MJ for me is the clear GOAT and i don't think Lebron is the clear cut second everyone likes to make out.  He probably is and will be once he has retired but he isn't in the same league as MJ when it comes to closing games out.

Pippen - one of the most underrated players in history for me.   His game would have been even more deadly in the modern era because of his flexibility to defend all five positions.  One of the greatest all round defenders the game has ever seen.  Great ball handler for his height in that era which was rare and could score in a number of different ways.   The perfect foil for MJ to do all the dirty work defensively for him on the other teams best player.   MJ was still an all time great defender in his own right but could save his energy so many games for the offensive end where no one could stop him.

Rodman - Rodman is a true one off in NBA history.  Arguably the best rebounder ever pound for pound.  6'8' 230lbs in that ultra physical big men era to constantly lead the league in rebounds by the margins he did was incredible.   Like pippen also an all time top 10 defender who could and did guard players of all positions.  People forget Rodman was a key part of the physical Pistons side in 1988-90 that stopped a young MJ in his tracks from reaching the finals.   Rodman literally had zero offense though and actually detested that side of the game.

Between the three of them you had one of the most versatile and effective defensive units ever built.  With the greatest scorer in history at the other end they were truly upstoppable.

Jordan, Pippen and Rodman - Chicago's holy trinity!

I agree with all the above.

The Spy on Netflix.

This drama tells the true story of Israel's most prominent spy, Eli Cohen, who infiltrated the Syrian government in the 1960s.

I am halfway through and it has exceeded expectations.

During a televised speech, announcement or news programme, I find the presence of someone signing for the deaf very distracting. So much so that I have to switch off or switch over.

This might sound uncharitable but I wonder what percentage of the population actually need and can understand signing?

Does it justify the intrusion?

Wouldn't subtitles be better?

What about a parallel, 'with signing' broadcast?

Don't get me wrong, I would walk over hot coals to help anyone less fortunate than myself, but there must be a better way in this instance.

I found the same thing watching the Queen's speech  last night and said to my wife that I found it very distracting and that subtitles would be far less intrusive and do a good job in serving the objective.

It would be interesting to hear the opinion of somebody who is in the unfortunate position of losing their hearing as to their view.

After reading this I thought about your planned holiday, if there was any doubt........:

A husband and wife from the U.S. had been eagerly anticipating their once-in-a-lifetime Viking River Cruise through the Mekong Delta for months, but when three passengers on the ship tested positive for COVID-19, things quickly turned ugly. The Illinois couple says they and the other passengers on the cruise were sequestered in an isolated“filthy, dilapidated” hotel far from their scheduled disembark location.

“We’re just feeling helpless,” Ryan Knapp told USA Today on March 16th, describing the accommodations as an abandoned hotel in southeast Cambodia. “It’s hard to see exactly how this plays out.”

Knapp says he has no idea how he and his wife will be able to make their way back to the U.S. To make matters worse, the 57-year-old reports that while they are not being medically quarantined, officials have told them they are being detained.

I think Tom had a lucky escape.   How different it all looked a month or so ago? I don't know when Tom's holiday was due to finish, and it doesn't look like the same boat, but it is clear now that it was likely to have ended really badly.

Where was that article from?  I wouldn't mind reading it.

Cheers

An interesting viewpoint that goes against the flow:

Covid-19 lockdown update - just watched 'The Test' on Prime.

A year and a half following the Aussie cricket team, felt a bit contrived in parts to show good blokeism above all but very enjoyable series.

Little known fact, I played against Justin Langer when he played at Old Millhillians so could have easily been a documentary featuring me rather than JL but tbf, he pushed on a bit better in his cricket career.

Agreed.

They did a very good job showing the personal side of the players, almost got me liking them!

It did reinforce what a great batsman Steve Smith is and what a difference he made in the Ashes.

Another recommendation to watch this.

It's been reported on the BBC and still is nowhere near official, but Science Wife concurs that all the senior management at her school think the schools are going to be closed until September.

It kind of makes sense. The really important part after Easter are the exams, without the exams it should be relatively easy to catch every one else up when they start a new year.

EDIT: that was from an educational point of view. From an epidemiological point of view closing the schools will cut the net infection rate, the worry was that with key workers being sidelined the net reduction would be trivial whereas the ICU capacity would be non-trivially damaged. Now they think they've worked their way around that then there's no reason to not keep the schools closed as long as there needed. That might be until July or August - but the school year's ending then anway, so hence closed til September.

I think we all know you have a wife now Jon  Cheesy

Trying to keep sources clear Smiley Particularly for the science.

I'm a big Science Wife fan, in fact I like all the readers wives.

Please continue to pass on her input.

I am now also a big fan of Science Wife!!!!

Season 2 of Formula 1 Drive to Survive on Netflix.

If you have not seen Season 1 you this provides a great binge opportunity.

Should be of interest even if you are not a Formula 1 fan.  Mostly features behind the scenes stuff with some great shots of actual races.

I never saw this when it was on, but it came up in my youtube recs

It is astonishing what some people go through to win.

Really good that, actually watched the downhill from Kitzbuhel for the first time in a few years before seeing this here. Was blown away again by the skill and the sheer speed.

Hard to describe what massive stars/heroes these guys are in Austria and Switzerland in particular

Amazing!!!

Thanks for posting this clip.

another old school dinosaur ruins his final salary pension after 44 years.   Why do they do it?   I suppose you have to be Tikay's age to understand their mind set haha!

Why does any agent of a 60+ tv prsenting dinosaur allow them to have social media?  These boys just fuck up far too often without meaning to but show their true colours.

Too be fair, I would assume his pension is intact and he had been paid a chunk to go as it would be hard to sack him for what actually happened.

Do you think he used the gorilla quote because the man was black Stu?

Would it be an issue if the person who was offended was white?

^^^   Story?  ^^^

The Songkran Festival is also a period when the Thai people cleanse and pour water mixed with Thai fragrance on Buddha images.

This however been extended to throwing water at anyone walking down the street.  If you do go for a walk in Bangkok during this period be prepared to get drenched several times.  Farangs (this is what Thais call foreigners) are fair game!!!

Not my idea of fun but each to their own.

Google Songkran and you will see video clips of what goes on.

Currently looking at DIY Bangkok - Finding somewhere nice to use as a base and spending 7/8 days exploring, then maybe a river cruise. (Did one before on the Nile and loved it) Mekong river looks good, would mean flying into Siem Reap and then either home or back to Bangkok from Ho Chi Minh City.

Tom are you passing through Siem Reap or stopping off for a few days? I suggest you stop and do a guided tour of the Angkor Wat, it's incredible. Siem Reap incidentally translates to defeat Siam.

Yes Kev.

Rough plan is to fly into Bangkok, book an inexpensive hotel with a pool to use as a base while we spend about 5/6 days exploring, then fly to Seam Reep for the Angkor Wat tour and then on a river boat for 10 days finishing in Ho Chi Minh City with an excursion per day built in. Then a couple of days in HCMC, fly back to Bangkok and home from there.

Only about 18 passengers on the boat so should be quite nice. Apparently the cabins are a bit small but obv that wont bother us and I hear the food is fantastic.
Haven't got it all sussed yet though so not counting my chickens.

This boat trip sounds just right.   I went through the Mekong Delta by bus, and did a boat trip there.  A boat trip the whole way sounds great, and I wouldn't fancy some big boat as you wouldn't get close to stuff.   I have never been to Ankor Wat, but if I had a bucket list, it would be there.  Shame you can't go all the way from Laos, but I read the river goes North from there, so.ig just isn't possible.  Maybe it needs two trips.

The whole trip sounds good, just try and avoid the really wet season in Bangkok, as the flooding can get really bad.

Thanks Doobs. If we do go it's likely to be in March.

if your'e going to Thailand around March, i'd hold off for April and go for Songkran (their New Years), greattime to be in Thailand especially in the remoter parts where its just a reason to party

I'm worried about it being too hot by April though, especially in Cambodia.

It will be hotter in April and if you don't want to have water chucked on you when out walking, avoid Songkran!

I would never have thought of that Mekong river cruise.

Sounds like a great itinerary covering 3 countries.

Just be sure you take into account the rainy season with your plans. Our winters tend to be a good time to travel there.
