Is it me, or does everyone of pensionable age think like this?

A little over 20 years ago I bought a used car and in the boot I found a bag of assorted cable-ties, including a sealed 100 pack of heavy duty ones.

The heavy duty ones were especially useful and over the years I used them to secure loads of things, a couple here, half a dozen there, until yesterday when, halfway through a job, they ran out.

New ones cost £5 for 20 or £15 for 100.

If I buy the £5 pack and die before 5 years have elapsed, I will have made a saving, same with pack two, but if I make 11 years I'm screwed.

What to do.... What to do....

Ha, this is my job.  Need an age to calc it for you, but pretty sure you get the 100 pack well into your 70s.  Non zero somebody makes use of them after you have gone, so the extra unlikely to be wasted.

Also have to factor in the added expense of driving to the shop for more if I run out mid-job, although that can be negated by cycling to the shop, which also has the added bonus of improving my chances of living longer.

Someone using them after I've gone, yes, good point.

I'm 65 kick up the arse away from 65 BTW.

Think you have 20 years left on average.  Cycling to the shop could make it longer.  Think 1 box of 100 should be fine, 2 is a discussion.

Hi Red,  I saw a "hack" to use cable ties to clean out bath plug holes by making diagonal cuts in them and then hooking out hair and gunk with them - worth considering if youre feeling under the weather and stocks are still high Smiley

Thanks Boo.

My mate asked me what's so special about Yorkshire.

We are no longer friends, I can't cope with that level of stupidity.

I happened to watch an episode of the motorbike show last night which might appeal to you - it did a good job of selling Yorksire as a biking destination - on a modern Norton on a route through Otley I think

6.20 Wolv. En Famille 9/2  - hoping to show improved performance on surface for which some encouragement from sire stats, trainer also has very good stats with visor (from a small sample)

2.55 Sandown small e/w bets on Delicate Kiss and Casement  16 and 22/1 currently

Nice to see some activity on the thread. I thought Night Colours in the 2.35 at Ffos Las was worth a look at 12-1, sire stats strong 2nd time out and profitable trainer/ jockey combo , plus trainer going thru a bit of  a purple patch at the moment

2.30 Lingfield I bet Tavener 7/1 who has been consistent of late and Horse, trainer, jockey have been an effective combination. I took a second look at Diamond Lady as this was one of the more popular bets on oddschecker at 20-1 ew 4 places with PP - Does look well handicapped on best form including over C&D and has a pretty good record after a break.

Think Sea Shack is a bit overpriced at 25/1 in the first at Chelmsford today based on two recent 2nd places (form of which seems to work out quite well) under today's apprentice who has a good record at Chelmsford

1.25 Lingfield Maybe Today 5/1 runs in first time cheekpieces for Simon Crisford.  His stats on the all weather in these circumstances are 7 runs 5 wins 271% ROI.

I’ve not had time to assess, but thought I would mention an alert I made for myself about  Play It Cool in 3.00 Pontefract being potentially well handicapped on basis of form in Ireland ?

Seems more straightforward to me.  You have the slip, surely they have to pay?  They can't void a bet if you know nothing about the voiding?  Obviously the chance of getting banned from Ladbrokes is high after any winning bet, but can't see how asking to be paid correctly changes that.

The bet had been voided, so there was no bet. The big question is, when the horse loses (which is will the vast majority) what is the % chance that a complete stranger to me, only knows me that I make reasonable sized bets on stuff quite a bit, gives me £500 back when he can pocket the money and I will be none the wiser. I'd throw my 14/1 slip away and feel very sad my horse didn't win.

Surely this is a rhetorical question, but anyway, they are clearly either planning to steal from you or their employer and don't belong in their job. Also won't have been the first time this has ever happened. I wouldn't hesitate to report this.

J Nevison a non runner

Will keep my eyes on the price of Jack Nevison in 5.05 at Yarmouth tomorrow. Hard to get too excited about one with his 1-22 record, but that win came when turned out again within 3 days and trainer has good value stats both at course and when running again within 1-7 days. Based on sire stats would expect him to act on soft if there's a lot of overnight rain, though admittedly there's little evidence of this in record to date.
Has been running consistently without winning, so maybe an ok e/w play depending on number of non-runners and eventual shape of race.

Hope it's not only Blonde money that's backed Aquarius into 7-1 !

Have just backed Aquarius 2.00 Nott at 18-1 getting 1/5 4 places with Sky. Has ideal conditions on breeding. Trainer / course / jockey combination very effective. Cant take too literally, but ran to a very similar level in 5f listed race at Newbury as today's fav On the Stage. Dropped back in trip and hood omitted, with De Sousa (to try and make all?) to overcome poor draw.
Also backed De Sousa on Aluqair in the first (not a fanboy betting him blind in every race , but there are probably worse strategies out there)
