tens on the second)

Len Collin = 3-2 (3 high on the misdealt flop, but full house on the second)

Len finds a miracle.

Title: Re: The EWSOP in Vienna Day Two - Live Update
Post by: snoopy1239 on March 04, 2006, 12:16:48 AM
Part 3:

Len moves in yet again.

Once again, there are two other players eager to check the hand down.

We reach a river on a board of Ahrt 9s 4s 8c 3h

Mateyboy #1 bets 5k, Mateyboy #2 beats the table in frustration and folds.

Mateyboy #1 = 5s 2h

Len Collin = 4c 6h

Rivered.

The dream comeback is over and Len Collin is OUT

I think...

Only 45 minutes left for someone to dive off the bubble platform... which is looking like it may not even happen.  Hand for hand (which I am sure is Thomas Kremser's absolutely positively favourite part of every deep-stack tourney) - and they're not willing to go for it.  Only a muppet would gamble at this stage ;)

The closest we've come is the rather surly Mr. Turrisi raising about a third of his short stack, getting a very long dwell from the player two to his left, and then a pass round (blinds are 1k - 2k, 200 ante, and his raise was to six).  When the big blind passed, he flipped his  Ac Ad violently over on the table, saying "s - t" in at least two languages.  Not best pleased then.  Would hate to see what would happen if his Aces were called and outdrawn on the bubble.

part 3 of the Jim Kerrigan saga...

Just catching up with the thread, but calling for a ruling here is pretty much angle shooting. If you didn't want him to reply AT don't ask him what his hand is!
