Interesting to note that the bookmaker (Bet365 in this interview) was not prepared to admit manipulation of the cashout facility.
Something to do with the fact that lots of punters will have followed the gambles & lost their money (other than the money back on the NR) perhaps? I suspect that this 'gamble' was a nice little earner for Bet365.

It's been far too long since I've spent a day at the races, so it's off to Sandown I go tomorrow with Mrs Suited.

Looks like a really good card, with the smaller fields making win bet selections the general order of the day, I reckon.

I'm inclined to give Bristol de Mai the nod in the 2:25 Grade 1 - only beaten once in its last four outings, and that was by Ar Mad at this track in December.

I'd be very interested in the views/suggestions from any or all of the shrewdies on here for this or any other race on the card.

Cheers & good luck with your money!

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

The Mad World of Donald Trump - 9.00pm
Presented by terrestrial's TV's perhaps most palatable political correspondent (Matt Frei), I'm trusting that this will be a relatively balanced piece of broadcast journalism. However, what isn't in doubt is the very real threat that one of the most powerful nations on earth is going to be in the hands of a nationalist racist by the end of the year. The Democrat option isn't very appealing either, but the thought of Trump in power makes me.... shit myself!

Saw Tarantino's The Hateful Eight this evening.

Whilst it was a return to a degree of form in terms of the quality of the dialogue, I'm not convinced that it was a script for the big screen. More like a 4 act play, it could easily have been done on stage (without the gore).

There's still ample self-indulgence in the production, but not quite so much as before: he didn't make an acting appearance (he's so bad) - but he does the unnecessary narration. Some of the scenes are totally superfluous - like the 'chain to the out-house' scene, and others are pointlessly repeated - the nailing of the door. It could easily have been 30 minutes shorter.

However, it's clear that the cast just love delivering his dialogue. It was great to see Kurt Russell and Bruce Dern give such excellent performances, whilst Samuel Jackson just keeps doing his Jules Winnfield (Pulp Fiction) that we all love (don't we?).

Then there's also 'spot the references' game you can play with all QT's films, which adds a diversion from the fact that the plotline's a little thin. He would do well to allow himself to be influenced a little more by The Coen Brothers rather than his own filmography.

So, are you sticking with DAVERON, or have your subsequent second thoughts led you to back an alternative EW? Looks like a trappy race to me.

Yes had small e/w Daveron.
Hi weetabix yes nov handicap chases are not normally the best betting contests, hence the - gulp  Smiley

I wouldnt be surprised at any outcome but imo Daveron has as much chance as the 4 shorter than him in the betting.

Very nice spot sir. Tnx for the tip!

People who walk around in tightly packed pubs, restaurants, public transport with backpacks that are jammed full of so much stuff that they must be moving home.

But NO! they're just going about their day-to-day business, merrily taking up valuable standing/moving space in these crowded places & bashing into unsuspecting members of the public without appearing to give a flying ****

I'd like to have a mini taser & give these bastards a surprise of my own...

Excellent reportage, Sicilian. Impressive efforts on the felt and on blackjack pits. Tampa's now on the radar.

Travel Tips Heads Up - eventually BA will catch on to your airport upgrade strategy, and at check-in they will say something like "Sorry Mr Sicilian, but there are no upgrades available on this flight". Then, when you eventually get on board, you'll spot half a dozen empty seats in Club/Premium Economy. You only get a few bites at the discount fare cherry, so enjoy it while it lasts Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley

2016 is turning into something of a graveyard year. I hope that there's some better news around the corner.

One of these Nights was one of the first 45's I ever bought. The Long Run was arguably their first super-group album - the one after Hotel California - so an album long-awaited in high anticipation. I still have the vinyl. The critics didn't like it very much, but iirc it was a commercial success. Frey wasn't my fav Eagle, but he was certainly a talent and has been taken far too young.

Shop assistants (etc) who ask "Are you OK?" when they should be saying "Can I help you?"

I know it's current common parlance, but ffs.

Vardy to never score a goal for England in his career and will never play for England again after 2016.

LOL - harsh!

Apparently they have full consent for drilling so a nice rise is expected for UKOG.
They have been granted permission by OGA to flow-test the well that's already been drilled. UKOG own a 20% share of this particular (Horse Hill) development. There won't be any impact on the sp until the results of the flow test. I hope you haven't invested too heavily in a share that you don't appear to know a great deal about. Never trust the word of a "mate/city type down the pub" without doing your own research.

Apologies - Tikay has already covered this in far better detail than me, and you've explained the rationale behind your £2k investment.

Just a "good luck" from me, in that case!

arbboy is correct for something like 350 days of the year. There's only real commercial value on Grand National Day, the Cheltenham Festival and a small handful of other classics that get a slightly wider audience than the punters. I suspect that it was a 'buy the whole package or sod off' prop from the Racing Authority (sorry, I forget the formal name).

Meanwhile, Whilst IMO ITV have botched pretty much every live sports event they've handled, I'm prepared to 'wait & see'.

Fact is that the ads are unavoidable (as on ), so what matters is the commentary team, and what the producers feel that the Great British racing audience wants to see in between races. I'm hopeful that it won't be fashion, but I'm not so hopeful that there won't be a return for McCririck.

Hi Rich, yes it is I (lol).

Thoroughly enjoyed the read of your diary/blog, and was "should I, shouldn't I?" about starting my own... But I've concluded that a) I don't play enough poker at the higher (more interesting) levels and b) Not enough ppl on here know me to make it interesting for a wider audience, and c) I'd be embarrassed by the tedium of my current life, whilst yearning for a return to my past.

You continue to be inspirational for anyone who wonders whether they can 'make the change' and/or 'just do it', taking on what appears to be the substantial challenges of both a new business start-up and emigrating at the same time as welcoming a 3rd child to the family. It's an over-used word, but in your case it's appropriate - awesome!

FWIW, if Max is having trouble with his r's, I think I might swerve the name Rory. There's something I like about Vince, though... It was my dad's name. More importantly, what room are you planning for his birth?

Have a fantastic 2016, Eso - here's hoping everything works out!
