There are breeds of miniature cats as well, but I take your point, obviously dogs are particularly responsive to selective breeding but the variety is in the main due to the wide variety of work that dogs have proved capable of doing. If we look at other animals that we can get to work for us, such as horses, there are also many breeds, bred to do different jobs.

Is it not just that dogs can be trained to work for humans? Traits that helped them in their various tasks are exaggerated by selective breeding, forming all the different breeds we have today.

There's not much point in selectively breeding cats if you can't get them do what you want.

Menwith Hill is very close by which is a RAF/Us Airforce base. It's main function is a NATO communications centre, there are strangle 'golf ball' like structures which house antennae that can be seen from the road, A59 I think is right.

The reservoir system has three reserviors one after the other along the valley, Thurcross, Fewston then Swinty. I don't think there are any more.

It's very pretty part of the world. Yorkshire Water have done very well to improve access to these areas. I'm always in awe of the scale of the engineering that built the reservoirs, and that they manage to do a job much bigger than they were designed for so many years later.

I wouldn't say it was close to the border, it's between Harrogate and Skipton. I go out there walking sometimes.

Sorry I'm just being annoying now, I can see how getting water to run uphill would be a problem.

Blubberhouses is in North Yorkshire and sits right in the middle of the Washburn valley reservoir system. I think your silica quarry must have been somewhere else.

My worry is that he somehow manages to come over as legitimate and this then lends credence to the bullshit the BNP spouts.

This will, of course, be his aim, and given that the questions this week apparently have to be vetted in advance I'm sure he'll have nice 'reasonable' sounding answers prepared.  Yeah, there may be a few people of below average intelligence that get sucked into the 'oh, they're not really racist at all, he talks some sense' school of thought, but I doubt the average question time viewer will be so easily fooled.

The problem is it's not the average question time viewer that needs persuading.
