An illegal immigrant was allowed to stay in Britain because he had a cat, it was revealed yesterday.

That sure would have been the reason.

Quite scary reading the comments how many people believe this could actually happen.

Do we know the facts to the contrary?

Common sense.

Plus I spent years investigating complaints against the IND. A Decision to allow an illegal immigrant to stay in this country based on them having a cat simply would not be made. FACT.

But at the same time we can't deport without proof of id ?

Jamie, do you have any colleagues that act stupidly sometimes?

Do you have any kind of bonus scheme at Blue Square?

Do you think you should be denied part of your bonus if a colleague acts stupidly?

There are many reasons not to tip, this is not one of them.

“With or without religion,
you would have good people doing good things
and evil people doing evil things.
But for good people to do evil things,
that takes religion.”

—Steven Weinberg, US physicist (1933 - )

The holy books mentioned are not a guide for morality, that comes from somewhere else (imo).

That's a neat soundbite, but it's not true.

Where did I say all good comes from religion?

Good comes from people (in this context), some good people use religion.

I did not say 'All' good people use religion.

Btw, I am not religious, or particularly good.

So evil people use religion to achieve evil ends. Good people use religion to try and create a better world.

There are more good people than bad, so in general religion achieves more good than bad.

Is there a religion that does not encourage people to be decent to one another?

This.

Really?

All the Abrahamic religions teach that non-believers should or will be punished (and their books show many examples of this).

Maybe, but most followers believe that judgment will be made after death and that it is up to God to do the punishing.
