Next labour leader.

Surely a woman?

Surely left wing to be elected by the membership?

.....leads to either RLB (4/1) or Rayner (8/1)

cant have Rayner, so going in again on RLB.

Well at least all the Champagne Socialists can take solace in seeing their £ buying power up to $1.35 and their share portfolios up by, what? 2-4% this morning.

Bantering aside, I seriously hope that Boris will stand by his promise to address the issues of the Northeast (and other parts of England) where so much trust has been put in him. He isn’t a one-man-band, and he’s determined to leave a positive legacy, so whilst he’s not an inspirational leader of the country (IMO), let’s hope that he will allow his cabinet to guide him along the best path for everyone in this country.

It’s going to be interesting to see how he handles the SNP issue: will he give them another referendum, and trust that the stats appear to suggest that they will fail again? Or will he just continue to ignore the constant whine of Sturgeon & Co? He can certainly do without the distraction.

All the latest polling says "No to Independence", so he has that to back him up. They can whine, but it ain't happening in this Parliament and Sturgeon knows this.

I think this quote is a pretty good summary of feeling:-

“Ultimately I felt like I had to travel less distance to the right of my political spectrum to meet Boris Johnson (who I believe Boris Johnson is when he doesn’t have to pander to the ERG and what he would be with a larger majority) than I had to travel left to meet Jeremy Corbyn,"

Yes I heard it said Boris will be more Heseltine than Thatcher.

He will need to be, to keep those "lent Labour votes" in play in 5 yrs time.

Sterling has been sliding all day, but just jumped back up, someone has confidence of a Tory win.
Anyone with access to the exit poll data is locked away in a room without their phones.

Sky TV Australia!.....

Tory insiders are telling me Boris Johnson could “genuinely be in trouble in #UxbridgeAndSouthRuislip”.

Exit pollsters think the Lib Dem vote has collapsed there probably due to tactical voting for Labour.🚨

Could be rubbish of course but......Also now Tom Harwood ( Guido Fawkes )

Hearing Boris' seat is definitely in play for Labour. They should deffo move all their activists away from Battersea and out to Uxbridge 😉😉

Chief Exec of Ipsos MORI, (who are doing the Exit Poll for everyone tonight) when asked on twitter about the latest "youthquake"

And much as I love
@Twitter
it is about as representative of the electorate as just doing polling in Hackney...

Could the headline tomorrow be "Brexit party screw up Brexit" ?

It feels tighter than the polls predict.......and maybe those Brexit votes are going to stop enough seats turning blue on the red wall.

Sporting Index

We've revised our total Labour party seats for #GeneralElection2019 to 224-230, more than 10 higher than at the start of the week.

In terms of sustained repeated lies, Boris is already ahead of Trump. It’s near impossible to find something he has said in the campaign which is true or close to being true. Even the ‘great new deal’ that he “negotiated” was only him accepting the deal the EU wanted from the start and that May (and he) said was entirely unacceptable, he did get workers and environmental protections removed, nothing else.

Just out of interest , so we can’t misremember in the future that basically every word is entirely untrue, like we did with the referendum. Can anyone find something Boris said in the campaign that was either true or close to being true?

They all put an electoral spin on things...like it or not it's how politics works.

.ie the NHS is for sale ,,...it will soon cost you £10,000 for cancer treatment.

ie almost everthing Ashworth said in the campaign ........he himself said wasn't true !!

I can’t find evidence of the £10,000 for cancer treatment claim. Do you have a link?

I saw it mentioned in interviews by Jo Coburn and Andrew Neil to Labour spokesman, saying why are you using these scare tactics.

Apparently Corbyn sent an email and/or facebook fundraising ad, saying....."imagine paying for childbirth, to see a GP or a five figure sum for cancer treatment "

You can see the image/ad on twitter. I cant seem to see it on msm. I presume labour pulled it quite quickly.

**Incoming election constituency bet recommend**

Canterbury was the only Kent constituency that turned red in the 2017 election, by a tiny majority of 187. This time around I think the previously-complacent Tory voters will be out in force, knowing that a guaranteed majority is no longer a gimme and must be fought for.

This is a two-horse race with the Brexit candidate withdrawing and the initial Lib Dem one following suit. Swinson organized a replacement, who didn’t appear at a local hustings (neither did Labour incumbent Rosie Duffield).

Anna Firth, the Tory candidate is a Vote Leave stalwart, and Canterbury was 51% leave in the referendum, but despite the fact she is not from the city I cannot have Labour at 1.44. The student vote may well mirror the numbers of 2017, as semester-wise a similar amount will be around. But will as many be keen on a Labour Party now thoroughly tarnished with anti-Semitic tropes?

Suggest £20 for Conservatives at 2.75 (365), and Fred is welcome to have it with me if this market goes down soon #postalvotespoiler.

Decent value........my only worry would be that student /young vote holding up despite terrible Corbyn press. Terrible weather in the South East atm... that might put off older voters?

So on the final day before the election we’ve had the BBC’s Senior Political Editor say that postal votes don’t look good for Labour, which appears on its face to be a breach of broadcasting code as well as Electoral Commission rules, but all of that pales into insignificance when there’s another BBC troll saying that ‘if he wins the majority that he so deserves’.

No surprises there that the he in question is Boris Johnson.

The lack of editorial integrity is remarkable.  Absolutely outstanding.

I look forward to hearing from Sheree Jenner-Hepburn or some other Tory shill telling us all about the good friend she has working at the Beeb and how impartial they all are, and in fact if anything they’re biased against Boris and his oven-ready Brexit deal.

She is trying to relate what the Tories have said to her, and has clumsily got it wrong.
