Title: POKERSTARS.COM EPT GRAND FINAL -- MONTE CARLO DAY 3
Post by: AlrightJack on March 10, 2006, 12:30:30 PM
Here we are for day three. Was a pretty late night yesterday for us here in updaters corner. We were the last three to leave the building and only did so because the security guards chucked us out. Anyway, as Flushy and Snoops are still emerging from their slumber, I am taking the liberty of starting the thread.

Dunno if I'm being a bit dense, but what's the significance of the players in bold? I think I've worked out that the blonde players are Blonde players, and you've told us the blue ones are Caledonian, but what about the bold?

Dustin Dirksen has doubled up Ross Boatman.

Dustin raised 9k, Ross pushed all in.

Dustin called instantly with queens.

Ross had Aces.

Ross looks to be making moves. A few hands before Dustin raised and Ross moved in over the top, Dustin was forced to pass.

Just a few quick words about yesterday...

A big thumbs up to Jen for her performance. I've been running around like a headless chicken for the last few days, but being able to follow Jen's progress, especially as one of the chip-leaders, has enabled me to continue in full flow even though the petrol tank was empty. When she finally exited, I was pretty deflated and all the energy was sapped out of my body. I think I was more gutted for her than I have been for any of my bad beats or tourney exits. It's one of those 'so close, yet so far' things, I really thought she could win this whole damn kaboodle. Aah well, I think she has proved that she is more than capable of competing with the big boys and that sooner or later she'll scoop a massive prize.

Chessa's exit hand:

He moved all-in preflop with pocket fives. Radu Buton called with pocket nines.

9 on the flop sealed his fate.

We are on the bubble and Martin Wendt pushes all in, he is called by the big blind.

On their backs!

Martin Kc 9c
Mateyboy Jh Jd

Flop 5s 2c 3c

The flop was greated by a big 'ooooo'

Turn 2h

River 7c

Martin makes his flush and doubles up!

I can name 27 unhappy people about that river.

Just seen the most amazing bubble hand.

John Kabbaj and mateyboy see a flop of Td 6d 4d

John bets 20k, Mateyboy puts all his chips over the line (another 40k) and turnes his hand over!!!  Ad 7d

Rulling is called for, the rulling is the hand is still live but he has a 10 minute penalty after the hand. John clearly passes, but says "i would have called" as he shows his Kd Ts

Thats 1 way to avoid the bubble!

John then said "if i don't win the tournament now..."

did he think joihn was all-in or did he think he could have two pair or a set and didnt want an outdraw on the bubble? - good job it wasn't sheffield - he would have lost the pot for turning his hand over.!!!

Just a quick note.

Mateyboy in this hand was Thomas Wahlroos.

According to Flushy, Matyeboy always does well in the early stages, sometimes even chip-leader after Day 1, but rarely cashes. Mateyboy NEVER wins an event.

Not sure, Junior. I'll ask Flushy as he witnessed the hand.

A whole host of people crowd round table 3 like flies around er... well...

Anyhow, we had an all-in.

Thierry Cazals = Ahrt 3h

Matthew Davey = 7c 7s

Board = 4c 3s Ts Th 8c

The Irishman doubles up and is back in the game with around 45k.

did he think joihn was all-in or did he think he could have two pair or a set and didnt want an outdraw on the bubble?

I thought that at first, pushing away the 2 pair.

However he doesnt look like a stroke puller, i think it was a mistake, he looks very nervous and un-natural at the table.

If it had been say Marcel Luske then yes thats what i would think.

Irishman Matthew Davey doubles up yet again.

Ladies v pocket eights.

Davey's walking in the air when he sees the snowmen.

Blanks on the flop

He's now jumped up to 80k.

The Great Irish Hope is STILL in.

Thats what i want to do but there are just too many people near by.

Another quote from Marcel....mateyboy (i am calling him mateyboy till we are down to 27) raised UTG to 10k, with 30k back, all fold and he shows his 89 off suit.

Marcel says "i dont know your name but if you keep doing that we will call you mr 28"

All-in preflop.

Alain Bilodeau = T-T

Frode Fagerli = J-7

Flop of 9-7-K offered some hope, but the 3-A turn and river didn't.

One of the dealers just asked Marcel for some 1000's to colour up for some 5000's, Marcel replied, simply, "no"

Anyone else think this is plain bad behaviour?

No and I doubt Marcel was rude either, he just wants to have a mountain of chips to make it harder for people to figure out the size of his stack, he has earned the chips doesnt he have the right to decide what denominations they are in?

Peter Gould is OUT

Peter raised 17.5k from the button, Mark Teltscher moved all-in, Peter called.

'Have you got a big hand?' asked Mark before expsoing his cards.

Peter Gould just nodded.

Gould = Td Tc

Mark Teltscher = Jc Ad

Mark seemed pretty relieved to be involved in a coin flip.

First card ace.

Board = Aspades 4s 6c 6d 9d

do you get time to play a sng or two Snoops and Flushy?  I don't mean the large entry fees necessarily, but is it all work out there?

Snoopy got one in the day we arrived but sadly we havent really had the chance, they have been VERY long days, if they are done early tonight then we might sneak a couple in.

They are his chips. If they are needed for change then Marcel would oblige but colouring up is a different matter. Unless the 100s are being taken out of play then  he has the right to refuse to colour up.

Exactly. it's a pointless thing to do, as everyone knows what you are doing it hardly kids anyone.

JP, you're allowed to still want to have loads of little chips to build towers with, you'll grow out of it eventually....  ;scarymoment;

I prefer to keep lower denom chips, and have opted out of a colour up before. However i did it with a "please can you not colour me up just yet" maybe a more polite approach is better....

I hate my little chips being taken too but if he has the majority of the small chips and no-one else will change either then surely the dealer has the right to change chips with the player who has the most (i.e. Marcel).

It's would be better if they just coloured up when there is a pot going imo.

They werent wanting change greg they were wanting to colour up (ie take chips off the table). The Tda rule that comes into play is a ten stack rule. No player is allowed to have more than 10 sepearate stacks of chips in front of them as it takes up too much of table. If 10 chipstacks is exceded then colouring up must take place (rules are ridiculous arent they)- they did enforce this rule at the aussie millions and the only player who took the hump with it was Phil Ivey who was chip leader at the time and seemed to have half the table covered by his stack.

I managed to build a very intricate pyramid in dublin containing around 60k in chips. I left 3k at the side as the blinds were only 200 400 and a scandi opened  the pot for 3300. He laughed as I dwelt that I would have to break my pretty pile so I just said allin instead. He couldn't call quick enough with his AQ and was horrified when I turned my aces over.... stroke or not?? you decide lol

Looking at the updates is better than walking 5mins to watch it live.

I watched some of the 20k sit and go last night and they were all nodding their heads at the prospect of a 50k version tonight and maybe a 100k on saturday a quote from hatchem 'winner takes more than the main event'. Noah Boaken seemed to be doing the organising. I was very impressed with greg raymer's play and knowledge of the game, he put some cocky scando's in their place by explaining some complex stuff.

Go blondes.

Woody Deck is not in

He hasn't been in this comp for ages

Woody is short for Woodrow. Woodrow is a popular American forename, particulrly amongst those born in the 1930s-1950s because of former American president Woodrow Wilson

I will shortly ring Woodrow's parents to ask them why they chose to call their son Woodrow. I hope they will accept my reverse call charges request.

Other famous Woody's include Woody Harrelson and Woody in toy story (another 1950s reference, the toy orignally being a product of that era)

Woody Deck perhaps sounded better than Corey Deck, Taylor Deck, Page Deck and George W Deck, all of which Mr Edgar and Mrs Courtney Deck considered before that fateful day in 1980 when they left the Woodrow Wilson Memorial hospital in Pennsylvannia clutching a mewling baby, looked at the sign and though "AHA Woodrow it is"

Junior, any further requests for pro bono research via PM please

Spoke to Terry 'sausage' Halliday in the last break. He's on about the 100k mark. He was surprised at all the support he's received on the forum because in his words "I hate them all"

He says, if he wins, don't bother trying to nip off him.  :D

colour ups are rubbish- just leave them on the table - looks better that way.

The trouble with that is that some players insist on paying their blinds with the smallest denomination chips.

This can make it harder work for the dealer and slow the game down.

OK, quiz time.

1) who will be chip leader going into the final?
2) name 3 other players who will make the final
3) what time will the 9th player be eliminated?

Winner gets a Blue Square something or another - fleece, t-shirt, whatever we have left.

I have managed to prise these off some of the players involved though:

Jeff Williams -- 350k
Ben Grundy -- 350k
Aleksander Strandli -- 150.3k
Arshad Hussain -- 130.4k
Thomas Wahlroos -- 174k

Can I ask the obvious daft question - do these people carry big pocketsful of wonga to play these games, or are they considered "good for it" - ie they will send the winner a cheque when they get home .

If that is the case I might come over for one :)

Jen's prising us out of our seats and luring us towards the bar for a beer.

Duty calls I'm afraid.

3pm start (Monte Carlo Time) on the morrow.

Be there or be square.

Down to 10, we lose 1 more player then go 9 handed, then lose 1 more for the day.

I just heard my SNG is filling, 2 more seats left in the €30,000 SNG.

Can I ask the obvious daft question - do these people carry big pocketsful of wonga to play these games, or are they considered "good for it" - ie they will send the winner a cheque when they get home .

If that is the case I might come over for one :)

boing!

And to answer the person who asked about how to carry large sums of money into the States. The safest thing to do is to contact the cage at the casino you wish to play at and arrange a money transfer from your bank.

No need to send a cheque, I think they're just transfering the money to each other's Poker Stars accounts.

well, I would agree that the service and prices at the bar are awful, truly awful. The food is mediocre, but there is good food at reasonable prices nearby, not in the venue. The lack of cash games I don't mind as I'm mainly a sit and go player myself anyway.  But for me, just being here in Monte Carlo and beingb a part of it all makes it all worth while. Value? I am the value.  :D
