Very few, if any, economists are millionaires.

And I always thought, for some reason, that you used to work in the City!

Anyway, good post, although I have a lot of time for game theory and how maths underpins/can be used to explain decisions which, yes, can feel simply like common sense.

Anyone wanting to read even more about game theory and poker should go to the Financial Times website and search for an article titled "The poker machine".  It is a long article which centres on Chris Ferguson and his strict application of game theory maths to poker.  It also talks about how game theory is used in creating bots, which they expect to develop to dominate online play!

If you weant an enjoyble cash game, play with Jen - she & I had one of the most enjoyable times I have ever had in Poker playing a €1-€2 Cash Game in The Aviation, in Paris. On the way home, via Eurostar, we played Omaha for M & M, & I won 4 packets. And Gin Rummy - from whence "djinn" emenates - she is MUSTARD at that game, & will beat anyone pointlless.

Tikay - I remember meeting yourself and Jen in that cash game!  A very memorable game, 2005 WPT I think, my first time in the wonderful Aviation, terrific banter round the table with about 5 or 6 nationalities represented and at one point Tobey Maguire standing watching after busting out the main event.  I remember you guys joined sometime after midnight and you got dealt pocket Kings about three times in your first half hour at the table!  Also remember a memorable call with king high to win a pot off Jen...  Wink

Great job on the EPT updates Jen - keep it up!  Didn't know you were a master at gin rummy - nice comparison with Stu Ungar.  Hope to see you in some more major tourneys soon.

D'oh!  I just had to edit my post.  The correct number plate is POK 4R.  I just saw it in West George Street.

Would that be Tony G's Laz?  Think it was a black Range Rover.

I have often seen the reg "POK 4R" on a black jeep/suv style car in Glasgow city centre.  Anyone any ideas who that is?
5  Poker Forums / The Rail / Re: Las Vegas - bankroll practicalities on: July 02, 2006, 02:37:56 PM
Thanks for the quick response Matt.  I guess I'm just unused to carrying large amounts of cash.  Like you say, I try not to do it too often in Glasgow!
6  Poker Forums / The Rail / Las Vegas - bankroll practicalities on: July 02, 2006, 02:17:18 PM
Hopefully someone who's made the Vegas pilgrimage can help me out with a couple of questions on cash handling.

Basically:

1) how do you get your bankroll to Vegas?

2) how do you transport it around Vegas?

Say you're playing in the Rio and at midnight you want to check out the action at the Bellagio - I'm comfortable with the chips on the tables but not walking around with bundles of cash!?!?

Hope these questions make sense.  Maybe I'm having a  here but I can't quite figure this out!

Thanks.

Put simply. Inflation. Its rising again. We all know about Oil prices and commodity prices and how this has fed through to higher energy costs, fuel costs and has began to cramp the average consumer's disposable income.

...  ...

At last this is now impacting us.

Spot on!

... ...

Consider that 60% of the UK economy north of Birmingham is government funded. In Scotland only 600,000 people are in work. The two top ‘industries’ in the UK are financial services and tourism and PartyPoker is in the footsie 100!

What a fluffy world we live in.

Both very good posts.  Get the macroeconomics child board set up TightEnd!

We might have to have Tank checking for made up statistics though - "In Scotland only 600,000 people are in work".  C'mon!

Don't get me wrong, the public sector is far too influential in the Scottish economy, which is perhaps the general point you were making Seamus, but the public sector alone employs about 600,000 people in Scotland, with the private sector employing about 1.9m (government statistics).

In my view it's all about personal responsibility.  Just because you have a credit card with a £5k limit doesn't mean that you have to run up £5k of debt.

As an aside to Sark's original post, I get the impression that the guy who lost £150k in an hour (based on this morning's Glasgow Herald, front page) was playing online casino games rather than poker.  And supposedly he was up £90k after the first half-hour!!

there a blonde poker honest opinions board?

Lol.  Sorry, I was referring to the "Any unbiased opinions on Blonde Poker's poker room?" thread in the Internet Poker section.

I also thought this was a really interesting post.  It kind of chimes with a post I just made on the "Blonde Poker site honest opinions" board.  Maybe this is just an observation from people I know but I think more players who started playing online within the last two years or so are realising that you can be a pretty good player (if you've already spent some time developing your game) and also be profitable (or at least not loss making) without devoting massive amounts of your time to it on an ongoing basis.  (I note you focused on the time element rather than the losses).

In a way it's developing a properly recreational relationship with the game, realising that actually you are not a aiming to be a professional poker player so why are you playing every damn day!  It's supposed to be fun remember (even if it's really only fun when you're winning!).

Okay, just qualified for Team Scotland in the PokerStars World Cup.  I can get back to concentrating on the TV!

Great to see all the hands live AND have commentary on the key hands from experienced players here on Blonde...
14  Poker Forums / Live Tournament Updates / Re: Paddy Power Irish Open FINAL TABLE LIVE UPDATE on: April 18, 2006, 12:06:43 AM
Anyone want to watch a more exciting game than the Irish Open?  I'm about to go heads up for a place in the Scotland team for the PokerStars World Cup of Poker!

Just waiting on the other match to finish, 57 down to 3 now.  Tournament's been running for 3 and a half hours.  Think I've actually been playing for about 15 mins!

Any Blondes in their country's team?

Good work on the updates as usual.  Also have it on the TV.  Thought the cameramen were getting pretty bored, shots through the trophies and all that.  And I hope they clean the glass around the hole card cameras at the break!!
15  Poker Forums / The Rail / Re: High stakes poker...Season 1 on: April 17, 2006, 01:01:59 AM
Just downloaded and watched the first episode.  Great recommendation, best poker show I've seen in quite a while.

Hoping the doctor drops his $200k in the next few episodes.  And I'd love to see Negreanu and Doyle clash with almost $2m between them on the table...
