How many chips do you start with in this tournament?

20,000 and you have about 45 mins to get here. 65 in so far.

Shuffle Up & Deal!! We are underway here in Thanet. Blinds 25-50... Starting with 37 players. #gukpt

6 one hour levels of late and re-entry, no more chip penalties on GUKPT. Up to 40 already, Stockton started with a similar number and ended up with 73 runners.

Just back from casino, they have over 20 pre-qualified not including the half dozen or so internet qualifiers and there is another live satellite tonight. Anything over 50 is a success when you compare it to the summer series numbers in previous years. Numbers in side events have been better than Stockton apart from the Omaha last night.

Casino is pretty nice but much the same as any other G. From what I have seen today from the staff they are pretty decent bunch down here.

Enjoyed the comp. Good structure for a 150. Very impressed with first experience of dtd just not the way I ran :-)

Funking for Maria and Terry Mitford. Pleasure to play with them today and all the other decent sorts I met over the few days.

Will be back.

Thanks for updates mouth & JGill.

To be honest it will not be that much of a grind. When I started playing GUKPT events in 2008 I looked at the structure and timing of them and the final table was hit about level 21 or so and that was with the mighty stack of 10,000 and average of 275/350 runners.
The last deepstack I played in Ireland with 580 runners and 50,000 chips still hit final table ( without me unfortunately ) at I think level 26. Admittedly this is 77 min levels but anyone want to guess the level final table reached maybe Trigg will run a book!
Bookie`s guess with say 375ish runners level  22.

I'll take the over level 22 for a buy in to any monkey event. Loser pays buy in but gets 20% as a chance to get out Smiley Assuming a field of more than 300.

This link for the Devilfish Live Stream at 1pm

http://www.dusktilldawnpokerclub.com/live.php

What's the story with having to have an account to watch the stream? I am trying to set up as a new user on the instant play option but when I click the "New User" button nothing happens.

I can't use the download option as I am trying to watch on a Mac.

I don't particularly mind setting up an account but surely the idea of the stream is to promote the club and entice people to play there live or online. Putting a barrier in place is just going to turn people off before they get a taste for the place.

In a re-entry event each re-entry is effectively a new player so payouts should be based on the total of the initial entries plus the re-entries.

In a re-buy the payouts are based on only the number of actual players who enter, re-buys are not taken into consideration.

A clearer example would be:

Re-Entry tournament - 100 unique players plus 50 re-entries would pay 15 spots

Re-Buy tournament - 100 unique players plus 50 re-buys would pay 10 spots

If you re-enter in a re-entry tournament it would be very common for a min-cash to pay less than how much you have paid into the tournament as not many tournaments pay more than double the entry fee for a min cash.

In a re-buy tournament sometimes the min-cash can be 2 or 3 times the initial entry cost so a min-cash would represent a profit for most people who re-buy.

This came up at our Deepstack in Dublin which was a re-entry and anyone who min-cashed got less than 2 buy ins so if they re-entered they made a loss on the event. The thing to remember with a re-entry tournament is that a re-entry should be considered as a sperate tournament if you take advantage of the option.
45  Poker Forums / The Rail / Re: DEAL OR NO DEAL on: February 24, 2012, 12:27:35 PM
I have not read the whole thread so apologies if any of this has been covered already.

I think that deals are part and parcel of poker. It does matter how flat you make a payout structure a good percentage of the time all the players want to deal. Especially when there is s decent amount being played for.

I understand from an organisers point of view that a big first prize is a good promo tool and of course if you are live streaming or filming an event then you want it to be played to a finish properly or it goes a bit flat.

If a deal is done in an event then we will not hide the fact, I think it makes a good discussion point on livestream's blogs etc.

There needs to be a balance between what the players want and what the organisers want and I am not sure if we have it 100% right yet but the policy I apply is:

1: In any deal there must be something left to play for after the deal. The amount should be relative to the size of the tournament. Normally I would insist on at least 5% of 1st prize.

2: All players must agree to the deal. Most of the time it is clear whether all the players want to deal. I would ask the question "Is anybody against doing a deal" at the point where it has started being discussed and if nobody pipes up then I would also use the red card/black card voting system to make sure no one is afraid to oppose. Sometimes it is clear that everyone wants to deal so I would not waste anyone's time with a vote in this instance.

3: The organiser should assist with the deal. Not by suggesting amounts but by calculating each persons share based on the various proposals and making sure that every player is 100% happy with the final proposal. Once everyone is agreed then we would adjust the payouts and make sure that each players is paid per the deal.

4: If at any point it is clear that there is an objector to the deal then players are warned that any further deal discussion or pressurising a player to take part in a deal will result in a penalty. If you are allowing deals then you must offer protection to players who need it.

There are plenty of good ICM calculators out there and most give various different options based on the chips stacks and payouts that are input. The one I use on my Android tablet is called dealmaker.
