Decentralised money and the separation of state and money are coming and ten years on from the financial sector being bailed out by world governments

Can someone economicky explain why/if this is a good thing (nice and simply!)? Or point me in the direction of some articles discussing the economics of a decentralised currency as it applies to crypto? I assume it's being talked about somewhere.

I've heard it said that the the crash was largely a result of deregulation. Either way, it does seem like crypto embraces the libertarian ideal pretty heavily, which always seems to boil down to 'hands off and let capitalism do its thing', which never appealed to me much. Obviously massive problems with financial sector, but I've not really seen anything explaining why crypto/decentralisation would help.

If he's mtting I'd be amazed if he's anything less than 15 tabling, think 5k games is v easy. He may not have won at midstakes+ for a while but he's good enough to beat low stakes just clicking the not-silly buttons (although he did have a penchant for those buttons iirc Cheesy ). If he's as over it as he sounds then he might not be in a good place for grinding a zillion $8 mtts though - I'd say he's a favourite barring a blowup.
3  Poker Forums / The Rail / Re: Possible link between better sleep and more optimal poker performance? on: April 30, 2017, 01:12:59 PM
I'd add that I find playing in the daytime after not having slept well, or waking up early to play, as being the worst of all. Something to do with the adrenaline rush of getting up/starting the day + poker that leads to some enormous crashes if I'm not fully rested. Because of my timezome the earlier I start the bigger the games are that I get to play, which is even worse for the adrenaline too!

Taken me a while to learn but taking the day off >>> playing if I'm tired.

I think its sad that he often doesn't allow himself a certain different type of thought

Fancy expanding on this at all? I take it you have a certain type of thought in mind...

As a financially sensible but also financially illiterate younger person, thanks for all the advice thus far Smiley

3. I meet so many individuals that neglect to pay into pension citing either complexity or inaccessibility as their reason. If you are getting tax relief on your contributions (which all do, to a limit) and an employer match then think this one through, if you are a basic rate tax payer you can have £8 in your pocket or £20 in pension. For a higher rate taxpayer £6/£20. For an additional rate taxpayer £5.50/20. The reality is often a little better still though salary sacrifice and NI saving sharing. --> YOU HAVE TO LOOK AFTER THE SHORT TERM, OF COURSE, BUT THERE IS NO BETTER VEHICLE TO SAVE FOR 55+.
....
2. Personal pension payment of £2,880 grossed to £3,600 by HMRC. Each individual can contribute this even with no relevant earnings.

3. ISA allowance (diversified stocks and shares, not cash please) for £15,240pa.
....

Would add here that this could be a good option come april for self-employed/pokery people: https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/508117/Lifetime_ISA_explained.pdf. I've seen it billed as a pension for self-employed people. In short it acts as a regular isa but you get 25% bonus per year on deposits up to £4k (ie £1k per year) from the government. Then once you're 60/want to buy your first home you get the full amount tax-free. Only for us young'uns though Smiley

Any thoughts on this vs. personal pension? Or could both be best - say you could save £7k/yr, I assume it would be best to put the 4k/yr into the isa and then the £2880 into the pension to maximise free monies, rather than lumping the whole lot into either?

Good post mantis.

says the man who maybe doesn't believe in love but believes in infatuation Cheesy

Kinda agree - I do think different cities can work for some couples for a while, if they're already solid, good communicators etc. Longterm probably not a great idea as relationships require attention and work but for a year or so if you wanted to make sure the restaurant gets off to the best start it could definitely be an option. Ultimately though if you think it would have a detrimental impact on the relationship then managing a restaurant indeed seems like small (deep fried) potatoes.
9  Poker Forums / The Rail / Re: The partypoker Millions at DTD £5m GTD (£1m 1st place) on: October 02, 2016, 05:25:57 PM
payouts....

Agreed, I can see it's sort of awkward from DTD's point of view but I feel like there's a happy medium in there somewhere. Personally I wouldn't want a full 10% of every £500 entry paid either; I'd say treat it like a £500 rebuy as mentioned, in which case mincash would probably be 2-2.5k, paying... idk 500 or so. Bit of a compromise between the 2 'buyins'

I hope the Democrats come to their senses and ditch Hilary and go for Bernie Sanders.
^^^ Is there a chance of this happening? Mintrav seems to have written him off but as Trump gets stronger and stronger vs Hilary, could there be a point where they end up going with Sanders as he polls so much better vs Trump? Delegates are close, could enough supers jump ship/contested convention? Assuming she isn't indicted for the emails thing that is...
11  Poker Forums / The Rail / Re: What do you call yourself, unemployed or self employed? on: May 19, 2016, 09:00:18 AM
the official answer is 'retired' if you are not paying income tax or NI contributions. I spoke to the tax office about this 10 years ago or so and that is what they told me to put on forms and insurance documents etc.

Any idea if this is still the case if you do pay NI? In fact can I put 'retired' on my voluntary contributions form? Plan to start paying when I move back to the UK.

Again surely if Sanders wins nomination we get Trump as president?

Every poll shows Sanders beating Trump if they are the nominees I believe. I think Trump is very very unlikely to be president whoever the democrat nominee is tbh.

Betfair has Bernie for prez at 19:1 - does that seem a bit long? Given he just won michigan, which could influence other important midwestern states, and wins vs any repub in the polls? Obv still a big underdog but 19:1 seems a little much maybe

You flatting the btn with AJ vs someone that 3bet calls this wide? Surely with 40%+ vs your 3/calls and you folding ~half your 3bets getting in AJ is printing

Enjoying the read Smiley

It's almspt as if to say omg look how fucking good this fold is. It's obviously bad to do and after listening to a podcast with jabracadabra he said he loves to look like a killer at the table. Game face on, not giving anything away being the guy people just want to avoid. And I totally agree.

This seems like just another incarnation of the same problem to me. From 'I want to be seen as someone who can make sick folds' to 'I want to be seen as someone who doesn't care whether anyone knows if I can make sick folds or not, and come across as a killer'. The problem is the 'I want to be seen as...' bit, not whatever comes after.
