Notionally the employee needs to agree, sadly with only 5 weeks service the company can act with some impunity if it chooses to and has a lot of options to get this through.

The employee has been with the company a number of years and recently changed jobs hence a new contract, would this make any difference?
96  Community Forums / The Lounge / When is a contract not a contract? on: April 08, 2015, 07:48:27 PM
I'm guessing most people that work for a company are given a written contract ( at least that always used to be the case).

I'm of an age where I was bought up to believe that a written contract once signed by both parties was binding.

To my knowledge the wording in most company contracts for employees is the same, just things like salary, hours worked, notice of leaving, holidays may be different depending on the job or level of seniority.

So my question is how does a company stand having given a contract to an employee it has been signed by all parties and then 5 weeks later the company decide they have made a mistake on ONE particular part of the contract and want to issue an amended one to the employee?

Easily my favourite news story of the week.

PS Andy Hocking (52), a regular "beat bobby" in the town of Falmouth, Cornwall for 20 years, died of natural causes a week earlier. He was so well-known & popular that the locals organised a procession & gathering in the town in his honour. 6,000 people took part.

Things must be very different in Cornwall that the community held a policeman in such high regard.

Wonderful.

Andy was a traditional "bobby on the beat" always had a smile and time for a chat with everyone. His beat was the Main Street of Falmouth which encompassed the main shopping area so he was a real local face.
He lived in Penryn about 5 minutes from where I lived and on occasions I would pick him up early mornings as he walked his way to the Police station to start his day and I was on the way to the rank in Falmouth.

I was really shocked when I read of his passing on FB and then followed the unfolding story of the march that was organised in his memory and it really reminded me of the community spirit that exists in Falmouth pretty much the same in other parts of Cornwall as well.

I feel privalaged to have known Andy even if only in a small capacity, he will truly be missed by the people of Penryn and Famouth.

RIP Andy

Is money really THAT important that people would even have to consider the question?

UPDATE:

Tues 10th got the first flight from Guernsey to Southampton 07:15 and arrived Southampton hospital 08:45 waited in day room until 09:00 when one of the nurses came and done all the routine bits and pieces, height, weight, ECG, all the normal questions, cannula fitted and bloods taken.
2pm got moved to a bed and prepped for my op.

4.45pm Surgeon came to see me to tell me my op was cancelled due to other operations taking more time than expected. Promised me that I will be second on the list for Wednesday.

Wednesday 11th showered and prepped again by 7am and at 10:15 got taken to the theatre, 12pm all done and back on the ward all successful.
6.30pm now and I am up and about and all being well will fly home tomorrow.

The big difference this time thanks to Lisa and her kindness is that I have had internet connection which has been a massive help to Roxanne and I being able to keep in touch without racking up extortionate roaming charges.

THANK YOU LISA SO VERY MUCH

Totally missed this story, Good wind up lads letting the PC tossers think they had scored a victory and then sticking 2 fingers up to them

I thought they were just bringing back girls with their knockers out, but if they're now sticking 2 fingers up them then I think that's a bit far for a newspaper - keep that kind of stuff to specialist magazines.

Andrew T wins again 😄
