In no particular order,
Man walking on the moon Organ transplants / medical advancements Fall of Berlin wall and subsequent freedom of eastern block countries The overcoming of apartheid and rise of a multi racial South Africa under Nelson Mandela. 9/11 Falklands Princess Diana Advancements in computing/internet ( I remember saying to a teacher in my first computer studies lesson that this would never catch on, as I could only get the screen to show Syntax error) Varied ways in which natural disasters remind us that we are puny in the face of real power ( Eruption of Mt St Helens, Tsunami, Droughts, Tornados etc) Lockerbie bombing Probably lots that I am unable to recall

Some incredibly deserving Olympian/Paralympians on the list. But in the end there can be only one. When you win wimbledon, the olympics and finish the year world number one. All on the back of last year almost single handedly winning the Davis Cup. Murray has to be the winner. Almost burst out laughing at the inclusion of Gareth Bale and Jamie Vardy. I suppose Leicester City will win the team award. For me the Ladies Olympic hockey team would be a great choice but I fully expect the football mad country to go with Leicester.

The MLB team I follow is the Texas Rangers. I started watching baseball back in the 1990s, I learned the rules from watching baseball movies, Sky did a week of movies one year to promote the World Series, which, they had secured the rights for. I think the New York Yankees beat the Atlanta Braves in what was the first in Joe Torre's winning run. It was a great series to start watching baseball as the Yankees lost the first two at home but came back to win , I think they won the next four straight. It was the beginning of an exceptional team that dominated for many years, if only I had chosen them....... No, who wants to follow the winning team ,who has more money than anyone else?, not me. I did not have a favourite team for many years, I just loved the game, the complexities of it was what kept me tuning in. Channel five took on the coverage and had a live game every week with Johny Gould and, in its time, three different Americans based in England who could explain and expand on anything that needed clarifying. It was also great fun to watch the banter between them. Still I did not have a specific team until 2008/9. Pompey were, at that time, about to implode with eye watering debts and had gone into administration, so , when watching a game involving the Rangers it seemed I had been sent a"message" from on high when the commentator said they were going into administration, but wealthy new owners were being sought to move the franchise on. This has not been such a bad pick, Two World Series appearances, the only disappointment being we lost both, the second of which we were only one strike away from victory. I still await my first live game but hope to visit both the Jets and the Rangers during 2017.

Fairly new to the forum, so please forgive me if this has been covered before, but I was wondering how people chose their teams to follow. I would guess that football and cricket teams in this country are, in the main, restricted to where you were born, or , who your family supported, but when it comes to US sports teams, that probably is not the case. For my part the NFL team I follow goes back to the 1980s and the channel four coverage of the game. The highlights show always had a main game of the week, where you got to see more of the plays rather than just the scoring of TD's and FG's. One week my brother and I were watching one such game and it was brilliant, going back and forth between the two teams , lots of cut and thrust, and in the final seconds of the game, an amazing one handed catch by the wide receiver resulting in a game winning touchdown. The commentator then uttered the fateful words "that catch made all the more incredible by the fact that he is legally blind in one eye " Well, my brother looked at me , and at the same time we both shouted " that's the team we will support from now on" Sadly for us we had chosen........... the New York Jets. At least we didn't choose the then abysmal New England Patriots, I mean, they will never win anything. Thirty years on and we are still waiting for another amazing moment, let alone season. Still, once chosen you have to stay loyal, don't you? So how did you choose yours? Nick

It was watching YOU, and others, on the Sky poker TV channel on and off for several years that stoked my interest in the game and finally got me to take the plunge and take part back in 2013. I had watched the WPT and WSOP on other channels, but can honestly say that, watching the interaction between you and the other hosts, and the obvious fun and enjoyment you got from each other and the game itself, was the main reason why I joined the site next door. It remains,to this day, the only site I play my poker on, and in my opinion, Is very lucky to have you and would be shooting itself in the foot if it did not keep you on board for the foreseeable future. I look forward to playing some PLO8 tonight and getting your input on all things CHRISTMAS.

Hi All, Thanks for the welcome, and the trip down memory lane to some of the night life venues of yesteryear here in Pompey. I have been following the site from the shadows for a while, thought I should sign up and join in to what looks like some good fun and banter. Although I am just a recreational player, I was a little bit disappointed to be called a "bingo" player next door tonight. Especially as I won that particular leg of the FOSP PLO8 league (thinly veiled brag) I aim to contribute to various blogs and hopefully make some new friends here. Nick
