91  Poker Forums / The Rail / MicroMillions anyone? on: March 21, 2015, 01:40:39 AM
Surprised there isn't already a fun sweats thread going.  Can't imagine I'm the only one playing a few?

Wanted to start it with a bang but alas, 78th in mm13 limit stud. I'm chuffed really as it was my first ever stud comp.

GL all.

I'm 57. I have no debt, nor do I have a pension or a regular income. What would you suggest I do with a £150k win?

Use it to provide a regular income for x years, either by investments or otherwise, if it was me.

If I won a nice chunk like that now it'd be clearing the finance on my tractor etc, make business life easier, use the rest for a depo on my own yard.

Poker wise just keep playing the same, like has been said there'd be no harm done in having a pop at one or two biggies though.

Can't decide if I risk a check shove.  Chances of it getting checked round behind??

I feel the need to point something out for the lowrollers here. This doesnt apply to those who are balla.

It concerns flights.  This will mainly be beneficial to those who live up North.

You can save serious amounts of money by starting your journey in Dublin.

As an example, I have just gone to the BA site and plugged in an economy return, for one person, leaving 22nd September and returning 2 weeks later, flying from Manchester Airport. I have specifically chosen this date as it is a random midweek day when the kids are back in school. My route will be Manchester - London then London - Vegas. The cheapest flight leaves Manchester at 6.45am and I have an 8hr wait in London outbound. This costs £750, which is about right for a direct flight from London itself.

NOW...I go to Kayak.co.uk. I specifically ask for a Multi-City flight, leaving Dublin to Vegas on the same dates as above, and returning from Vegas to Manchester. I then filter out all the other connecting cities except for London.

My flight leaves Dublin at 1pm, lands at Heathrow at 2.20pm and we're on the same flight to Vegas as above. My return flights are also the same as the ones quoted by BA. Total cost of flight? £565.

So I've saved myself £185 just by flying from Dublin. But...how do I get to Dublin? That's easy.

If you book well in advance for Vegas - wait for Ryanair's £9.99 sale. Add on one hold bag for £25 and you've spent £35 going to Dublin. Flight leaves Manchester at 7.50am and lands at Dublin at 8.50am. You leave slightly later than you would if you were flying BA and you've saved £150. That's a buyin for a cash game or a couple of tourneys.

Well worth it IMO.

Could you do that, and just be a no show for the dublin flight?  Training it to London instead?

Does feel dirty I agree!  JJ makes sense though, I think 77 would more than likely 3bet flop? Button could also have lots of hands like 68hh combos which the 4 has hit so you gotta fold imo.  Not sure if we can 4 bet fold to a jam on the turn?

I'd fold this 100% vs Norman. He will always have the straight flush.

You play leeds too?  Never ceases to amaze me how many people in here I've probably played with without knowing.

For me this is all about the turn, fair enough he can check AA JJ AJ on flop, and should be raising JQ+ on turn, are they nitty enough to flat these hands on the turn just because KT is in Heroes range here?  Long term it's gotta be a pass but there are players I would snap call vs in this spot.

Was thinking you might ask who.  It was Norman.  I know he has got a well timed bluff in him which is why it still keeps coming back to me.  For the record I did fold, I remember at the time I thought it was the best fold in the world lol and folded face up.  The whole table gasped in disbelief, and Norman promptly told me "you can't fold that!"  Before showing me 2 black tens and a 3.  Leaving two cards face down into the muck.  Would love to hear your thoughts now Dave.

Hilarious. If he hadn't shown any he might be bluffing which is nonsensical in itself but when he does this he always has it

That's what I like to think too, and I'm still happy with the fold, especially as I think it was genuine annoyance from him that he didn't get paid.  Interesting spot none the less.

Everyone thinks 6card is some huge action game when in reality you would most likely just be against AK109 and QQ/JJ.

Really enjoy these PLO 4/5/6 threads though.

Very true this, and you do get a few going crazy, but really most are getting it in with a very nuts heavy range

Fold rather than get it in for me on both I think, definately 6 card anyway, don't think I'm ever surprised to find villain with 2 pair/set with the same or better draw.  It's so easy to get stacked in 6card and be sat saying to yourself "what on earth was I thinking!"

One from a couple of years ago that I still comes to mind from time to time, I hadn't been playing plo very long at all, probably only my 4/5th live game at the time and I know I was making lots of mistakes, playing overly tight but did have a very tight image as a result of it.

Ok the game is 2/2 456 plo in leeds.  Only 2 of the reg plo players playing, rest of table is made up of holdem players, playing because the game was quieter than usual (not playing for stacks EVERY hand!)

I'm dealt its limped to me I pot to £14, both regs call as does 1 other.
£60 pot I'm liking the flop of  two hearts I bet the pot £60, reg on button calls.  He has me covered, I started the hand with about £500.

Turn brings the  . Given my image I was thinking a check may induce a semi bluff from a flopped set (that's what I think I was thinking anyway!) 2/3 of which I'm now crushing all ends up.  Villain checks back.

River is a complete brick, to the point I can't remember what it was, but it's irrelevant.  I bet £75 hoping for a sigh call, only to hear the word "pot" from villain and a whole pile of ponies move over the line.  I look back at the board and shit myself.

My thought process at the time and still is now that a) can't be a bare  bluff cos I have it b) he maybe takes my turn check as weakness and just thinks I don't have it c) could have just the hoping I won't sigh call with ace flush d) he actually has it and thinks I'm gonna snap off with an ace flush.

I tanked forever on this, can we fold or do we just put it in??
