Title: Brighton Festival Were Off
Post by: Belgariad on July 05, 2005, 09:23:11 PM
Great fun getting back down to Brighton and seeing all the regulars. Nothing changes down there apart from the staff.

Great tournament it was a 50PL rebuy and we got 2500 starting chips... yep i could not believe it either finally a great structure comp and not the usual crap shoot. Really looking forward to the rest of the week.

I was chip leader on my table with about 20k no rebuys, seemed to be playing well and put in a few nice plays to build my stack. No real monster hands till I move to the new table and I find KK. Only two people on the table have me covered the guy under the gun and one other. The guy under the gun raises 3k blinds 600 - 1200 I find KK and the rest is history... of course he has AA.

Mel was down to 2k at the end of the re-buys well below average and not very positive but with the top up she was in faily good shape. Next time I see her during a short break she has 30k picked up a few nice hands and doubled through a couple of times. I was knocked out about 1 hour later go to watch her play. She is on 30k still but by then the blinds are faily big. She moves upto about 70k just from taking the blinds and calling all in's on the BB where there is a small all in raise.

When down to 10th she took the small stack all in 4 times and he survived every time

1st time AQ Vs A9 - Turn 9
2nd 10 10 vs A 6 - Flop 6 6 Turn A River Blank
3rd AJ Vs K 4 - Flop K
4th cant remember but by then it was getting silly...

She still managed to stay around 70k by picking up a few blinds and keeping her chips moving... blinds now 4k 8k and the low stacks were really feeling it mel was in 2nd.

Finally somone goes out after KK vs KQ all in pre flop the Q makes a 4 flush.

Final yay minimum at this stage 240

There was talk of a deal 12 handed 1k each but the chip leader turned it down. Get down to 9 more talk but nothing agreed.

After a mad first round the blinds creaping up there are two gone and they agree to min 1k each and play for the rest 1st 3k 2nd 2k everyone else 1k ....
One other goes out and after a few bad beats and everyone fairly level in chips they decided to chop it.

Got an evening off tonight so putting feet up.

Tomorrow the 100 rebuy that should be huge value and with the amount of chips we got for the 50 i'm expecting a lot of play.

Brighton is such a refreshing change from the recient comps I have played at gutshot. The players are so friendly and you get lots of chips.

I'm not expecting many runners for the 750 freezeout at the end of the week although they are running a sattalite in the afternoon on Thursday I think. The 300 freezeout is expected to be busy with the locals saying there will be approx 100 runners... i'm not convinced there will be that many but should be another great event.

Will keep you all updated going to get back to Declan now see you all soon.  Well done again Mel nice result for first event down there, looking good for the rest of the week.  Sorry cant do live updates as I dont have laptop.

Eugene

I was wondering what to make my first post.

Guess it had better be sorry  ;D  as I was the guy with the AA.

Nice for me, but not very sporting when the other two showed their folded K's  :(

What goes around comes around, as I went out in 12th when my JJ ran into -

you guessed it AA.

Mark

Nice maiden post Stac, & welcome to blonde.

The dream match up eh? - AA v KK. Lovely! But as you thoughtfully remind us, tough for the player with KK.

Lets hope we get some more reports from the Brighton Festival.

MrMoves came 4th for 3,200. Brilliant play. I won't mention my helping hand to him after two hours which put me out!

I am not sure who the three left in were but hopefully someone will enlighten us.

Back from Brighton.... so much to catch up on. Looks like it is been a fun session in LV

How did Brighton go Robert, full sp please

Well: I met up with Jo, Malc_M and Paul (aka Marra (!?!)). We all had a go at the Super Sat for tomorrows (err today's) 750. I wasn't making any headway coming towards the end of the rebuy period and saw a one and only STT for the same prize getting booked up quickly, went all in , busted out and got the final seat by skin of teeth, (we couldn't put our name down for the STT if we were still in the main Sat) . Jo and Marra gut busted out of the Sat soon after and were giving a new blackjack dealer palpitations after that. I got knocked out of STT when trying a cheeky on Paul Davis's big blind, I am sure there is something in the rules that if someone wants to nick the big blind the latter can't fire KK back at the potential thief, just not cricket. Anyway Malc_M gets kicked out on the bubble of the main Sat. Viv Williams was also in the Main Sat and got himself kicked out to join the STT. Viewers will remember Mr Williams from the Walsall final table ( http://www.blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=673.msg16543#msg16543 ).

The main attraction was to be the Sat for the VC Cup but the sponsors had seemingly been a little mean and there was just a single seat, winner takes all sort of thing. So, for a bit of fun, we travel of to the Grosvener and play in the the 10 rebuy Pot Limit. I met Mel and Eugene for the first time as we were leaving. Hwoever I should add that I did make use of the massuesse that Vic Chandler had laid on for over stressed poker players. ;D

In the Grosvenor we saw a couple of faces from the Rendezvous, including Mr Williams, who had been dismantled and rebuilt here. Actually we had a fun time and weren't taking it to seriously, at the break a chap says "Are you lot from Blondepoker?", it was Maroon, (hi Maroon). We all got knocked out eventually, not sure what happened to Jo or Malc as they were on another table, I had the joy of facing Viv across the table, no man has ever stared so hard into my eyes in Brighton before, but I didn't think he wanted a date! First he doubled me up when I had AAs and then, after raising the pot on three successive occasions and taking his small then big blind, he put me all in with my 10s and his Aces didn't improve, neither did my 10s however. Marra also fell to Viv's patented chip remover.

Hope to get back tomorrow, probably not to play but to email updates to ironside.

Was good to put faces to screen names.  :)

First time at the Grosvenor for me.  Usually play at the Rendevous.

Highlight of the night for me was when a player, who managed to amass a substantial chip stack on a very good run of pairs that stood up 99% of the time, had everyone fold preflop except Robert.  Flop comes 8-8-3.  Robert stares at newcomer and says in a jovial voice "Have you got the 8?"  After looking a bit confused the guy says to the table "Do I have to tell him?"  :o

Great night.

1. It was worth a try  ;D
2. Why did somebody say "no you don't have to tell"?
3. Why did he not give the info when I promised to keep it between him and me?

It was great that when you asked only then did he check the flop!  He was short term luck at it's most extreme.  He seemed to have a great time so that was good.
