Poker Forums / The Rail / Re: Vegas recommendations?

Flamingo is a good, cheap(ish) hotel. The rooms are fine, but nothing fancy. It also has a nice pool. More upscale (but not Venetian, CP posh/cost) options are Treasure Island (TI) and Mirage. Mirage has a nice pool and a great poker room (although the action has been declining the past couple of years I've visited). One final place to consider is MGM Grand, its not in the centre of the strip, but it does have a great poker room. It also has rooms from $50 per night: http://www.earlyvegas.com/mgm_grand_promo_codes.html. We've just got four nights in August (weeknights) for $224! They also have a couple of high scale restaurants, but they are definitely high, not high-ish. Restaurant recommendation - Restaurant at the Top of World, Stratosphere. The hotel/casino itself is pretty bad, but the top of the tower is well worth seeing. Great view (it's a rotating restaurant), very tranquil ambience and very nice food, if slightly overpriced. (Actually if you go at lunch time, it's great value).

Poker Forums / The Rail / Indirect flights to Vegas - flight change time
|
on: April 23, 2009, 08:55:12 PM

We've decided to slum it this time and plan on taking an indirect flight to Vegas this summer. The changeover is in Atlanta with 2 hours 10 minutes between the two, is this enough time? I think it's on the border of not being long enough, but does anyone else have experience with this?
TIA

I travelled up to DTD once from London to play for 3 or 4 days over a long weekend and planning to come up again very soon. I'm not too bothered about the comps as I like rebuys and freezeouts. However, it would be a big factor in my decision to come up especially to play at the club knowing that I could play that much longer til 6am rather than 3.30. Hi mate as I said, closing hours will be tweaked to suit the new 5 day operation, cheers mate Rob I'm glad to hear its not set in stone, I definitely think the demand is there for later opening hours on the weekend.

I take it that's not direct? I would seriously consider forking out the extra for a direct flight as changing on the East coast is a massive pain.

Poker Forums / The Rail / Re: Asking for pot count
|
on: March 09, 2008, 03:45:42 PM

OK so i was in a live poker event this evening at DTD and asked the dealer for a count of the pot. He said he couldnt do this so I scanned over the pot myself to get a rough total of how much was already in to which he replied "its no good counting the chips sir. its no limit". what i want to ask is:
am i within my rights to ask the dealer how much is already in the pot, for what ever reason?
The dealer should only tell you the pot size in a pot limit game. Asking the dealer to spread the pot out is usually OK, although I know of some floorman who don't even let their dealers do that. The reason being that a dealer should keep his/her hands out of the pot to prevent chip palming.

As I understand it , the Super Casino was going to be more of a Super Resort/Entertainment complex with bars/restaurants, a hotel etc....thus providing thousands of jobs in regeneration, where as the smaller ones will just be a bog standard casino.
Not convined Manchester was the better choice however....Blackpool was/is crying out for this.
I agree there was going to be much more than the casino with bars, clubs and restaurants erected but its all an ideology- your not guaranteed that this will increase the tourism in the area! I watched a very good documentary on Atlanta in the states-which was the same idea- and like AndrewT said it basically sucked money out of the local economy and created a lot of problem gamblers within the area- i'm sorry but I dont think putting a gambling mecca in a deprived area of poverty will work- if anything families in these areas will suffer more! I agree a bit more with blackpool though as it is already a tourist economy and if the casino was to go anywhere it should be there to boost their dwindling tourist industry Atlanta, gambler's paradise

I would like to play at Dusk till Dawn because it will cater exclusively for poker players. This is better than a traditional casino environment because:
- The management, dealers and other employees will have a greater understanding of the game of poker, which is frequently neglected by the established casino conglomerates.
- Greater understanding and supervision of poker will ensure fairness and integrity of the game.
- Unbeatable casino side-games won't be present so I won't be tempted to lose the money I have won at the predominantly skill based game of poker.
Plus it will exciting to play poker in a world class venue, which is very rare in Europe, let alone the UK.

Whats the nicest hotel within a 20 minute drive of the casino please?
St. David's Hotel in the Bay. 5 Star hotel, probably a 20 minute walk to the casino. Seeing as I've been so helpful , could someone tell me if there are any cash games running yet and if so what blinds, short handed or full? Thanks!
