It seems the Leave/Stay vote is on more of a knife-edge than the bookies odds suggest.

I think it was 1987 (may have been 1992) when all the polls suggested that the Tories couldn't possibly win the election; but when it came to actually casting votes, the public chose differently from what they told the pollsters. I'm feeling a similar vibe in this contest.

The last Ipsos-Mori poll (I think) indicates a very close thing, with the Leavers just shading it, but most of the polls have suggested a big Stay advantage. Obama's intervention may well have back-fired on the Stayers; was there ever a time that you wanted to do what a foreign politician (on his way out) told you to do? Even if it meant that you might have to get to the back of the queue when negotiating trade deals?

Last night's QT audience were illustrative of the fact that it's the 'ordinary people' who make the most persuasive points in these debates, as they can't be accused of politicking or toeing the line. I think it's dawning on a lot more people that unrestricted immigration - an additional 3m people by 2030 from the existing EU members - will only add further pressure to housing shortages, employment opportunities and an already nearly broken NHS. These legitimate concerns appear to be outweighing the alleged (since it's hard to prove the accuracy of forecasts, lol) economic benefits of staying in.

There also appears to be little argument over the fact that Leaving will allow us to take better control of our own borders and sovereignty. I believe that it's simply wrong to suggest that the UK govt will shred everything about the Bill of Human Rights for example; what is right will be retained, what is wrong will be ejected - it's why we have elected representatives in the House of Commons. The biggest weakness in the Leave campaign is it's paucity of big political hitters, but Mr & Mrs Joe Public seem to be finding their own voice.

It's a tricky one, as illustrated by the various responses on the thread so far.

Personally, I'd ask for the bill & leave at the first sighting of the mouse. There's nothing the staff can do, really: if they try to "tackle the situation" they only draw attention to the mouse, and lots of people will freak out. The alternative is doing nothing, but just hoping that the mouse picks up a treat and disappears back through the hole it came in by. Thus, there's 75% chance that the whole experience is mouse-blighted.

As far as action against the establishment is concerned, I'd be inclined to have a quiet word with the manager - saying something like "I understand that this can be a random mouse, so on this occasion I'm just bringing it to your attention. I plan to come back, coz I like your restaurant and the food, but if there's still a mouse problem next time I will have to consider notifying the relevant Health & Environment authority".

now that was good, though had to suspend disbelief a few times in the last 20 minutes!

True dat.

Found myself buttocks clenched and not breathing on several occasions. Still can't make my mind up about the DI Cotton acting performance - tour de force or miscast?

The bookmakers rarely get these things so dramatically wrong, so it seems that we are to remain.

What troubles me is that the vast majority of the speeches/statements/articles are being presented by the political classes, who by definition will not want to de-rail the EU gravy train. Since the "leavers" are broadly represented by a gaggle of misfits, those lacking political gravitas, they are losing on points in every round of this fight. It would have been a more interesting/fair contest if the politicians were banned from participating in the debate.

Yes they do. You could argue that they'd be more vulnerable at the back if Stones actually played. With Coleman, Jagielka and Oviedo injured & Mori banned, it's possible they'll field a couple from the academy.

Frankly, though, even with a fully fit squad, Everton haven't been playing with any confidence or stability at the back for several months. Seemingly incapable of locking up even a 2 goal lead.

I'm an Evertonian, and whilst I'd love to see them win tomorrow and I hate saying it, I just can't see them even making a game of it against an average Man Utd.

Haydock 1:40 Gunnery

It's not a great price (7/4) as it seems the info is out there about this one. Has a Dante entry, and has been training on extremely well. Spencer rides for Chapple-Hyam. Gosden's newcomers have been performing very well, however, and he has 2 in this race. Lord Napier has a Derby entry, and at 9/2 seems good value but Gosden's first string jockeys are at Leicester... Perhaps the only other danger is Haggas' inmate Daphne, but current prices suggest a lot of money is already down on Gunnery.

I'm on with a small win bet.

My missus likes to make selections based on the names of the horses. She used to look at the RPost write-ups, but concluded that it was generally "bollox", and only served to steer her away from choosing a nag with a nice name (quite often it was the grey one).

She is exceptionally good at finding winners (inc places at the larger 10-1+ prices).

If I was to start putting her selections up on TFT, can you advise the following:

1. What strikerate would she have to achieve before the tips would be taken seriously?
2. What's the number of races at which the strike-rate could be established?

She thinks I'm joking when I tell her that she has an unnatural talent, so I'm keen to demonstrate that this is serious business.

Marcella (ITV Tues nights) is well worth the watch. It has the feel of a Scandie cop drama, and it may well be an adaptation. What is for sure, is that it's a smartly written, very well acted and directed piece of "crime-noir".

The plot is pretty dense, so my only complaint is that you have to wait a whole week between episodes.

Lol - that's Realize in Lingfield's 2:10

Sorry folks, I'm very much a novice when it comes to using the posting functions here.

I'm sure all will be forgiven if this one comes in a winner, though.

Lingfield 2:10 - Realize

I've been waiting for this one to run again. Yes, this is a tougher ask, but last time out it finished with a tonne in hand, but not far behind, having been boxed in when ready to make his move.

Better jockey on top aswell, so I think it's a decent EW bet, currently 8/1 with Bet365.
