If we don't fancy our chances of getting a bluff through otr maybe we should take the price we're getting and call. I don't think raising to £70 is ever going to scare him Mr Businessman, probably need to make it bigger if we want to take it down there and then.
this is essentially the crux of the discussion. raising turn vs an opponent we know we can't get a bluff through seems like a counterintuitive (spelling) play!? I tried to do a combinations calculation and it seemed to me that we have way too many bluffs to value vs an opponent who has a weak made hand (9x) a lot and sometimes flop trapped monsters and often better club draws than our own.

Interesting spot I think, from a mates live cash game. Playing 1/3 @ the vic 8 handed 10pm ish We have £500 to start Single straddle to £6. 'Businessman' (BM) opens HJ to 22, Hero calls BTN with , straddle calls. BM playing 700 Straddle playing 1k Flop Straddle checks, BM checks, Hero checks Turn Straddle checks, BM bets 25, Hero raises to 70, straddle folds, BM calls. River BM bets 85, Hero shoves 405. Extra information We are not going to bluff on brick rivers (because villain won't fold 9x+) We are not going to value bet a 10, we may bet 1/4 pot on some J's Hero is a young gentleman, short hair, often quiet demeanour, not seen as overly splashy or aggro.

Thanks for the comments, I originally thought 3bt pre was superior but am starting to see the merit to peel, however I don't like playing a hand this 'weak' oop with our stack size, I'd prefer to be deeper (maybe it's the cash player in me).
I also don't agree with the turn c/j but understand the thought process of the player saying "I thought it would look weak when I checked and then I can get hands to commit more chips than they should and then slam the door."
The reason I posted the hand is that when 3 different people talking about the hand had completely different things they would change about the hand then I wanted to see some more thoughts from you guys.
Not that shallow are we, we have 85bbs! Different if we have 20-30bbs it could be more awkward, but v deep for a comp stack at this stage. I agree with Pleno and thigh too fwiw Cool, well if it's approved by the dog!

Genuine hand from a friend, I know..... 6 max, we are BB Middle aged Chinese guy (don't know anything else) opens BTN to 8k over a limp (playing 40k) at 1200/2400, we find playing approx 200k, villain has similar stack. We 3bt pre to 22.5k, limped folds, btn calls. FLOP We cbet 25k, he calls TURN We check, he bets 33k, we shove for 120k he takes 30 seconds and calls. RIVER 5o Thoughts on pre, flop, turn? Plans for sizing, 3bt vs flat, Jxx boards not getting folds etc...??

Good effort JB, not many staking threads on here nowadays so nice to get a return for the punters!
Thanks! I'm considering doing a bigger 'UK' package... Similar to Eso's type things. Unsure how the market would respond. Might be better to approach people who I think would be interested privately. For any reading this that are interested I'm thinking the GPS/ UKIPT and £1k and under's that are going on during 2016.

Busted 12th. Made tp vs better tp and after his tentative call on the turn I figured I was almost always good.
Have Q10 vs KQ on 763Q4.
I bet turn and jam river after he checks back flop then tank calls turn.
Unlucky all, really felt like I'd grinded my way back.
Got some money to send back though.. so details by pm please.
You were unlucky not to get that through John. Nice run anyway. Thanks, It's one of those where I agree that in a vacuum after the event it looks 'bad' or at least 'not great' but at the time, in the moment.. I really believed he had worse and would hero if he did... I can't imagine its likely to be a consistently huge mistake, starting the hand with quite a short stack and all. Frustrating though... and when I went to get the money and saw that 12th was the last place before each one is a money jump.. I was just looking at all the payouts above (hadn't looked at any time during the tournament) and started fantatising about what could have been. I'll get to a final soon, I can feel it... Just hope I smash it when I do!

AT, 23o. Click to see full-size image. |
Has 23 otb. Peel pre Flop 723r Peel cbet Turn k He check calls a medium bet River 5 He check calls huge bet. Played a pot vs a guy I felt comfortable playing in a game that wasn't 3bt heavy where I have a lot of chips and felt confident I would be able to get paid big by the guy if I made a good hand or to make him fold his hand if needed...
