76  Poker Forums / The Rail / Re: Re-Entry and Late Reg - Your Views please? on: September 01, 2015, 02:46:40 PM
I really appreciated it when late reg became part of the game as due to work commitments missed many games in my then local casino if my bum wasn't on the seat in time.

Even now when circumstances are against me I find that late reg gets me to a game I would have had to miss, so I want late reg to continue but be limited which in my opinion is to the 3rd level, which surely must enable 95% or more of the expected field to get to in time.

I also feel re-entries need to be looked at. An advice given to me which I still feel appropriate is to treat the re-entry tourney as a freeze out and play your A game from the first card dealt.

Again, the need to meet huge guarantees seems to be the main driver for re-entries and a huge guarantee grabs attention and gives someone a chance to make a wonderful return possibly life changing). As all things I do in life I want to be successful and approach each game with a positive outlook yet realistically my opportunity is limited due to luck and skill factor (not sure which way round there  :-).

Shows my age but doesn't seem many years ago that the then poker regs, messrs Camel, Trumper, Devilfish, Hendon Mob and more would travel the length and breadth of the land to play in a £100 main event which may have had 120 runners max, freezeout too.

I would love a regular monthly 2/3 day competition which would give a good payout say £100,000/150,000 guarantee and with a buy-in, re-entry structure that would enable DTD to meet the guarantees (failing to make guarantees is not good for DTD long term, it is a business after all) and hopefully satisfy the majority of punters (good luck with that).

Last minute decision to go to ladies day at Southwell with good lady and daughter in law. Any fancies most welcome ta.

montoyas son improved out of sight last season, would prefer to see it at newcastle but he goes well fresh and seems to find his best for the claimer on board today. Tough weight in a tough race (actually quite a nice race for offseason), but he only just does enough so may not have found the limit of him.

Just back lovely day out and girls picked 3 winners me none. Thanks for advice.

5.74% is some going with so many different views e.t.c

Well done all

I think it is the different views & opinions which are the key to it.

The maths boys get it in the neck from time to time from specialists in various sports, but both views are fine, they don't both have to be incorrect, & blending their efforts is why we do well. We need maths boys, & non-maths boys, combine their expertise & we are on a good thing.

I totally agree with TK - I love to read this thread and the views of all contributors.

The occasional (regular at times) fall out between some who cannot or do not want to understand the views of others makes me squirm.

Alas Im no maths expert (took 5 shots to pass my O level - poor teacher and algebra and stuff was so alien to me) and my views on racing which is the only sport I tend to have a bet on is so worthless compared to the masters on here.

I do love to attempt to read form but as there are so many other factors influencing the sport I dont bet big and its for fun - especially when I get to go to the races with my lovely partner.

Re the above and form I was at Carlisle races many years ago when the superb trainer Mary Reveley was running two horses - one a reasonably backed short priced fav and the other at /7s. By chance I had been watching the the horses in the pre parade ring and noticed the stable handlers of the two horses collecting money from others - not a great deal of money it seemed but as racing staff were not paid huge sums it looked significant to them. I followed the one with the money to the bookies and she bet the not so fancied runner - which was too good for me to ignore - and it duly won. Obviously the fav was one the shrewdies felt was best form wise but maybe just maybe the stable staff felt their other horse was good enough and better value. i know the reverse is true and stable information can be so wrong but hey ho thats life.

Anyway my ramblings over and if brave enough I will try to put some of my thoughts down for perusal.

Good luck to the thread for the future and hope all who view and participate respect the opinions of others.

Cheers

Thanks guys - my info showed last year as 2.2% but maybe Im getting it from wrong (online) sources.

Hows things Keith - hope all well - Im wanting to get to York this Ebor meeting but also fancy the the Sky tourney at DTD - what a dilemma - not sure where Id do most losses Grin

Hope you decide on York.

I'll be there Weds - Friday (Saturday is far too busy). See you there if you make the wisest choice!

Been chatting with my good lady and we might go on the Wed and if poss stay over Tues night if we can find decent place to stay.

Be lucky to find anything in town this close to the date. And if you do it will cost a fortune.

Better off trying Harrogate or similar.

Anywhere to have a reasonable night out - last summer we went to Pickering and Whitby for a midweek break followed by Beverley races - what a great little course.

Just seen that Ripon races are on the Tues pm - Harrogate would be ideal for both im sure.

To find the technical boring answer :

http://ons.gov.uk/ons/rel/cpi/consumer-price-indices/june-2015/stb-cpi-june-2015.html#tab-Retail-Prices-Index--RPI--and-RPIJ

Jan 2014 the RPI index was 252.6
June 2015 it was 258.9

Which I think makes 2.5% but Jan and Feb were weird months as it went -0.3% then +0.6% for each of those months.

Then of course there is the difference between RPI, RPIJ, RPIX, CPI etc.

Thanks Neeko - thats where Im getting confused RPI, RPIJ etc ...
