Whilst working my way gradually back through this thread I saw the blond updating team were looking for a new lens. The Canon 50mm f1.8 is a brilliant low cost lens for less than £100 new. It's nick-named the plastic fantastic and if you have a Canon DSLR you should think about adding one to your kit.

Because of the wide aperture setting it is great for low light. Set it to f1.8 on Av mode and you will get great pics. Resolution is good enough on the camera you have that you can crop to zoom for web pics so lack of zoom is not an issue. It will give a very shallow depth of field if you are close to your subject so step back if you want a deeper depth of field.

There is also now a 40mm f.28 Canon lens for less than £200 new which will give you a slightly wider view but not as wide an aperture.

When the coffers grow the 24-70 & 70-200 2.8L lenses are the business for poker photography and most of the Canon using pro's would have them. You'll probably get better results from your camera & these lenses than cheaper lenses & more expensive camera.

Thought I'd share a few recent pics.

The first are taken at Ferne Animal Sanctuary in Somerset where my partner works. It's a great place and the animals get cared for really well. I enjoy spending time helping out, mostly walking the some of the dogs & putting the animals away at night.

Thanks for the link to Hoey Mike, he covers quite a spread with really good vids.

Geo

Yeah he has a good portfolio. There is also a website he writes for which is worth looking at www.tipsquirrel.com. Some of the other contributors quite good too.

Just found this section of the site - will have to start from beginning of thread when I have some time. I am starting to get back into photography since getting some high end DSLR's for the video side of our business.

Good video on firework photography here:

Here's one I did for one of the guys in a local band:

Well done in the main event.

Why does it take a couple of weeks to pay out please to the % folk?

If i want to buy a car i'll just ship instant online. The money is there off it goes.

Regards

M

I couldn't send their share of the WSOP cash online instantly because the dollars wouldn't fit into my cd drive.

To those actually interested in the process:

I haven't yet collected the money from the rio because the bank isn't open today and I don't want the cash lying around.
Tomorrow I will collect the money and go to the bank and deposit it into my account (I have a US bank account which comes in very handy)
I will then transfer the money to a forex company who send £££ to my uk bank account.
Once that arrives I will send out the transfers to the backers.

The above process will actually probably only take 5-7 working days, but I said a couple of weeks to be safe. Also I am staying in Vegas until Saturday and therefore don't want to send out all my dollars before I know how much I'll need for the coming week (I'll be playing cash). Rather than do 2 transfers and double the transaction costs I will just wait until Friday to send what dollars I have in one go, however if anyone is genuinely in need of their money in a hurry I can move it forward a few days.

Perfectly fine with me. Was expecting longer to be fair, have heard some horrors about WSOP payouts taking up to 6 weeks if you take a cheque or transfer.

Well done again!

wait - people enter tourneys where ex's are 7x buyin? Really?

GL selling -

The IPO, Goliath and DTD Grand Prix's are great examples of how big this particular market is Guy. At one time or another they have all held the record for biggest live field in Europe and all get players travelling a decent distance to play. All at buy ins where unless it is round the corner from you the exes are going to outweigh the entry fee. Some people (a lot) just have a passion for the game.

There's always something a bit icky about someone who is in a traditional majority group complaining about a piece of inequality they have suffered - it comes across as bleating.

As a straight, white, able-bodied man I would just feel too much like a bully to kick up that much of a fuss about a tiny thing going against one of my areas of traditional power.

And a women-only poker tournament is the smallest single thing I could ever think of.

Maybe a last minute winner.

Agree with Tom, and there are no men only events for women to object to. But what I dislike more is the ridic overreation to a few blokes playing it, so what. Who care, really. The contempt they're treated with, abuse from women and the rail, idiots like Negreanu asking for pics of them to be posted so they can be chastised for their heinous crime, rounds of applause when they bust or take a bad beat, I mean that's not at all classless as well is it?

The amount of people on twitter, like Neagreanu, calling guys out, slagging them off, saying how disgraceful it was, embarrassing, all this shite, really? Is there not more in the world to worry about that whether a load of people sat round playing cards have appendages or not? Who gives a shit.

I really like Vicky and her writing, but the way she treated a guy for wanting to play a game of cards...and because he's ruthless and wants to play a soft game, is that not what poker is all about, ruthlessly taking someone's money. On one thread Camel is saying how sensible Feldman's bumhunting was, this seem to be what Vicky is accusing this guy of. I'd find it pretty patronising if a sponsored pro wanted to play in the event I was playing in so she coud have a laugh, enjoy stories about fishing trips and compared handbags and earrings.

If you're too scared, timid or embarrassed to venture into a plush Vegas cardroom to sit down n play poker, whatever your sex, maybe u should look for a new hobby

I don't think I ever said Feldman bumhunting was sensible.

I just didn't understand why he was criticised so much for it.

I had no idea the lengths he went to to get the fish heads up.

Just think there's things way more important to get het up about than a bunch of womn who want to play a poker tournament together without having men involved.
Agree completely, tho more on the subject as whole. If there's a women only tournament, who cares. If some chancers wanna play it, they're welcome to it, who cares. People saying their blood is boiling and all this....coz a couple of fellas played cards? Would hate to see their reaction if something bad happened

Maybe blood boiling was a bit over the top. I take that bit back, it was more astonishment that some people on here thought it was Ok Smiley Anyway perfectly calm and off on holiday soon. I'll chip in with my opinion on something again in a year or so no doubt.

Nirvana wins the thread anyway.

There is a lot of tosh being spoken in this thread by people who are normally a lot more on the ball.

Personally I see no reason why in an ideal world there should be women only events.

In a black and white situation clearly it is not right to have men only or women only anything where physical ability doesn't matter. The real world is not always black and white.

Women don't turn up to play in numbers. Some say it is because of the overtly masculine environment. What is the harm of having the odd the event they can play that they don't feel like they are coming into an alien environment?

In most contests you would expect players to play within the "spirit of the game". The men that play these tournaments certainly have no spirit of the game and anybody who sticks up for them can't have either. It might sound extreme but I would put these people in the same category as any dirty angle-shooter because at the end of the day it is the same.

There are a gazillion other poker tournaments that they can play.

Anybody commending them for taking poker to it's purist elements by exploiting the weak spots is doing it completely out of context. They are classless idiots pure and simple.

I'll never run a women only tournament. Not because I don't think they have their place (I wish they didn't) but because I don't want to get sued by some arrogant, classless jerk who I stop from playing.

If you feel your rights as a man are being infringed there are better ways to go about protesting.

I offered my opinions and conducted my argument in a civil manner.

I didn't resort to insults and name calling.

I take great exception to your remarks.

I wasn't calling you any names. I was not referring to anybody in thread with the comments you have bolded and I apologise if anyone else has got that impression.

I do however stand by referring to the men who play these events as I did which is who the bolded bits are aimed at. It may not be civil but in my opinion they are not civil either.

Two wrongs don't make a right I know that but it does make you feel better when your blood is boiling. Anyone who knows me would attest that doesn't happen often.
