Title: MAIN EVENT DAY THREE (PROPER)
Post by: Djinn on July 11, 2005, 08:18:57 PM
It's a teeny bit late starting but they're off on the third day, with only 8 players left until they're all in the money, all 560 of them.  We are wishing the UK and Irish players the best of luck, as well as the many pleasant Americans we have encountered.  I will be rushing between this and the $1500 no-limit freezeout which Tikay and Bad Girl as well as some others to be discovered are playing so please bear with me.

The tourney has been going hand for hand (imagine it  - 568 players, hand for hand) in this fashion - when a hand is completed on a table, the dealer stands up.  When all dealers are standing, they sit down again and deal another hand.  Someone suggested that the other way round might be easier to spot, but they seem to be doing OK.  While this is happening, no press (apart from ESPN, who are some kind of meta-press) are allowed in there so it's still a mystery.

Sorry, still being chased out of the Main Event area.  Someone told me to "Get behind the stanchion."  When's the last time someone said that exact phrase to you?

I know, I am a pain, but if poss can you post any news on Chris Hamlyn Atlanta, GA again.

He sent this to me earlier :

Finished the day with $49K. I was so short-stacked to the end that I had to go all-in from the big blind versus a raise and a call right in front of me. The blinds were $800-$1600 (w/ $200 antes) and I only had about $13,000 left after the blind. Bo Schlestedt called and turned over pocket 6's, which had my pocket 4's doomed until a 4 came on the flop. No 6 came and I was able to triple up after raking in the call and the blinds and antes. The board said 569 players remaining, with 560 getting paid. So 9 more till the money.

I promise I'll wear the yellow away strip tomorrow.

Thanks johnson, he'll be easier to spot when I get in there...
They are getting close to the money now with just 3 left to go.  Blinds $1000-$2000 ante $300.   The standupsitdown dealer thing means that each hand is taking about 15 minutes, and the players are all being hassled by the cameras not to do anything before it's all set up for filming.  "Don't touch your chips!" they admonish.  Crikey.

Catching a few players as they sneak out for a cigarette - Andy Black now up to a very healthy 210,000.  Quote about the bubble period, "I love it."  Told me off for agreeing with him, as there are players listening all over the place, apparently.

Really very slow out there - looks like it's going to take the whole of the blind level to shake off the last three.  Joe Beevers (last seen with about 140,000) taking a break as there's a guy raising every hand on his table with no callers and so they're just passing and waiting 10 mins per hand.

Nick Persaud who ended yesterday with 27,000 just doubled up and is around the 50,000 mark.

Going to be tough as they tend to run away or get chased by cameras and I don't want to get yelled at by understandably-annoyed ex-players.  Will do my best, though

Kinda eases the pain a little i guess he gets to do it again next year lol really he could now play every WSOP until he dies for free if he were to bubble again and again and the same deal were in effect lol

The players are now in the money following the elimination of Karl Ygborn, who was just eliminated in 561st place. All the money was in on the turn, with the board showing 10-9-7-2 and Yborn had A-10. His opponenent, 22 year old Cory Cheresnik, showed J-8, giving him the straight. The river was a King and Ygborn was eliminated out of the money. The elimination was bittersweet however, when Harrah's gave Ygborn a seat in next year's main event for being eliminated on the bubble.

Just saw this  :o

music players, cell phones, and similar items are not allowed to be used at the tables. This is a policy that has been in place throughout this year's  World Series of Poker.

Strange one huh?
it took 1 1/2hrs to play 13 hands to get into the money!!!
There is now 550 players left so folks are gambling again

Good job Jen - are you getting much sleep?

picked up this elsewhere...

John Juanda and Paul Darden got all in preflop. Juanda had Q-Q, and Darden had A-K. The flop and the turn both brought an ace, and Darden was in a commanding lead heading to the river. But the river brought a miracle, a Queen. John Juanda makes a full boat on the river, and escapes elimination by taking a huge pot away from Paul Darden. Juanda is now sitting on approximately $275,000 in chips, and Darden is down to just about $100,000.

Money level went up about 10 mins ago - they are now all guaranteed $14,135

They are on a break in 5, will try to look up the people you are asking about.

Clonie Gowan out with AQ vs AA

Barry Neville is back to 80k after losing one of those KK vs AA situations and 50k in the process.

Joe Beevers has 120k
Iwan Jones    90k
Burnley John  111k

Blinds now $1200 $2400 with a $300 ante.  There are 456 players left (at 450 the money goes to $16,055).  They have broken table 27, unfortunately Thorma, so same visual detail required r.e. Mr. Cheung.  I asked the dealer who had been on his table and he said the guy in seat 3 started with $167,000 and as it was quite slow to begin left with something similar.  If so he's in pretty good shape.

Aha Thorma I think I saw your friend earlier and he had a mountain of chips (but they're all small denom so I'll go back and have a better look)

Barry Neville         140k
Burnley John        120k
Iwan Jones            90k
Neil Channing         85k
Tiffany Williamson  400k
Nick Gibson          200k
Shane Bartholomew  220k
Robert Binelli          155k

Nick Persaud out with A 10 vs 9 9 but he'd previously taken a big hit when he re-raised an at-it all-in guy with 8 8, raced J 9 with a J on the river.

Yes I can hear Barry, actually.  He's back up to 140k but is fluctuating in increments of around 50,000.  Heard him say something along the lines of "I'd have 300,000 if I stop making daft calls."

They are instituting a press crackdown involving roped-off areas and 5-minute 'floor passes' for getting close to the tables so chip-count estimates are going to be a bit less accurate, perhaps less frequent.  Apologies in advance for anyone waiting for specific news.  You'll have to watch it on SNEP or some such.

Chris Hamlyn up to 90k after being allowed to catch runner runner flush by lack of betting (he held Q6spades).

339 players remaining in the Main Event - funny that that feels like quite a small, manageable number after the last few days.
Blinds now $1500 $3000 ante $400.
They are all guaranteed $21,070 until they get down to 300.  Been told that they are having one more level after this one and then calling it a night.

Unfortunately, the new media restrictions are making it very difficult to gather information.  I am in the process of getting an impromptu alliance of reporters who will take it in turn to circulate with the same list and use up their 5 minutes (!) with more detailed chip counts.  As it is, they aren't keeping a list of who's been in so you have to just wave your arms around until the floor police catch sight of you and line you up with a pass.  Info as soon as I can get it.  Speak of the devil (or angel):

The Grinder   500k
Raymer         550k
Pollack          600k
Phil Ivey       300k
Juanda         250k
Lee Watkinson  250k
Neil Channing    115k
Shane Bartholomew  230k
Hon Le            135k
Jose Rodrigues   120k
Denis Ethier       550k

These are among the top chips...just going to look for some more specific British guys and gals

Just saw (from the rail) Paul Zimbler double up.  Didn't see how much he had, but now he has twice that.  Details forthcoming.

Burnley John getting his moment of glory on the TV table - taking out Sam Farha and adding about 90,000 to his stack.  We estimate he's now on 250,000 or thereabouts.

Slight overestimation of John's stack - nearer the 200k mark but still good.  He says that Mr. Farha was all friendly until he saw that his stack was covered and then got a bit frosty... funny that.

Nugget - John says Hi.

Heard that Andy Black just got into some 3-way coup with AA and now has about 380,000.

Also Tiffany Williamson getting a bit of luck as her near all-in call with AQ vs AK hit runner runner for a flush and she now is among the chip leaders with 650,000 or more

Greg Amoils out in pretty grim fashion:  holding pocket 10s he saw a flop of 10 8 7 two clubs, one spade.  Somehow his opponent, when they went on their backs, had the J4spades.  Runner runner spades took him out and I caught up with him in the corridor where he was taking it well, but I have to agree with him when he says "That's not the way you want to go."

People still dropping (there are now 291 left) and at this point anyone who exits receives $24,365.  There doesn't seem to be too much reluctance to get the chips in, however, I just saw this hand play out on Garry Bush's table:  UTG raises 12,000, the player to his left re-raises 26,000 more.  They fold to UTG who pushes all-in.  Call.  UTG has AKoff and guy next to him AQ.  AK holds up and now he has 100k.

According to Tikay, Nick Gibson is "chipped up."  Barry thinks he's out, but the concensus is about 300k

Barry Neville in the break down to 80k, after "some Cockney bloke with glasses" on his left called Barry's 7-high bluff on the turn with A high, and the 7-high bluff on the river with the pair of Aces he caught.  Can't help but think that despite not being able to see the table that bloke fits the description of Channing.

Mr. Kalmar on a 350,000 stack, and Andy Black hovering around 460,000.

Burnley John on about 150k and back to his old table out of the limelight.  "Shouldn't have knocked out Farha cause they moved us back."

Joe Beevers 110k
Neil Channing  100k

Just heard that they are going one and a half levels more tonight.  Seems reasonable if they're aiming to get around 200 for the start of tomorrow.

                                                    Barry from Sheffield OUT!

Also, Burnley John OUT just now with A10 which reraised a raiser (who passed) but ran into Kings.

I reckon they are both probably in the $28,375 prize band, but even at the lowest estimate they take $24,365 for their efforts.

Bushey is in but pretty low ($40,000ish) and Tikay back in with a shot on the bubble (see thread 2, to avoid repetition....;))

It's been about an hour since the first 1,000,000 stack was spotted.  Now there are a couple of them - one of them is Raymer.  The largest denomonation is still 5000 however so these ludicrously high towers take about 10 minutes to move as the tables break (there are little mountains of plastic chip racks everywhere) and the estimate of the total chips the players have is getting rougher ("lots, really lots" "2 feet high chips" that sort of thing).

2 huge stacks just moved next to each other - Raymer and Tim Pham both over 1 mil - waiting for the fireworks

Shane Bartholomew took out Neil Channing with JJ vs 99.  He must have over 420k now.

Layne Flack out.
Only half hour or so til the Main Event breaks for another night.
190 players remaining. If they go out now, they receive $39,075

And the end is here - people flooding out in only slightly reduced numbers than they have for the past four days.  185 runners end today.

257,000 for Andy Black which puts him slightly above average chips.

Full count of UK and famous players coming tomorrow.

Not returning are the Grinder (Mizrachi), and the rather large handful of UK players who fell today (congratulations all of you), but we will update the list tomorrow with less guess-like chip-counts.  I say 'we' but Tikay might be too busy with the final couple of tables of the $1500 no-limit (did I mention this was a bracelet event?).

RE: Chris Tamlyn

I busted out. I finished in 295th place. Still had my decent stack of chips, with pocket 9's on the button. Called a 9k raise from the guy under the gun. (The blinds were $1500/$3000). Flop is T93, rainbow. He checks, I bet $10k, he calls. Next card is a 2, he checks again. I think for a good while and decide he must have an overpair. I bet $25k and he goes all-in. I call and turn over my set of 9's while he turns over his set of tens. Didn't get my other nine on the river and was basically dead at that point. My last $15k went not long after that. I've never been so disappointed to win $24,395. Oh well, maybe next year.

Only two Norwegians left now, Espen Saltnes (388k) and Kjetil Praesttun (102k).

Espen is a high-roller internet player, playing stakes $50/100 through 150/300 on Crypto. He is also the Live Texas Hold'em NL Norwegian Champion from 2004.

Kjetil also play high stakes online, his best finish live I think is 7th in this year's Party Poker Million Cruise, netting $170k. 6 people on the WPT TV table and he went out 7th...

I would be veeery happy if you guys can keep updates on these two as well as the Brits.

From 57 starting Norwegians, only 2 left, and BOTH are from Bergen (!)
