First week in the books done.

Bench is amazing me but leg day is cancelled until my job walking around all day finishes at end of the month. My thighs were like granite midweek and I was concerned I had done some real damage but thankfully it has slowly faded with some tlc

Weighed in ~77kg all week - would like to clean(ish) bulk but as a natural fattie I am very concerned about starting this process.

Both gyms I've been to were surprisingly quiet - anyone else found this?

My place was rammed on Monday but it has just had a big refurb and dished out some special offers so that may have contributed to the numbers. Seems to have quietened down through the week a bit though.

Got to be very careful with bulking if you've never done it before. Do you know your maintenance calories? Do you even count your calories?

To bulk you only need to be in a slight calorie surplus. A lean bulk would be 200 to 300 calories max surplus per day. That could feasibly add 1kg per month which may not sound much but any more and I can guarantee the gain is fat not muscle.

Search "greg doucette bulking diet" on YouTube for some of the best info there is.


I don't count calories religiously anymore but I did 3-4 years ago weighing ingredients when I was first losing weight and unlearning everything I knew previously about diet and nutrition. My maintenance is ~2600.

Yep definitely only need a little surplus so mostly a matter of a few extra eggs at breakfast and full fat milk in the protein shakes should cover it.

Lots of doms this morning but worth it as always.

Lifted ~65-75% of previous maxes which feels about right given time off.

Easy re-introduction week and then will get back on to a programme next and up the calories/protein.

Oh yes I know I'm definitely wrong I'm just surprised how different it is. It's curious how 50/1 shots have that win price due to reasons but can sneak into the places more often than usual. The variance isn't as huge as it used to be I thought - ground/fence/course safety wise. Anyway, definitely not going to go steaming into Betfair prices on a whim!

Why are place odds so out of line with what we'd usually expect? If something's fave, why is he suddenly unlikely to get 2nd-5th in this race vs say 3m4f?

It's a gigantic field but large field flat handicaps don't show the same discrepancies afaik. I'm sure I'm wrong but the C&D should be a red herring - it's still nags going round a field at the end of the day.

The vitamins are ott but you must need some supplementation when you're 2x normal size.

I don't understand why he isn't cutting harder now. Surely you want to do it now before any peak training phase?


General point - I've seen quite a few of these strongman diet vids, and they just don't eat many vegetables? I know they need to eat a lot of calorifically dense stuff but raw veg and salad is stuff your body 'loves'

Nice to see good results stemming from all the solid bench volume. Progression is possible whatever the circumstances!

I'm just ticking over - Census job has been a non-starter and work won't commence until next week still. Been running and doing plenty of glute bridge variations to strengthen hammies and arse.

Weighed in at 78kg which I was pleased with - given how (relatively) lean I currently am I had expected to weigh less.

Looking into creatine and it seems like a good supplement to take. Anyone have strong thoughts either way about it?

Was similarly amazed to see Bord back and equally not surprised to see he is still an insufferable prick.

Polk is one of the biggest stations out there, and is number 1 in the world at not following reads and playing 'GTO' -that Hellmuth got him to fold this by mentioning blockers is incredible.

I think it's a fold because Hellmuth has no idea about checking range on boards such as this and cbets all his combo flush draws and likely all sets other than top set because you gotta trap that 100% of the time regardless of board texture obv.

I'm surprised Hellmuth has QTo here but the call is b/e against a range of JJ, 88, QTs, and how is he ever lighter than this other than QTo
