Hi there. Just wondering whether any of you would be interested in entering our WSOP Fantasy League. I know there used to be one on here but I don't see it now, so maybe you'd like to have a shot at ours. It's been going for quite a few years now, and we give daily reports on the action as well as the League developments. All the entry fees are paid out as prizes and there is added value as well, as Des Duffy at APAT sponsors us with APAT live and online seats for the top scorers. We accept late entries - missing points from early events should be recoverable when there are 88 tournaments though, if you get an entry in by 11pm, you won't miss out on any points. You can join us here https://tinyurl.com/APATWSOP-Updates.

Sec of State Blinken: "This is not Saigon." AP: "Kabul was gripped by panic. Helicopters raced overhead throughout the day to evacuate personnel from the U.S. Embassy. Smoke rose near the compound as staff destroyed important documents, and the American flag was lowered."

He’s a Senator from West Virginia, commonly regarded as the most conservative Democrat in the Senate. The Dems celebrate when they occasionally snag a seat in a right-wing State, but it brings problems, as well as inching them closer to a majority. The people who win such seats tend to be very much on the conservative side of the party, and have to remain there to retain their voters and hold their seats. Manchin holds many views that are more in line with Republicans than his own party and has supported Rep and Dem positions roughly evenly in Senate votes (I believe he has actually supported Trump slightly more often than he has opposed him). He has often been the only Democrat to vote with the Republicans, e.g. he was the only one to oppose same-sex marriage, to vote for Trump’s Supreme Court nominees or to support funding for the border wall. He is particularly keen on balanced Budgets. With an evenly-split Senate, Biden and the Dems will have control via the Veep’s deciding vote, but won’t be able to withstand any slippage at all. Manchin will suddenly be in a particularly powerful position, able to stop or tone down any measures he disagrees with, or force his pet projects to be added to Bills, under threat that he’ll vote with the Republicans. Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona is another “moderate" (i.e. conservative) Democrat Senator who will have similar opportunities.

Kelly Loeffler is the richest member of Congress, with a personal wealth of $500 million. Her husband is not only the Chairman of the New York Stock Exchange, but his company actually owns it, as well as many other exchanges, including LIFFE, Chicago and Singapore, and has just bought Ellie May for $11 billon. Kelly is standing for re-election as Senator for Georgia in January, and has a new ad out. Unfortunately, some unpleasant types are being unkind about it, just because it mentions that Kelly knows what it's like to wait for the next pay check. See her debating with 'Raphael Warnock' tonight. She seems like a peach. Just watched it - it wasn't great. She was so tightly schooled that it was almost pointless., giving more or less the same answer to every question. She kept reinforcing the points they had decided on over and over, irrespective of the question asked, but I think she probably called him 'radical liberal Raphael Warnock' too many times. Could imagine The Room Next Door going mental over it - "Okay, that's enough now. I know we said to repeat it, but not every sentence." At least she showed up though. Notice the difference between the Loeffler-Warnock and Perdue-Ossoff debates: Click to see full-size image. |
