last nights weekly pub tourney and my hand reading skills were at an all time high:
i told one woman she had pocket and had hit the straight, she turned over pocket , told another she had hit a full house on the turn, she turned over her full house that she had hit on the turn. both extremely good lay downs by me so why on earth did i make the following 2 bad plays:
1+UTG raises to 1200 with blinds at 200/400. I'm in BB so make the call with Ks9s. 2 other callers. 5k in the pot. Flop comes K44 so i stick in 3k. Initial raiser moves all-in over the top. the other 2 fold leaving me to put in an additional 9400 to call. 9400 to win a pot of about 30k. I ponder it for a while and come to the conclusion that he's playing AK but i make the call thinking he may be playing AQ, AJ, A10 and doesnt like the K. He turns over AK and takes the pot after i dont improve. Grrrr
2nd instance later on:
guy 2 my right is UTG and raises it to 8k with blinds at 2k/4k. He's been playing solid text book poker and I only have 20k left. I move all in with AJ suited even though i suspect he's playing a pocket pair. Everyone folds but him who calls and turns over QQ. And its good night from me.
why did i make the call even though i was right in what they had?
