Title: Bahamas / $1,250 nl holdem / day 1 update
Post by: wsopin07 on April 01, 2006, 04:06:30 PM
We are here in the Bahamas and myself and Rod Paradise entered the $1,250 hl holdem event!

110 players entered and and they played down to 38 on the first day!

I went out in 43rd w/ about 10 minutes left in day 1, Rod is still in w/ 26k, blind structure is not very good, day 2 starts w/ 500 ante 2k 4k so it will be a real allin fest today. Ther are 1.1 mil in chips so Rod has some work to so to make the fianl table!

My exit hand is another for the books went as follows:

I have 49k w/ 500 ante and 1.5k / 3k blinds.

On the butoon I find  8c 8d w/ 1 middle limper and the big blind, 3 handed flop. I check and we take a flop of Ad 5c 6h, and everyone checks!

Turn is the  7d and it is checked to me and I bet 14.5K

Big blind folds, middle limper pushes! What do u do, u know that u probably have 10 good out if he has the  Aspades, or it may be a move!
This comp is an allin fest at this point, there will not be many flops taken at all as the average stack is 30k w/ a big blind of 3k!

What do you do w/ thsi hand?

Rod went out after 3 hands of play the 2nd day w/  Ad 8d as his final hand. The structure was poor but they are addibg levels and increasing the time for the next event. How many blondites would play satelites on win a trip to the Bahamas for a comp like this?????

crapshoots are my thing.

You played 88 like a fish. Make a decent raise pre flop!

I can always count on u flush, i love it, say it like it is, again u r 100% correct, I wanted to hit the set or fold but I lost my way after the flop. The guy had  Aspades Kd and later said he would have called any raise I made preflop :D

Rod went out after 3 hands of play the 2nd day w/  Ad 8d as his final hand.

Nearly - it was my 2nd last hand - but it was the one that did the damage.  Ad 8d, second to bet, I'd 25500 in chips ante 500, blinds 2K/4K (I was 16th out of 28 at the start of the day - so you can see why the structure wasn't too popular - as Brian says though that's been addressed). I needed to push & to do so soon - while I'd enough chips that a double through would help me. I went all-in, all folded round to the big blind, who dwelled, said "I wanted to play it cautious today, but I can't get away from this hand" then called showing  Ac Jh saying "I think you've AK but I have to take a shot".

Flop  Qc 8c 3c
Turn  9d
River  Tc
and I'm down to 2500 with 1 hand before I'm all-in blind.

I got  Ac 3d - All in, first caller is all-in for 6.5K, matey boy who'd done me calls & the chip leader calls. Flop  Ks Jc 5c
Chip leader goes all-in, matey-boy dwells again then calls - he'd  Kh Js, chip leader  Kd 6c, other all-in  4c 4d.
No miracle on turn & river & I'm out before the seat got warm.

Been second guessing whether I should have just held tight & let my chips dwindle while 8 people went out to get $1000 for 20th, might have made it, but I really wanted to make the final table and to do so with enough chips to take a shot at winning it, so I think I had to have a go.

It was a great experience and I'm just glad the holiday coincided with the tourney. If Blonde Poker can start having satellites for tourney's here I'll be playing them all.

The hotel is fantastic, as is the casino & I've got to make a mention of Swanhild, who deals with registrations & organisation for the tournaments. She's great fun & damn good company at the bar afterwards as well. A photo will follow when I get home.

Might have another bash at the cash game - now the players are away we should be left with the calling stations - even I should make money there.
