When is the tyre pressure taken, when the cars are on the grid?

Yea was when cars were on the grid.

Hi Peter, i agree rules are rules. Why dont they just tell them when they check them they are too low?

It's up to the teams to ensure they're following the regulations, the FIA are there to police it. In the interests of fairness, penalties are given to anyone who breeches.

Surely one of the big reasons for this is safety, especially after what happened in Spa and the drivers reactions.

So if they(FiA) knew the pressures were down before the start/during the first few laps.  Should both cars have been shown a black & orange flag?

I believe (although am uncertain) that Pirelli took the measurements, the FIA will (probably) have only found out after the race when Pirelli submitted their technical report.

the FIA found out dring the race and told Merc, who told Lewis to speed up in anticipation of a time penalty

if the FIA find out during the race, and its a safety/technical infringement...then black flag him...but no

Saying that, when they found out, both cars would of been on different tyres, so I suppose perhaps at the time wouldn't of been a safety concern assuming that those tyres were within the limits when put on during the pit stop

Both Mercs have been called to the stewards for low tyre pressures.

Peter, any idea on what might have happened and what could happen if found to be true?

Hamilton's rear left tyre started the race 0.3 PSI below the limit imposed by Pirelli, Rosberg's rear left was 1.1 PSI below the target.

This is a clear technical infringement, I would expect both Mercedes to be disqualified here. That's the rumour in the paddock too.

How does one tyre drop below pressure and not the others?  Would this be down to human error or teams trying to fudge the numbers a touch?

It may have dropped below the target pressure, or it may have always been below pressure. Impossible to say at this stage. Almost certainly human error. I can't imagine a team would purposefully do something like this now-a-days, especially when they're dominating the championship like this.

Cheers Peter, will be an interesting couple of hours to see what the stewards do/say on the matter.

All this on a school night!

Any love for Rory for SPOTY, currently 100/1, if he can over come injury this week and win?

can we narrow it down please? (not sure i have the patience to do £2 each on 24 players to win £100 for the thread)

I like Koepka i must say. Going to break through in a big one soon (said the same about Lowry, backed him last few majors for no return as he was finishing Top 10 at chambers bay, not on him at Bridgestone. )

4 rounds under 70 at firestone to finish T6th, 68 on the final day at st andrews to finish top 10 , so has recent form and links form. hits it a long way.

but i am only a casual golf watcher. say what i see through an amateur's eyes rather than any edge at all.

Good friend of mine told me about Koepka back end of last year and how he will win something big pretty soon.  Has been backing him in all the majors etc.  Also said the same thing about Matsuyama, will win something big sooner rather than later.

Also rates JB Holmes, Danny Willet and another who I can't remember. Will find out later when i'm down the pub =)

Again just from an amateur's eyes.

Hi,

Firstly can I take the opportunity to apologise profusely for my interjection upon your blog - but I can't help but feel that it provides the perfect sample size coupled with a multiplicity of varying characters that I am sure to derive some benefit from asking a few questions of you and your intrepid following.

As I am sure most of you are all aware, it is with great regret and sadness that Raj has departed the shores of Grosvenor Luton to move on to bigger and better things. That being the case, the boss of my bosses boss has sent me from the dizzying heights of the capital back to my most beloved of venues (and my hometown) - Luton.

There are a few issues that are foremost evident to me and in short order I'll provide a list of these. I am curious, and I hope with your help, that I could brainstorm for a greater understanding of perceived problems, shortcomings etc at the Grosvenor. I'm given to understand that Genting has created a more stalwart following in the last year than was the case when I worked in Luton, and as I have been tasked with trying to restore some glory and prestige unto the Grosvenor once more, I'll be needing some insight and feedback - to which I am hoping you'll all oblige me (in a constructive manner, I hope!)

It's Understaffed, undergoing a refurbishment and so disruption internally and to parking, there's a distinct lack of 'experience' within the team. The tournament numbers appear to be declining - certainly against the figures I analysed compared to 2013 and 2014. That said, the cash game league has certainly worked and the cash games have grown year on year. So, tell me, in your own opinions - what's going wrong?

Have thought about this for a while.

Have to agree with everything you say.  I played wednesday last week and it started off as 4 tables 10 handed, one of which was self deal!  (I think someone may have not turned up, but, the fact that all of the tables were 10 handed showed that more staff was needed).  Once more staffed turned up they were used for the tournament and as a result, the cash players had to wait longer!

I also played Tuesday just gone and there was an incident of missing chips after one of the breaks.  A camera check was performed, but, quite obviously, there was no camera over the table in question (due to the refurb).  There then seemed to be a difference of opinion between the staff as to how to deal with it (ie, what to tell the bloke who thought he got done over).  Doesn't give the best impression if the staff can not agree between themselves!

I also spoke to a mate of mine who goes in around once every 2 weeks, depends on his shifts at work.  I showed him this post and asked for his opinions.  He told me the following:

There is no incentive with the tournys players like there is cash, the cash has been doing good.  There was an attempt to start a tourny league, but, in my opinion no one tried to push it.  They only mentioned it to regulars.  The only reason I knew about it was because Raj told my mate about it when I went with him as he was "perceived" as a regular.

It isn't a friendly place for new players, very much thrown into the baptism of fire and belittled by regs when they make an honest mistake.  Some of the behavior of these regs if they get unlucky towards these new players doesn't make it very comforting to them.  Not surprised that people turn up and play and then wait a long time before they return, if ever.

He doesn't play cash (played once, lost around £200 and has left it since), but, he did say that part of that was because he isn't a cash player.  The only reason he played that night was because of me.  If the 25/50 table was still running he would probably play that to get used to the differences, then move on to the bigger tables.  As it stands, very unlikely to play a 50/1 or 1/2 table.

Broad 7 wickets for 11 runs.  Best bowling figures ever?

In Tests, it must be the best by anyone, ever, surely?

Ahh, God bless Jim.

In more recent times Kumble got 10 wickets in match against Pakistan

http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/63829.html

Broad could easily surpass that, just needs 3 in the 2nd innings.

edited, ment to say 10 wickets in an innings.

Thoughts on England forfeiting an innings and just keeping going ?

Came here to ask if this is a) allowed, b) in the spirit of the game and c) advisable...

Broad seems to have pulled off a wonderful piece of magic. He's convinced the Aussie line up that the ball is moving round corners when all it's doing is nipping back of a length a bit. Fabulous.

It is allowed and has happened once in test cricket.  Back in 2000 when 3 days of a test were washed out with the South Africans.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Declaration_and_forfeiture#Test_cricket

Wouldn't say its advisable, just have to hope our batting line up can stay in the middle for more than 2 minutes at a time!

No problem, I'm happy to explain things about F1.

How good would the Mclarens be if they had a decent engine inside of them? & will they be able to compete next year, or, will they still be having issues?
