http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/retailandconsumer/9488466/Ranks-plans-to-buy-Gala-Coral-referred-to-Competition-Commission.html

The surprise decision to refer the £205m deal to the Competition Commission is expected to stall talks for six months. Analysts warned the deal, which it was thought could have gone through as soon as next month, could now be de-railed altogether.
The OFT said it was concerned that the takeover would “substantially” reduce competition nationally and in nine local areas.
Rank operates 34 casinos in the UK under brands including Grosvenor and GCasino. Gala operates 23 casinos, most of which operate under the Gala brand. The acquisition would take Rank’s share of the number of British casinos from 25pc to 44pc. At the moment, Genting has the largest number with 28pc of the market.
Ali Nikpay, the OFT director who made the decision, said: “This merger would represent a major consolidation which could be expected to reduce competition, both locally and nationally. The high barriers to entry and expansion in the casino sector mean the loss of competition could potentially be irreversible.”
The OFT noted Rank’s offer to “provide undertakings” to reduce the dominance of the combination but said they were “not considered sufficiently clear-cut to address all of the concerns raised by this merger”.

For those coming to Bristol that want to book the IBIS next door to Casino rates are currently £45 per night. UKIPT site quoting £67. This hotel will sell out so if you want somewhere close to crash out this is the one I would recommend.

I've just been reading the schedule for season 3 of the UKIPT and came across the fact they are taking 3% of prizepool as costs for floor staff is this even acceptable?

Link: http://www.ukipt.com/tournaments/

£700+£70 for all events and then 3% took out of PP, is this even fair?

What is even the point of rake, if £70 isn't already enough.

Quick simple maths:

300 runners in a touney = PP of £210,000, then you take away £6,300 for the extra costs! Not to mention that they have already took £21,000 in rake.

Am I the only one thinking WTF?

Bristol isn't taking the 3%

Emailed them. They're cancelling Swansea and replacing it with another location to be announced. Still clashes with gukpt blackpool though

Reliable source tells me Bristol Gala although contract not yet signed. They will struggle for floor space but have an additional room (that needs signing off by fire safety officer) - or they will probs clear half of the pitt floor.

Will be happening in November in Bristol. Announcement soon!! Grosvenor deal not yet complete but discussions been going on before that deal announced.

Bristol now officially on UKIPT site:-

And finally, in case the young man who started the thread thinks we have gone a little off topic, here is the subject of his thread.

Just a personal opinion, of course, but in my view, far & away the worst run & managed Licensed Poker Venue in the UK it has been my misfortune to visit, though I am sure it has improved since I last visited, and if they are to host a UKIPT, I wish them well.

The cardroom is on the 2nd floor, accessed by a tiny lift. It's a Schindler Lift, incidentally, or that's what my records have it List-ed as.

Remember having conversation with you Tikay about Bristol and bad experience by Sky some years ago.

Things have improved a lot and I'm sure UKIPT will be well prepared for.

Reentry on same day better for travelling players like myself.

Would like to see min cash increase though as it doesnt even cover hotel and petrol for one night most of the time.
