Community Forums / The Lounge / Re: A Music Thread?

I'm closer to the current music scene than I have been for a while, thanks to my 15yo daughter becoming as obsessive a gig-goer as I am. I'm following her developing music tastes with interest, and have discovered bands such as The K's (currently top of the album charts), The Lathums and Overpass, to name a few that I've watched play live with her recently. My favourite song of 2025 though remains one linked to my own musical tastes. My all-time favourite band, Carter USM, disbanded in 2014 but I still get to hear their music played live as part of lead singer Jim Bob's solo tours with his backing band. He's produced some great solo output too, of which A Song By Me is a particular favourite. Lyrically, it's absolutely fantastic, as the video done by Happy Toast highlights, and the sound is very punk-era influenced. 2 minutes 42 seconds of absolute joy! http://youtu.be/zCafaTPwN6M?si=pTs9h3hJDLRyXCVa#Invalid YouTube Link# NB: The tip about the YouTube link doesn't seem to work for me. Above has the same link both within and outside of the YouTube brackets, and the bracketed one shows as invalid.

Poker Forums / The Rail / So where does Mizrachi's achievement rank?
|
on: July 17, 2025, 09:57:32 AM

Unsurprisingly, Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi finished the job of winning the WSOP ME last night in 22 hands, after going into the final 4 with over 75% of the chips in play.
He did this in the same WSOP series in which he won the Poker Players Championship for the 4th time, which is a fairly astonishing achievement.
A few of the big name pros had made a case for him to be immediately inducted into the Poker Hall Of Fame if he won (avoiding the usual annual vote process), and this happened at the presentation ceremony.
So, in the grand scheme of things, where does this rank in terms of WSOP achievements, or any poker-related achievement?
Johnny Chan's 2 consecutive wins and a 2nd place is the often-quoted all-time best, but done in the days prior to the huge fields of almost 10k players in the Main Event. Surely Mizrachi's series has to top everything else?

Just caught up on the May updates. Happy retirement Tikay, and I hope you continue to have a blast in Vegas.
Scarily, I now qualify for senior tournaments, which shows how long we've all been hanging around on this forum over the years.
Looking forward to reading the updates. Good luck to the blondes still standing in the latest tournament.

Gene Hackman found dead at home with his wife and dog, according to reports.
A brilliant actor. I remember him best for being Lex Luthor in the original Superman films and the Sheriff alongside Clint Eastwood in Unforgiven.
95yo is a good innings, but the circumstances of his death seem odd at this stage. RIP

Thanks for all your hard work in running these leagues.
I'm tempted to try to continue them, but you're a hard act to follow. However, I'd miss them not being available.
Will see if anyone else fancies taking on the challenge, but might look to try to continue them if not.

Steve Albini, producer of too many iconic albums to mention.
"Seamonsters" by The Wedding Present is the first one that springs to mind, but most would probably know him from his work with Nirvana.
Just seen someone describe this as "Princess Diana for 6 Music Dads."
