Thanks guys but looking likely to go for just Friday and drive home after the gig as the accommodation is pretty booked up and whats left is extortionate.

The idea only arose cos Im driving down from Edinburgh tomorrow and my good lady was going to train up and meet.

York's just too busy to try and arrange last minute accommodation without paying a very hefty premium.

Cheers
34  Community Forums / Betting Tips and Sport Discussion / York evening meeting and Kaiser Chiefs tomorrow on: July 21, 2016, 04:43:57 PM
Me and my good lady were planning a weekend away and York are having an evening meeting followed by the Kaiser Chiefs tomorrow.

Im sure it will be a busy night and just wondering if any blondes have been to one of these and apart from the racing any views on what kind of set up they have for bands.

Any tips and fancies also appreciated.

Cheers

Tighty, great work on putting the media reports and assorted stuff here.

Im most impressed by the level of knowledge on Blonde in general but topics like this shows a very learned & informed level of contributor.

My oh my what a predicament we are in - too many people with their own personal agendas (me included) voted for what in my opinion is something we as the electorate should not have been given the opportunity to do as its very clear the whole EU situation is so clouded.

My partners daughters best friend is a trainee nurse (non political) and voted leave as she genuinely believed the £350 million a week savings propaganda would be invested in the NHS - now she feels it was so naive of her and feels let down by politicians and would vote remain if given the chance again.

I feel very let down by our elected government who abdicated their responsibility in permitting this vote.

Im still so confused but am I wrong in thinking that whatever happens our government will eventually act in what they feel is the best for the country and we may never leave the EU?

If you walk alone, try downloading an audio book and listening to it while you perambulate. You may find you walk further than you realise.

Audio Book? I don't have Audio Book receiving equipment.

Luckily, my walk is in beautiful surroundings, all along the side of the Thames in one of it's most beautiful parts, with houseboats galore, geese, swans, mallards, water hen, coots, cormorants & all sorts. Saw a cormorant catch a fish yesterday. Not seen any herons though.

I play a little mental game, too, how many species of animals, birds & ducks I spot. 37 yesterday.

See a lot of elderly people walking their dogs, too. Elderly people are so cute, I always think.

Going back to books, this is my current read. It's quite hard work, but truly astonishing how critical mass works the same in nature, chemicals, human interaction, even traffic jams, all of which have something called "transitional state".

As in, say, gases liquify at certain temperatures, water turns to steam or ice & vice versa, &, in these things, hot always migrates to cold, never the opposite. Just basics really, but most interesting.

hmmmm elderly and dogs thinks that could be me  Smiley

hope you continue with your walks and along such a seeminlgy lovely place.

walking helps me enormously in my quest to gain fitness/lose weight

im lucky to benefit from alternating between fantastic beaches and fabulous countryside with such daily changes or observations to be seen

It's never really been an issue for me.

Most people throw things for their dogs to fetch because it's an easy way to exercise them but unless it's very well controlled, chasing that stick, ball or whatever very soon becomes an all consuming obsession.

How often have you seen a dog that should be enjoying his walk or his surroundings totally preoccupied with persuading its owner to throw the ball again?

I rarely throw things for my dogs to fetch and if I do it's on my terms. I decide when the game starts and when it ends, what should be used and what happens to it afterwards. You've seen Kizzy and me play with a toy, when I say "That's it, we're finished" she stops and loses all interest in the object.

I'm not saying there in anything inherently wrong with fetch games, but if you're not careful, your dog will want to do that to the exclusion of everything else.

Take drug dogs as an example. The the one and only reason they search for drugs is to get that ball. For them it's an all consuming, life ruling passion. Well fair enough, they're happy and they do a good job but personally, I don't like it.

The stick incident has been discussed on Radio2 Jeremy Vine show and all kinds of bad things reported.

We have a dalmation, Dylan, who isnt interested in retrieving but a working cocker spaniel, Maisie, who loves to retrieve and I only use a sturdy tennis ball as I had heard of the stick issues a few years ago.

As you say Tom dogs that love to retrieve can become obsessive and it does spoil a good walk for all of us when we walk with the ball for her so its only taken occasionally.

I did attempt the 'game over' rule with her as a puppy but obviously didnt do it properly as she will not take no for an answer now and jumps around when the ball is put in pocket.

Just back from a lovely walk with them - fine cold sunny day here in south notts - along part of the Grantham canal where they amble along - cocker doing her cocker thing and the dalmation well he just looks imperious and cant be arsed with all the sniffing his little mate does.

Finally into a meadow where Dylan gallops around and Maisie romping around after him - then both calming down and eating horse shit kindly left by the fields two inhabitants.

Ive read some of your dog tips on here before Tom from yourself and others - they are always good reading and informative - maybe a thread for dog owners and other pets?

Id love to start but think we need an expert to kick it off  Smiley

Had a walk around Croft quarry today. They've been digging this hole for about 300 years and it's pretty deep now.

It's hard to to see the scale on a photo but if you look carefully you can see the giant earth movers at the bottom.

That takes me back 20 off years when my brother in law rented a house opposite the quarry and i spent hours (it seems) absorbed by this huge hole
