One line
'And in a darkened underpass I thought 'Oh God, my chance has come at last'
Another
'I love you yes I do, and I know that you love a me too'
One more for luck
'And if my day keeps going this way I just might, break yr fxxxxxx face tonight'

In America, you can go to places like this http://www.wayside.org/ and get a New England Clam Chowder and lobster pie. Now the taste is good, y'understand, but, here's the rub (that's shakespearo to you my droogs), the dollar got so toy town you can get two helpings if'n yr a bit hungry and it costs about 53 english pennies. And when people say 'djeet ?' you can reply, ' I ate heartily, but now I require a bevvy' O Say ! can you see, .......

Another great thread, one of my ongoing marvels in life is how incredibly young people seem fit to burst with a creativity bordering on the magical - would definitely go along with a few of the albums mentioned here. Stone Roses (unbelievably great debut) would probably top my list in terms of putting something out which, however derivative it may be, was like nothing I'd ever heard before - how can you, at the age they were then, be so fookin coolio and brilliant.
Pearl Jam's Ten the same, The Strokes - Is this it more recently. Though I find it hard to enjoy Coldplay now I think Parachutes was a pretty amazing first effort.
Betraying my 'era' I would add albums like Never Mind the Bollocks, eponymous first albums by the Ramones and the Clash (eponymous, not 'arf), Rattus Norvegicus, The Stranglers and Inflammable Material by Stiff Little Fingers.

How do you pick one song as you're all time great ? I guess some people have an all time fav in the way some people know they are going to be train drivers from a young age.
I can think of a zillion equal No 1's (nb Stairway to Heaven wouldn't make my top 1000)
For pure pop perfection how about 'Train in Vain'
Not 'arf
Happy new Year and lang may yr lum's reek

Yr right that it's not been made big mention of but it was mentioned a couple of times - the nature of the thread may mean that people silently assent to the view that the amount given versus amount taken is not appropriate.
So I give my tuppenceworth. There are bigger issues maybe, but they've been well covered in what's been written so far

I find it odd that people would begrudge someone £155 per week (even with employers ex's and other ex's on top) whatever the % of the total budget that represented.
If wages = money given to good causes then, since it's not a zero sum game we can say that money given to good causes is greater than zero - this is good. There may be a line where this makes no sense, ie taking 1 million to raise 1 million is probably slightly unjustifiable, taking 10k to give 10k to good causes is 10k up on someone sitting around doing nothing and nothing being raised.
All the points about transparency and clarity are fair and like Satcom, I've met all the people at G4L a few times so am very hopeful this will be resolved - and I hope my confidence that it will be is well placed.
But getting antsy about a wage of £155 per week is just a bit silly

Insert Quote Quote from: nirvana on Today at 08:44:43 pm This weekend was watching a conspiracy film on youtube called 9/11 Mysteries - no great hypothesis on the why (though some suggestions made) but a very clear case for the collapse of the towers not being a structural failure based on the planes hitting.
I found the whole thing interesting and the details surrounding why on earth Tower 7 collapsed later in the day to be very compelling arguments for the fact that the buildings fell as result of controlled demolitions.
I know it's a bit unrelated but it was on my mind. Anyway, I'm now convinced the WTC collpasing was not only as a result of planes hitting it.

Gotta say I'd like to think I'd have the courage to intervene but until your there you never quite know. Did see a lad get a brick hurled at him at Leamington Spa one evening, fair clonked him on the head. A couple of his girlfriends were standing over his prostrate body wailing while a large ish gang of youths stood in the nearby park from where they'd thrown it.
Just approaching the situation at some pace, in the spirit I used to approach a fight in progress in a bar was enough to have the gang move on. Got me a lot of brownie points with my girl and a serious telling off too so I kinda identify with where your family are coming from smithy.
Brings to mind the case of my brother -exact details not needed but suffice to say one of our younger cousins - a girl - rang him to say a chap had caused her some problems (quite serious), he in a Sonny from the Godfather manner, was round there in fairly short order to dish out something of a pasting.
Upshot was attempted murder charge, downgraded eventually to a bodily harm conviction and 6 months inside. The guy he battered was very much 'known' to the police but no let off due to that.
It's a very unjust world in many ways - I would never advocate violence as a solution but man you gotta understand how these things happen.
Gotta say I'm getting reactionary in my dotage and the American model where a home invader can be met with any kind of brutality and you won't be charged is very attractive to me.
Anyway, good luck smithy, hope the matter all goes away

I just like them giggling like schoolgirls at their own jokes, makes me laugh anyway. Not too bothered about the fill in material about who did what, when and why - after all, as bolt says, I can see that for myself.
Same reason why I prefer fanzone when watching footie on Sky rather than too clever/dull by far commentators.
